Another tip: they went on to make a car that dominated NASCAR Racing for a number of years.

The maker dominated NASCAR in the early 50's.

Hudson? Worth doing a google on what he got up to!

Really too small a pic & testing boundaries of obscurity

Yes Hudson but as that's a bit like saying Ford model and year (+ or - a year will do).

Not obscure for oldies like me; they were still plenty on the Oz roads in the 50's.

and there are pics of similar caps on the net. Closer image would reveal too much printed give away detail.

If you look at all the clues knowing it's a Hudson a google search wold give it to you.

The most common, if not only Hudson model, that Holden Bros built bodies for.

A lot of the Holden history sites list this as seperate brand to Hudson but it was Hudson's cheaper line.

As you all seem to have stopped guessing I will give it to Outback Ute. It was from a 1928 Holden bodied Hudson Essex Super Six. The Boyce Motor Meter thermometer was fitted to them on the top of the radiator as they used a thermo syphon cooling (no water pump so relied on the hot water rising principle to keep the water circulating).

Note in the period between 1918 and 1932 Essex made 1,331,107 cars, and in addition to the Holden bodied ones, others were imported as fully assembled cars from the US. So they were not really obscure in their era and there still seems to be plenty around in oz.

I meant obscure in being a 1920's radiator cap - not having a go but I wouldn't say it is a particularly distinctive design, sort of like putting up a 1970's dog dish hubcap and asking which car it came off!

Sorry I will have to pass, can't upload my pic at the moment.

Not with all the additional clues I gave. But perhaps the generation gap is a factor -those of my vintage or older would more likely associate the standard Boyce thermometer with the Essex and it's renowned thermo syphon cooling overheating issues.

Also sold in large numbers in the US under a different name by what was then one of the US Big Three and was popular as the basis for early pro stock drag cars that evolved into funny cars.
