Best way from WA to Sydney?

I did the trip recently (east to west) in my new TE50. With 2 drivers its easy! and quite enjoyable. So long as you dont drive after sunset you'll be right so far as roos go. however around balladonia (just inside the WA border) there are a few of the bastards.

I especially liked dropping back to third to overtake! unessesary but fun...

Great trip, we (I) drove until about 10pm each night and the old bloke did the early shift. (5am)

Roos are everywhere so be careful.

Drive it. Have never driven it myself but have rode it in 2 and a half days easy enough. Did Phillip Island to Perth in 48 hours last year on a bike too. One piece of advice, do not to do the Broken Hill to Cobar stretch at night, between Wilcannia and Cobar is the worst stretch for wildlife I have ever come across, most truckies do not even drive that bit at night.

if you drive do not stop in wilcannia trust me chances are you wont get a motel in cobar either but do not stop in wilkilya.....

Agreed, and within 5 seconds of driving in to Wilcannia you will know why you wouldn't want to stop there.

I agree drive it across. I was going to buy an EL xr8 from the east coast and drive it back to Perth, then I saw the light and bought an AU instead. i was looking forward to the drive - haven't done it but everyone says its a great drive...
a word of warning if you change your mind and put it on the train... when i moved to perth my car came with me on the indian pacific (it was too full with all my stuff to drive it across). anyway that was years ago and i had a white XF Ghia - after that train trip the car was covered in tiny rust specks (off the tracks i assume) that i never really managed to polish out. A friend of mine did the same trip with his NL and before he put it on the train, he covered it in wax and polished it off when it got to the other end - never heard if that trick worked though...

Oh really, why don,t you ask the guy from the W.A. Tickford club who had his TS50 raped between Perth & Melbourne. Or the guy with EL GT who had grease & red dust all through his car when It arrived in Melbourne (me) Then spent 3 days trying to get the safety boot marks out of his bonnet. Just remember the train gets split @ Adelaide, so who knows who drives your car or how far they drive it? Oh by the way, unless your car is in a container & it gets hailed on, bad luck buddy that was at your risk!!! I have still not repaired the front & rear bumpers that were damaged during the loading/unloading procedures

As someone who has driven from Perth to Sydney, I would assume that one of the key reasons not to drive is the potential for damage from animal life and the fact that you put 5,000km on your car in a week, rather than 6 months.

I drove Sydney - WA - Sydney in 1974 , there was still 270 "miles" of dirt in those days , but was a great trip . Don't miss the chance of a great drive , you might never get the chance again . If you keep the car for 5 years that only averages 1,000 k's a year , bugger all .

I went through Bathurst , Cowra , West Wyalong , Hay .... Adelaide over & back .

Roos have really become an issue driving lately. I read in a book someplace that there are more roos in Australia now than when Captain Cook first landed. Dont ask me how they know, but we never heard of Captain Cook having problems with roo's did we?? :hihi:

Roos are only mainly a problem at night. You keep your eyes peeled during the day and you'll be right. I have done it plenty on motorbikes and roos are much more a worry on them as impact with one is infinitely more messy than one bouncing off a car. And I mean new panels are still available for these things right if he was to get unlucky? Not as if it is an old collectible where all the panels and stuff are unobtainable. In all likelihood he would have a great drive and ejoy the hell out of it. I reckon driving across the big bottom paddock is certainly a must do for every Aussie at some stage of their lives. It is quite scenic and pretty I reckon. Up in Alice I reckon it might be a bit different though :-> The main danger on the Perth to Sydney route is that Wilcannia to Cobar stretch.

Last time I drove over, Balladonia closed at around 10pm, and we had to go to the pub at Eucla, find the servo owner, and get them to turn the pumps on to buy juice. Might have had to pay a fee too, can't remember.

i'd drive it (if it was mine) but if you want to transport it freight going east (if you ring found) is cheep coz lots goes east empty coz were an import state (wa) but ship by truck , less people got hands on/in and around ya car , and if by train n they couple the car carages up neer the locos then you get all the sh#t on the cars (also the unburnt diesle crap n all the other oil the loco dribbles)and they dont let you transport crap in the car (extra stuff) i work transport and got a mate driver thats been with the company 27 years and he just had a statsman trucked over from the east (we wernt the cheepest) he got it (with heeps of stuff in the boot) done by kti transport maybe try them , oh and get transport insurance if truck/training it no matter how you get to do it

im doing a simular trip in june. But im flying from perth to sydney and then driving a xr6t back to perth. Should be fun and boring. Im just geting a car bra to stop the stone chips

Cars full of stone chips look poxy too.

I had my front bar painted and in one club run it was full of chips. After the 3rd coat of paint at $400 a time I opted for a Car Bra so now when I get to car shows etc and take it off my car doesn't look POXY :

Only while they are young and fresh. When they have been knocked around for a while and start to get imperfections in them and things starts to droop
with gravity the Bra tends to keep things in better nick and looking more pleasant to the eye

Yeah, but you'd have to get from SA to Perth first!
I've done Perth to Sydney in 40 hours non stop, and pretty much doing the speed limit too. Only fuel and food/toilet stops.
