Wouldn't these things be as useless as a WRX except you can't carry people around in it?

IIRC the 22B wasn't sold in Australia
Around a track a new STi is quicker than the F6. PCOTY got a 1:42.39 in the STi while the F6 posted a 1:43.32 |

I'd like to see how they go driving them. Close ratios and manual. You have to be quick on your toes whilst concentrating on chasing someone down.

yes i envy police officers in a way but dont in others, is there really a need for such cars when pursuits are called off way before the speedlimiters on base model falcons and commodores, fair enough and xr8 or a ss but surely thats all they need

There is NO WAY that an Elise would be used as a police car. It would bankrupt NSW with workers comps claims. Traffic coppers spend their whole day driving and getting in and out of the car constantly. Drive one you will understand..... |

22B - 0-100km/h: 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile: 13.6 seconds F6 Typhoon - 0-100km/h: 4.9 seconds, 1/4 mile: 12.7 seconds AWD jump... then just gets run down to almost a full second difference in a 1/4 mile... and that's quite alot. Quote:
14.4 seconds on there, which is quite a bit better then 'a tad under 15 seconds,' as you know, 6 tenths in a drag race is slaughter. And if you google around you can find better times then that... 14.2, 14.1, 14.0, 13.9s etc. The thing weighs 675kg with 89.5kW. That's 132.5kW/tonne power/weight. A current model WRX, which is proven to do 14 dead/high 13s, has 119.4kW/tonne. A BA XR6 Turbo, also proven to run similar times, has 139.9kW/tonne. Its got the power to do that time with its weight. Just needs the driver in it to do it....

For future reference police cars are not weekend warrior dragmobiles. I have had a play with our shiny red Typhoons. They are fitted with standard dunlop sportmax tyres, not slicks and are absolutely factory standard and are run on 95ron not 98ron (BP premium not ultimate). Apart from the fact that they carry two big fat (old) HP coppers (the children don't get to play with the good toys) and they are fitted with a lot of gizmos (decader, two radios, all the computer crap, all the safety junk in the boot, aux kit etc.) They are not THAT quick but then again neither were the monaros or SSs. They also have a VERY non aerodynamic disco on the roof which make a hell of a noise and buffet about above 130 or so. There is no car yet that goes faster than the radio......... |

I went in a new WRX the other night and was honestly not impressed. There only pulling 15`s anyway. XR6 Trubo or XR8 would eat it. Maybe not off the mark but after that cya later

There's also been a 12.94 @ 108. And with those sort of trap speeds... a perfect run (launch, shifts, weather etc) could theoretically yeild better then 12.5. The F6 is a much faster car then most people believe.

I dare say it was a mockup for a 1 off promo deal. For starters the electrics wouldn't support all the gear. Not to mention it would get stuck on the first speed hump.

Not to mention that pretty much any cop wearing all that crap around his waist probably wouldn't fit in the seat anyway, let alone without it :

Maybe a bit off topic. But I was in a "meeting" with a copper the other day. He was saying they hate fords due to soft suspension. I think he was referring to the BA XT variety. They argue about who gets stuck with the fords at shift change.
These guys have all kinds of crap. Fully marked volvo and barina cop cars to name a couple of oddities. They only use them for community events like going to schools. Probably what the lotus was for. i.e. on loan and tarted up for an event. |
