Hah yeah okay I probably deserve that.

It went in the bin unfortunately but so did the bread, I've never had 'fresh' bread taste so much like freezerburn. You win some, you lose some!

I'd love a compost but I rent and I move regularly enough that I can't really accumulate things like normal people do. The more stuff you buy, the more time and money it takes to pack it/relocate it/unpack it/get set up again when you move. But if I ever end up with my own place, a compost will be one of the first things on the list.

Had one of their pasties. Again.
Also bought a fresh seeded vienna loaf - the interior of my ute smells awesome and I'm hungry again.

when I first started work ... corner grocery store that sets my age, Thursday arvo it was my job/ pleasure to head over to the bakery and load up the Austin A40 delivery van with fresh hot bread.
Thought there was nothing sweeter smelling in the world, then I was introduced to the smell of a lonely wife on heat.

Camping down in the second valley region of SA this weekend and decided to sample some baked goodness from the Yankalilla bakery.

No pictures sorry. Bakery itself has kind of managed to keep the country town bakery feel. A very large selection to choose from made it almost impossible to pick just one thing.

In the end I had a round bee sting, wife had a gluten free brownie (she's coeliac), and daughters had a apple turnover and vanilla royale I think they called it. Essentially a vanilla slice with creamier custard and chocolate coated top.

All items given a big thumbs up and consumed rapidly except the eldest did say the chocolate top on the vanilla royale was a bit overpowering.

Still, a very good place to stop if you are in the region.

They are legit ridiculously busy almost everyday. I see lines of people outside. Forget getting a table on a weekend too.

I guess I'm not as fussy as some. Tasted like vanilla slice custard. Went down very well.

I’ll have to visit this bakery at some stage. I like the judging criteria, especially “the pastry must snap at the bite” so that the contents don’t squirt out of the sides. Hard pastry can ruin an otherwise good vanilla slice.

Thought I would try another new bakery while I'm working out at Mt Meg NW of benalla.
The Cake Bakers Daughter only opened end of last year but has already a bit of a following doing great sit in brekkys and lunches.
The sausage rolls are 10 inches long and packed with yum. Super crispy flaky peppered pastry with what tastes like finely grated peas and carrot along with a herb seasoning.
Only thought of a picture when I was half way through it.

Bought a really wobbly custard tart that just melted in my mouth. Well the pieces did.(It was a Leesa type experience as the old dirt road out to work wobblied it to pieces)
Evidence was not pictured.

Decided on a chicken, mayo, tomato and rocket on their sour dough bread as the lunch.

A little pricy but what's good food worth these days. Probably be back tomorrow.

Epic lamb shank pie n mash n broccolini. Red chutney was scraped off prior to consumption.

Stopped at the bp at Port Wakefield over Easter weekend. On the way out and on the way back. Not really on topic for this thread but the food in there was very popular. The chicken nuggets were just massive chunks of crumbed chicken.

Haven't been there for a while but cafe de vilis is popular as ever.

I went to the Down South Bakery Cafe at Lonsdale SA today.

It doesn't look much from the outside but I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness of the place, food offerings and friendly staff. It will definitely get more of my attention. A must for all Southern Adelaide people.

It was very early in the day and I just wanted a coffee. Their coffee was really nice. I asked a local guy who was waiting on a large breakfast order and he said that his work crew also bought their goods at lunch time every day without disappointment. I'll post more on this place.
