People can improve themselves if there is determination, opportunity and ability.

You might be unlikely to vociferously decry the work of a vaccine researcher if they carried a similar burden.

Quite aside from that, it’s interesting to note the bulk of conventional media interest in the UK as a nation presently, is focused on their implied international trajectory post-Brexit. Not the pronounced rise in diagnosed cases of CV or the return of some basic strictures aimed at slowing this.

We're going to lose a lot of the restaurants on Lygon Street in Carlton it seems, such a shame, that strip is a cultural icon of Melbourne.

$120K PA rent, plus all their other fees, to have 4 people sitting outside after they can open?

Anyway back on topic - apparently another planned protest for today according to rumors?

42 new cases for Australia and 6 deaths sees the CMR rise to 3.018% and ctive cases drop to 2,475. NSW recorded 8 cases and Queensland 3 with the balance in Victoria. The Victorian State 14 day moving average is now 70.21 with metro at 61.6 and regional at 4.3 but still with 7 unknown. As pointed out yesterday that puts our CMR above the USA for the first time although the cases (3,192 v 148) and deaths (96.5 v 4.4) per 100k are both very different.

2 new cases and zero deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.337% and active cases fall to 108.

The UK had 3,497 new cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore those figures.

Just over 47.5k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,094 deaths sees CMR fall to 2.974% and active cases drop to 38.0% with the raw numbers rising again. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences.

Other notable points:
Global new cases recorded a record high of 310,692;

The USA completes 91M, India 55M, Russia 40M, UAE 8M, Canada 6M and Azerbaijan 1M tests;

Europe records a new daily high of 41,055 new cases;

Hungary (916), Costa Rica (1,485) and the United Arab Emirates (1,007) - the highest since mid-May, all recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive day.

From someone who has now lost a couple of close friends to CV (not in Australia) I find these protests really hard to understand. What exactly is it that they are hoping to achieve? Do they think the CHO is going to change his mind and relax the rules? Do they think the Premier is going to back down and change course? It seems like its nothing more than just an excuse to run amok. Freedom they say? Ask the traders and shoppers at Vic market whether they felt freedom this morning.

If you don't like how the gov has responded, lobby your MP. And if your MP isn't listening or taking your side....maybe time to consider whether your views are in line with the broader public.

We are talking 2-3 months of sacrifice to save lives. We are not being welded to our house. You can still go out for shopping and exercise. Bloody hell the streets are full of kids riding their bikes. Parents are having a kick to kick with their kids on ovals. Stop watching rubbish news. I isolated from news and social media for a couple of days, and boy oh boy does it make a difference. Its not all doom and gloom.

Ps. Not playing down those who are financially impacted.

To late Andrews has crumbled, it was bound to happen...

"Victorian Premier Dan Andrews says he can no longer ignore the sheer volume and veracity of research that has been compiled by the state’s conspiracy theorists, and has consequently decided to end all lockdown restrictions immediately.

Saying that Victoria would skip stages 3, 2 and 1 and open up entirely, Mr Andrews said he now accepted that the ‘dandemic’ had never actually existed."

I don't have a problem with that. She is refusing to co operate with them.
If I refused to produce a licence and not tell the cops my name at a checkpoint I reckon I would be asked to step out of the car to.

Maybe they are like those Happy Birthday apples Woolworth sell.
(the ones kept in their warehouse for a year)

Almost looks like they're goosestepping if that one on the left picked up the pace.

It's time VIC police started firing rubber bullets at these imbeciles. Personally, I'd hope they were real bullets, but some might see that as too aggressive.

Another option, since these imbeciles are scared of a bit of water, VIC Police should bring out the water cannons. Turn the pressure right up so a bit of skin peel results. Aim for the faces I say.

I'm not sure what the relevance of Queen Victoria Market had today - seems to be an odd location for a protest

Maybe in the aisles of Safeway next?

Maccas drive thru?

Melbourne Airport Viewing Area?

Monash Freeway?

Chadstone Shopping Centre?

Where will it be next

Way to go coppers. Really doing your job there, being ****s.
Of course they're doing their job there. In what way weren't they doing their job?
Serves her right. When you're instructed to do something.... like moving your phone because its current position is not legal... you do what you're told without being a twat about it.

Hopefully she's learned her lesson that you can't stomp your feet, refuse to follow instruction, refuse to provide your details and still have a pleasant day. And that if you carry on and don't cooperate then you're going to get man-handled.

Where are the people who jump up and down about revenue collecting and police not giving people warnings instead? This chick got a warning, your phone is in the wrong spot please move it, and did she? **** no, she felt complete indignation that someone would have the nerve to ask her to do something and so she got all uppity about it. They can't win either way, this is why people get on-the-spot fines and police aren't willing to give an inch, because when they do they get this sort of crap. This chick is ruining it for the rest of the community.

I would have thought vehicle checkpoint to enforce health and safety is a perfectly legitimate reason to provide name and address. Why oh why didn't she just give it? Don't tell me its about "freedom" again. Unless she wanted 15 mins of fame. Well she got it. Unfortunately for her it escalated quickly. Who drives around with front facing camera on, unless you were planning to stitch someone up and put it on social media.

Cops have to deal with these people who try to make them look stupid, day in day out.

You know whats disturbing? Cops illegally strip searching kids at music festivals got less scrutiny in the media than cops enforcing health and safety restrictions. Think about that for a minute.

This is all it is about. Attention seeking imbeciles wanting their 15min of fame. They run home with their footage to post it online so they feel "appreciated" and "loved" by the like minded imbeciles.

This.

I've heard some say that if they want people to act like adults, then they should be treated like adults.

I don't agree.

I think it is much more accurate when reversed. If you act like a child, you will be treated like a child. If you want to be treated like an adult, then act like an adult.

Its just not that difficult. If you're pulled over by the police, just do as asked. very simple.
