My 2 toy cars and daily runner (Ghia) are insured with Shannons.

Last year I had the misfortune of someone jumping out and into my Ghia at a roundabout. No forms to fill in, no fuss, repairer of my choice, arranged for a time for the assessor to have a look at it, and the repairer then went straight to work on it. The assessor was a very friendly guy also, very helpful. When I picked up the car, nothing to sign or pay. Really impressed how smooth it was. Totally recommend them.

I can also understand why they dont insure in some cases. Keeps my premiums down.

I recently got Shannons to insure my XR6T, all mods covered and in the end I'm a very happy customer. Considering their price totalled all of 50c more a month than my previous insurance (with CGU) and Shannons will cover all my mods. It's great!

The only thing I will say, is I had called Shannons about 3 times and essentially got fobbed off, and I saw them at All Ford Day and got hum and harred at, but it wasn't until I got to their office and talked to someone face to face, and discussed the matter that we came to an agreement and it all worked out in the end!

I'm in the process of redoing my insurance again for the Fairmont, have done all the usual calling round etc, call Shannons and was just told that I wasn't enthusiastic enough for the car! That my car did not fall into the area that they were prepared to look at. Any suggestions a the momemt it looks like I'll have to stick with ING, but their agreed value is the best of anyones at least.

Shannons are great , weve got the car , house and my model collection insured with them and they even add your mods on to the price of the car so you can't complain about that, and there isnt to many insurance companys out there that put money back into Motoring events like they do.

I’ve been insured with them for ages. Started young and first got it at 22 (I was in a car club). I’ve been off and on, but with them for the last few years.

They now call my car a medium modified car now that it has had minor suspension work done on it. They were still prepared to insure it as mildly modified with SS brake lines, R-spec tyres and non-original wheels when I drove it to track days.

Once when my smick newly re-insured car was written off (mechanic who was a friend did it) they investigated it and delayed payment for a few months – it must’ve seemed like a real suspicious case to them.

Well after living in Sydney having car with ING and then moving to brisbane going to Suncorp then moving to another brisbane suburb 10 weeks ago my premuim went up $9 a month wtf.

Spoke to shannons at cleveland show well i guess after watching commercials im starting to think what their criteria is into insuring "enthuists" cars as very misleading.

havent got call back yet and mine is more than a standard grandpas car?

There's an easy fix if you haven't had a call back, call them yourself.

Im looking at the implications of getting an import car in a few months time and was worried about the insurance on something like that so,

I rang up Just Cars first. They were helpful, went thru all the rigmarole of telling them my details. 30yo, Rating 1, blah blah blah, and what I thought was that I was going to get a good price. They proceed to tell me on a 24k car, unlimited mods, etc to expect to pay $1153 premium, $1100 on accident excess and a $1800 excess if the car is stolen!!!. wtf?

Anyway, I rang up shannons straight away, told them the exact same details, and they were reluctant at first as they wanted me to be an enthusiast of some kind, so I said to them, I am with fordforums, I go to this and that car show, street meet, Im with a club etc, and they then said, "oh thats ok then", we can insure you for your import car for 24k agreed value, $788 premium and $400 excess no matter what happens, australian standards alarm/immobiliser, unlimited mods, your choice of repairer and no extra to pay premium monthly. I was over the moon with this quote! (didnt express it on the phone) But was stoked at the difference in quotes.

The best part is that the quote lasts for 12months with shannons. Just Cars quotes only lasts for 2 weeks. Shannons were the only ones to send me the written quote and all the paperwork for when Im ready.

When the time comes, I will be choosing shannons straight away!

Shannons FTW

I have my Mustang insured with them and I think they are great.

Had a windscreen replaced after a rock fell out the back of a tipper and it was just a phone call, the service could not have been better.

The other experience I had with them was at a car show in Canberra last year, at which time there rep was wandering the paddock, stopped and look at my car, asked if they insured it and what they were covering it for. After telling him he said in his opinion was worth $5k more and said when he got back to the office he would bump up the value for no extra premium. I thought yeah yeah, but to my suprise I got a confirmation letter about a week latter.

