ok, here's the answers. the pipe sits about an inch above the base plate to help prevent sucking in water in wet weather. If rain is extreme I can always turn the pipe around and fit factory air filter. the breather pipe coming out of the rocker cover will be shortened and have a small oil breather filter attached. the base for the shaker will have a drain pipe so its not to fill with water. Basically I have been planning this for a while now and have thought of every solution for every possible problem with this setup. I will be getting a K & N filter for it.
costs... shaker top, bonnet ring, and seal $150 delivered air cleaner assembly $40 pipe $100 quotes on this pipe ranged from $70 - $200 This is my CAI setup for my series 1 standard bonnet, I will eventually change bonnets hopefully to a series 2 with a bulge which will have a different setup due to more space to play with. |

also I've checked it all out, I'll have about half an inch clearance between the rocker cover and the base.

I think he has a little bit of induction tubing, but when I say a little bit, I mean it.

Thanks JC..You should have tried living with him when he was coming up with the design : He lived breathed and ate it for about 6 months before he came up with the final product there were 3 prototypes before he finally settled on the design.. He still sits staring into space ( mainly at my parents place lol) trying to think of ways to improve it

I have had some PM's about my shaker setup so thought I would put a bit of a blurb up. Originally I came up with this design due to a lack of funds and a lust for power. In saying that, the setup is not something I want to make money from. I would like nothing more than to share the design with everybody at no cost. I have kept the setup a bit of a secret ( especially the mounting points) since I built it because I didn't want a commercial identity to get a hold of it and profit from my design. Also 12mths ago the whole concept of a shaker on a I6 didn't go down so well when I posted pics in these forums, so I hid in the shadows for awhile, but now shakers seem to be in vogue. I built and installed the same setup on a friends EL xr6 (vegabass). How-ever he has sold his car so now the time is right. I have been told that I'm crazy for not selling off the design but all in all it came from humble beginnings in the shed of a backyard wannabe mechanic with no fancy tools. The design is simple and with basic tools is easy to construct. It should only take a day once you know how. If anyone would like I'll set-up a workshop build and post all the details, including measurements and a list of components that are required as well as a guide on how to do it. I'm sure someone with more skills and knowledge could improve on the design and do a much better job overall, but as I say, I'm not a mechanic and lack the correct tools to make it look pretty ( the other benefit of the flame blanket is that it covers up all the joins ). At this point in time it does the job and does it well for a minimal amount of money and effort. I'm pretty busy on weekends with the XR6 & XR8 club of QLD, but local (nrth bris) and shoot me a pm you could pop over and I will pull apart the shaker for you and you could see it for yourself, and if you have any probs I'm only a pm away.
I have to admit I am very proud of my set-up and can't think of a better compliment than others building one for themselves and wacking it on. Cheers Rob

Do you know if it has done anything to increase HP??? Seems to be a fair bit more bonnet height on a I6 than V8.
I would love to have the abilty to do those things. On my 8 I reckon it would be good to cut and shut the manifold so the TB was facing forward, Then have a shaker on it. Might have to do something like this on a V8 to get shaker working right http://www.trueblueford.com/BryansELfalconXR8v3.html Last edited by ntguy; 13-02-2007 at 09:05 PM. |

haven't seen that car before, very interesting, quite similar in design, looks as though it sits quite high though.

This is about 9 - 10 mths old
Yes it dose give more power at WOT . and for me I noticed it from about 3,000rpm upwards. There is a induction noise but I really think it has changed to exhaust sound as well .. it is a lot deeper and gives a crackle when you back off at high revs. A good mod and cost me about 20bux as I built it myself.
