Have decided to throw some more money down the drain and put some love back into my old BA XT.
Purchased a Fairmont Ghia interior with white leather seats and am nearly done with install. Since 8AM this morning, it's all I've been doing. LOL It's looking really nice though. From disgusting taxi look to just complete class. Will post pics when done... only rear door trims left. |

Wheel alignment and two new 19in Hankook Evo 2 tyres on our XR50T. Be interested to see how they go compared to the Invos. Seem OK so far.
Drove it to work (I usually take the AU wagon), washed it and drove it home again! |

reckon i might do the same to the old ute today xw-baxr6t
things a bit dirty from dump run yesterday served me well in the last couple of days, so might treat her to a good scrub and maybe even a quick polish see what she comes up like

Not too bad actually, probably took me about 90 minutes or so and that was fairly slow as I didn't want to make any mistakes cutting the roof lining. There is a guide in tech documents I followed to do it which is really well written:

Cleaned off some sort of plastic coating that had wrapped around my exhaust pipe tip, and had melted / baked on (like how on earth does this happen? ).
Used a razor blade and metal polish - came up alright. |

Installed new speakers and sound deadener into the front doors. An audio installer I ain't, and a hacksaw and no more gaps were used, but the end result sounds fantastic and looks perfectly stock from inside the car. Win!

It is dangerous to assume... Had it worked out, or so i thought. New master cylinder in the XW... and then, omg, 2 rear wheel cylinders and a new length of brake line ( was seized in the back of brake cylinder ) later !!

Had four new ball joints fitted about a year ago & new tyres too.(18"-40 series)
A couple of weeks ago I noticed some uneven tread wear on the front pas' side, on the inner tread. I figured it was a camber problem. Did some research today (both online & via my service manual) only to realize you can't adjust the camber on the AU's unless you have a camber/castor adjuster kit installed. Turns out my AU2 does. It's had a Tickford suspension fitted some time ago before I bought it. As the camber wasn't altered when the ball joints were fitted I figured it was just a wheel alignment issue causing the uneven wear. I gave it a tweak & swapped the front rims around so I can keep an eye on it from now on. While I was under there I had a go at loosening the o2 censor as I'm going to buy a new one soon. I heard these things can be a bugger to remove but would you believe I actually had to tighten it a little!!! Using a sinker on some fishing line I made a plumbob of sorts to see if the camber is ok,(dangled from the wheel arch/guard outer edge) turns out the pas' side is kicked out slightly further than the drivers ('bout 3.5mm). To be rectified soon. Good news is no oil leaks in sight (doesn't hurt to check whilst under the car) & at the end of the day my steering wheel is straight & wheels tracking perfectly. |

Hey "What car", you know 'cause it's a coupe you can fit some leg pipes too!!!
I'd ditch the wheel covers & tint the glass though. Make it look baaaad! |

Flivverford- You can indeed do the camber and caster on all of them. Its done by fittting shims in between the UCA mounts and body.
A camber kit consists of UCA mounts with longer studs to fit more shims. There are also ratcheting types available. I just swapped out the soggy Grandpa suspension in mine for a set of SLs, shimmed up enough with the standard mounts to get the camber to almost zero. With an AU you should get away without one unless its REAL low in the front. |

I Just hit two panels on mine with Megs UC on a hand pad. Sprayed some spiders on it. Then the motivation ran out. Might finish the polish over the next week. No rush!

I pulled my first successful little burnout today in the GT (on a private road fully supervised)
Last burnout I attempted was at the drag strip and it felt like the whole rear end was going to rip out. With the new Bilsteins the axle hop has disappeared. Next time at the drags I won't drive around the water like a paranoid granny and I can get some grip. |