Note to self, must find bored rep at show.

and the name of the rep was? i need my newer car insured with them very soon. as well the XY when its done in around 3-4months. had a quote over a year ago as a daily driver on the XY. agreed value at $15000 premium was $1800. not bad for an 18yr old with 6months behind the wheel. new premium will be limited use vehicle now.

Same with me. I was at the Motor Show last year and filled out a form to get a quote to insure my Ghia and they said that they will call me soon and send me info but I never heard from them.
The next time was at the Holden and Ford show and saw the stand so I went over and asked for a quote to insure my Statesman and again, filled out a form....didn't hear from them.
I assume that I didn't fill all of their 'criteria' but at least a phone call would have been nice to explain why they wouldn't insure me.

With all this "I love Shannons" talk can someone explain what their criteria is for acceptance? I rang them about insuring my BF 1 F6 and they didn't want to know.
(no mods, rating one). Did they want me to say I take it for a thrash around the track every second day? I can't figure them out.

Tell them that you are a member of AFF and that you get involved in events.

One thing I have noticed about Shannons is that each state is run almost like a separate business. I requested a quote by providing written details to Shannons, whilst at Wagga, All Ford Day, and never heard back from them. But in Victoria they got wind of me being interested in a quote, no pun intended, and provided me with one over the phone. Have never looked back!

Agreed. They only wanted to know me if i was an enthusiast at events, car shows, and other car related events. If your an everyday 'joe' who doesnt/couldnt be bothered do those things, then dont bother. Thats who they like to deal with, is enthusiasts.

Shannons is the best by a long way, i had both my Ducatis and my Aprilia with them. When i bought my BA GT everyone i rang would put me a rating 5 as it was my first car, rating 1 for 11 years on a bike didnt come into it but not Shannons they gave me a rating 2 for a year. I got to rating 1 crashed the GT no questions asked car fixed now i have the XR8 & XR GT with them. the best thing about Shannons is there agreed value and willingness to up the value of your car as you spend money doing mods. the XR8 was insured for $33,000 when i bought it now its $42,000 and they will up it some more when the Tornado body kit goes on. As for the XR GT they insured it for double what i paid for it and as i restore it back to original they will up the value accordingly. This is what i call service for which i have no problem handing over $800 a year as a 33yr old knowing that all my mods like the 19"Brabus rims,Pursuit interior, koni suspension,Advance/X-Force exhaust,Flash tuner, alloy hard top with central locking,Genuine(new) Tornado body kit are covered and so is the XR GT stored away. they also dont have any issues when your car gets impounded just let them know and they say thanks for informing us and being honest he had a bit of a laugh about it and that was it, what more do you want from a insurance company

Iv always insured with shannons, mainly old school fords XW's etc and now with my BA.
Always found them to be extremely helpfull in every way,and there payment plans make things easy aswell, they dont seem to be fazed by my mods either.
Been with them now for around 4-5 years and havnt got a bad word to say about them.
Id highly recomend them to anyone.

Between the XR8, house and contents, i saved over $500 a few weeks ago with Shannons. They don't charge extra fee's if you decide to pay by month either. Low stress transaction.

I was told they wouldnt insure me, (20 y.o, 10ks from town, locked in shed overnight)
For the XD, 302c, gas, carb,16's,lowered,extractors, exaust, interior etc...
Unless i attended 10 club meetings a year, and am in at least 3 car clubs...
Told them no thanks, and went straight to just car... Not happy shannons!

Shannons are no good for me. I did a quote on the net and it is over double what I am paying now with Western QBE. And with mods its 3 times as much as what I am currently paying. So um no Shannons for me. So far I am very impressed with Western QBE. I was previously with the NRMA but I got jack of them and shopped around. QBE were cheaper and had more inclusions so I went with them. I now have 2 cars and the house and contents through them. I guess it just goes to show that you just need to shop around when it comes to insurance. And dont forget to check what is included, not just the premium.
