Attention motor enthusiasts and supporters….

Would like to have your attention for a matter of great concern regarding the matter which has been ongoing an bought to everyone’s attention in last month or more concerning the street drags (mainly in the south eastern suburbs).I must start by saying my brother (Rick) who had posted a letter on this site a few days ago concerning the matter of the street drags at noble park, Sandown an surrounding areas.
This matter has to be dealt with in a responsible manner First of all we must have support from the drag racers, car clubs, automotive industries( bursons, autobarn, repco, super cheap etc) government councils the community etc, Most of all, Us that love our sport .
Now this could be the way it could turn out example…
!.Lets don’t do nothing an they could cancel the drags easternats summernats springnats, calder, heathcote etc an then what will happen what we will have people doing burnouts an drags everywhere maybe down your street IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT people like us need somewhere to do this type of sport( Sport well some people wouldn’t call it that WHY cause we aint the V8 supercars what a crock of ****) we are professionals in are own type of racing!
2.Lets do something about this matter an support yourselves an people like us that love are sport so much an get people like the council, police, an the community on our side an get rid off the hoons .
Why should us that do this for a living or hobby an are the real deal get in trouble cause a few idiots make trouble when they shouldn’t be! We should be going to councils, police etc fighting for our sport.
Do something support the sport, call people who are connected, fill out pertitions, flyers, done knock, mechanic shops, performance shop, local mp etc then people like ourselves an people of the streets can have places to do it legal, Yes you will get the morons who will still go out there stuff them let the cops catch them ok.
We don’t have to stand for this ,we don’t have to be blamed for that its not our fault!!!
Look I no that you go to these events an still the cops put roadworthy’s an book us an everything an that’s not right either the police shouldn’t be allowed to do such things
In my opinion its nothing but bully tactics but at the same time don’t give up!!
We are going to keep fighting on this matter an get something done not going to sit here an take it anymore this is our sport now lets do something, So lets get together an make it change so our fathers, mothers, us our children an our grand children can still keep doing something that they grew up with an love so much even its 10% or half the people off the streets its something isn’t it!
WHERE ONE WILL GO ANOTHER WILL FOLLOW!!!

the whole idea, in the mind of the community, is a no-go zone. the public perceive the thought of enjoying burnouts, the smell of rubber, the sounds of engines at high rev's, as something abominable, something underground. the community needs to be educated that it really is ok to enjoy this sort of stuff. the community needs to be shown that if it's happening on a track, it will lessen the chances of occurence in their suburbs.

years and years ago, skateboarders terrorised residents. there was an uproar. a far sighted person decided skateparks would be the go. residents were mostly happy, and their popularity has continued to this day.

think small, just for the moment, but keep the big picture in mind. the biggest hurdle is getting community acceptance.

That's what a burnout pad is for. Which would be totally separate to a drag strip ;)

Anybody on here work close to the council?
Can we not organise representatives from various clubs and forums to conduct a meeting with the council, police etc ???? and try to push this issue as far as we possibly can??

I am almost 100% certain that if we were to put this idea into motion we would have the local community backing us

May I make a suggestion? The human race makes character and personality judgements initially, rightly or wrongly, on how people are dressed. Can you imagine what a huge impact it would make if everyone involved in this 'meet and greet' were wearing suits and/or business attire? .......

Hope you guys don't have the same bullshit promises laid on you by the pollies as we have here in Canberra. They've been promising a drag strip for years and we've still got nothing. One of my mates has been busting his **** working with government but getting nowhere.

I once knew a lot of people who raced at at the dandy drags when they were around greens road. I got down there myself a few times. It was massive, at a guesstimate well over 200 cars down the sides of the road on one of the bigger nights.

A night would start out with a feed down at the peir, then a few hours at dandy drags until the cops busted it up or it got boring, a cruise down to portsea, grab some beers on the way back to franga, and hit the **** until the sun came up.

There is a certain attraction to street racing. Just roll up and race. No scruitineering or spending beer money on gate fees. That appealed to me a lot when I was younger and had no money, the risks were a very distant concern. Will a strip solve street racing completely, no. Being older, richer, and wiser hasn't changed the fact that I won't sit in a queue of 200 cars all Saturday night for two runs. Personally I think if you walk into council with the "lower road toll" argument council will see straight through it.

In my mind the only chance you have with council is to make the drag strip politically correct. Make them think they'll get a vote out of it. Start up a club called the Cranbourne Drag Racing Association. Then involve the council and run a number of high profile local charity events through it getting yourself as much coverage from the local press as possible.

Guys/Gals I was talking to Rick (my close mate) extensively about this issue today and he is very keen to pursue it untill a suitable place in the South East is found but preferably Sandown as its well known, Close to Set Up already, and facilitiys etc etc

He is going to some local council meetings in the coming weeks, the first being next Tuesday 13th March. Whilst I cannot make this meeting I plan on helping as much as I can and have already given him some ideas of how to overcome likely problems at this meeting and maybe, therefore, gain support...

Hes asked me to place his Mob no here for persons, who can assist him with some sensible ideas, or would be prepared to help with partissions as they are likely to be necessary...I agree, its more than time the Sth East had a proper strip and car enthuisists have a reasonable place to go. It maybe now or never so we should stick together and offer him support while the council and Police + Public maybe prepared to listen & help after the recent trouble. If you can help or support please contact RICK 0438 173018

Just one last thing...To try to gain council support it would probably be an Alchohol Fee, Burnout Free (Save the one before your run), Di**H**D free event, with as reasonable prices as possible for everyone. It would not be an Summernats/ Easternats style ****up at the expense of a car lovers day out!! I love a drink but I go to the pub etc etc

Cheers

Carn"t wait for the day when we have a place to "RACE" on this side of town
For me I find it hard to work out why it has to be just on a friday night , the issue of getting it all together (as stated by others)for a couple of passes at Calder barely makes it worth while for the cost .. the popularity of heathcote is you can play all day with nearly as much track time as you can handle. I would imangine if Calder threw its gates open on at saturday or arvo/night meet the crowds would come with plenty of time for all, while Sandown would be perfect it wont Happen being a X Spingvale resident I know the Crapp that goes on there all to well .. I feel it will take a investment from the private sector to get anything worth while to happen ... Here"s a Idea I often wonderd about how hard would it be to run a 1/4 mile track at Phillip island be it monthly or weekly ? , if it ran all day or day/night would you patronise the event ? well while my ramblings may not help things in the short term I can only offer limited service or time if required I will be willing to help ware I can to make this happen feel free to P.M me or send me a E mail at Whoosha220@dodo.com.au if there is something I can do ..
my 2cents ..Regards ,,whoosha

As a local resident I read a similar article in the Berwick News and the article seemed to indicate that all systems were go if a suitable site was found! The site is such a big issue mainly because of the noise in relation to residential housing! Sandown will not be suitable as stated because residents have a big whinge just cos of Easternats! That's why they are looking at the Tooradin area as its mainly paddocks and wont affect residential housing! As having tried to push local council here years ago for a mere skatepark which we were promised, it took 6 years to finally be built and it was a piece of crap! I only hope the local council doesn't mess us all around on the issue!

Alot of us are off to the skid pan DECA day on Sunday.
I would put up a thread in the drag racing forum and Vic events forum, see if you can boost the numbers.
Also is this 1/8 mile OR 1/4 mile?

i dont no touch much about it but i no its track, runway that the drags are going to be on is 800metres long so i guess it would be 1/4 of a mile.

All ive heard that it will be held this sunday night an if all goes well it will be turned into a drag venue to cater for all......
