Commodore followed strong design cues from the Opel models. The VE is the first to have gone away from that, so we can generally exclude Commodore from this comparison. The Falcon does have a family resemblance by design and even this has been stated by Ford themselves over the years in those same reviews that you guys call "opinions" upon each successive model. Have a read of some press releases from the early-mid-late 1990s. http://www.caradvice.com.au/299492/2...ed-in-fb-post/ Quote:

Well that takes Ugly to an all new level! The spoiler and tips chop are an improvement. Is the awesome I6 NA staying with the same power outputs?

I'm really liking what Ford have managed to do with the new Falcon. I can't wait to see this in the flesh. Its a step up in my opinion.

Yeah, that ute looks a bit like it's Vixen to me. Then again, it might be a smidgen brighter (and thus an entirely different colour).

Dont get me wrong, i do like the new rear from what i see so far in the spyshot and believe it is a really good refresh.
But.....i feel that if they kept the groove (where the licence plate is) inverted (like the escort concept) it would of looked better Or, if they extended the boot light and inverted the groove (which would make room for the badge under the boot light) it would look good also I like it, just not a fan of that licence plate groove, guess they have to keep the design consistent with the mondeo. i will have to see it in the flesh or the press photo, i might change my mind Last edited by Hawkeye84; 30-07-2014 at 12:57 AM. |

I have to say I like what they've done. And I can see and know why they have to make it flow into the global style, but it's lost it's identity to me.
It's cool because it's like this, or looks like that etc. not just cool in isolation. That's what I want to buy, something that's just cool and can't be mistaken for anything else. That's all but gone now and I'm not a fan of that. Having said that, new XR8 will be a corker of a car. I'm sure it will be highly acclaimed and infinitely popular, sure to leave a lasting legacy....

The rear end looks classy rather than tough, the GT spoiler doesn't work on it as is. IMO it would need other tweaks. Hopefully the xr backend is a bit tougher.

I think some should chill, when you see the rear next to another car you quickly realise it looks low and wide, which isn't evident in the spy shot. It looks wider (and is wider) then a Jag XF. Just wait for a rear three quarter shot.

IMO a good design shouldnt need some random people on a forum to spruce it up.
That G6E looks like puss, when the lower section is colored, and you put on a spoiler and some quad tips then yeah it looks alright...but that is only for one model, what about the rest of the range... Mind you its not coming from a very high point previous...this lower section is just as bad.. Its cheap with little detail, compared to the front that is well thought out.

Not so much sprucing up the design, but sprucing up the photo...given that its not a official ford photo (its not CGI lol)...the poor lighting spread, focus, angle (cant even see the ground to get the proportions) isn't real flattering...

Of course the XR rear is still not known, to keep the pot boiling for a little bit longer. That all said, like you, I would like to see some official pictures. I don't want to see yet another CGI however, as Ford always do a woeful job of that. I think they should just get some nice studio shots out there of the existing cars and views they have revealed. Personally I always felt the FGII was not an improvement over the FG, but really at best a sideways step. The goggle eyed headlights in FGII looked particularly bad and never grew on me. The interior update looked what it was, a quick, cheap update. This final Falcon makeover is quite classy and a nice way to finish the design and the car. They did a good job in my opinion. I'm not expecting any wholesale changes inside the car, but if they have at least upgraded the trim inside and use better quality leather and plastics, they will finish Falcon on a good note and that's really all any Ford fan can ask of Ford at this point. I actually think some at Ford are paying a lot more respect to Falcon in this final form, then perhaps some on here are prepared to acknowledge. Yes it has to tie into Mustang, but they also look like the people who worked on this car, took it a lot further then just doing their jobs and getting it out there. It looks like they wanted this to be a good Falcon to see the brand off. Last edited by DanielXR8; 30-07-2014 at 08:10 AM. |

Has it got anything to do with the cars just not being 100% ready , as in a few minor cosmetic bits waiting on suppliers etc as to why the use CGI's?
Granted everything would be signed off by now (long ago) perhaps there are a couple of things still pending deliver to the factory if builds are not until December. FG sales are done, not much to gain there, so no harm in showing FH but they may only have CGI to show the full thing?

Waiting eagerly to see it in real life in it’s glory, only then will I pass my full judgement on it.
But so far, I’m happy. |

CGI's are used mainly because it is far cheaper to produce the imagery required as every component is already modelled in CAD and available to the studio. With the click of a button they can hide minor details that they don't want to reveal at this stage of release.
You can be sure that if real photographs were used, many would still critique the shots and complain that they weren't up to standard etc. |

Not my cup of tea from what I'm seeing so far. Although I can respect what they've done, I'll happily stick with one of the last GT's
