Daily: Hahn superdry or carlsberg

Every now and then a carton of James squires golden ale. Love that stuff!

Just brewed the perfect beer (for me anyway)

A Coopers Pale Ale, in Grolsh bottles (Upped my drinking over a period of time to get the bottles! I'm not a huge drinker). Damn perfect! Even got one of those 'Magnum' Grolsh 1.5L or so bottles

Came out clear, very Coopers-like taste, and best of all, 30c a stubby. Hence my joke on another thread wondering if I could power a Falcon on beer.

Overall very empowering. And tasty. Next up, when bottle space allows, will do a run of Guiness-like stout for winter. ("There's a meal in every glass")

They're 700ml bottles...not the best beer ever (better than most swill they sell though), but fact is that they're limited, and once they're gone, they're gone!

1999 Vintage...that has to be ripping...

Bringing this one back up. I tried some of the recommended beers here and I really really liked:

Erdinger Weissbrau Weißbier 500mL
Little creatures Bright ale
Coopers pale ale in the 750mL tall glass
Hoegaarden White Beer

All nice beers for the warmer days this summer. Recommend more folks!

Current fave is the Weihenstephan Hefeweizen, crisp but with a lovely smooth finish.
500ml bottles are a bonus!!
Local brewer Feral also do a Feral White which is brilliant on tap, just come over to WA to enjoy some!

Must try the weihnstephan next time im in dan murphys, i've tried the schofferhofer hefeweizen and i thought that was ok.

Last night tried "Hop Thief" by James Squire on tap at the woolshed docklands and that has a nice smell, and goes down well with a noticable bitter aftertaste, I enjoyed that one.

I've recently been drinking a lot of Stella Atois since it's so cheap for a slab (I see it for $37 or $38 a carton) for some reason. Anyone got an explanation? Also as to why a carton of New is $45 at the same shop?!

Peroni Leggera is a very tastey beer too for 3.5% - anyone I know who has one seems to say the same thing

Tried a Miller Chill last night, its a low carb beer with a twist of natural lime. I enjoyed it. It was refreshing, but I would at most only drink a 6 pack of these though as the lime becomes overpowering for me.

Arguably the bast Australian Lager on the market at the moment is Stone & Wood Pale Lager. Another easy drinking very tasty lager is James Squire Sundown Australian Lager.

As for imports I cant get enough Geuze Boon http://www.boon.be/nl The geuze mariage parfait is also simply outstanding. Life is too short to drink crap beer.

For a local I'll always go for the VB...love my Boonies something fierce.

If I'm after an international, Becks usually wins but for $29 a slab from Aldi, Schloss Pilsner is excellent.

I just tried the Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier and that was YUM. Thanks for mentioning this one. $5.89 for 500mL or Dan Murphys has it on special 3 bottles for $15.

After reading through this thread, its pretty obvious that alot buy based on price.... Fair enough. But you blokes really should try and extend yourselves and buy some real beer. Australia is full of micro breweries that dont answer to share holders and actually brew real beer. The difference is stark.... Especially when you have to get up the next day. Give it a go guys/gals we are past the days of the big brewery domination days.

I will add after doing a Euro trip , none of the imports taste anything like they do over there , loved bitburger and still drink it here , ottinger is my daily drink though, very easy to drink full strength and at 27 a carton easy on the pocket ....got to say some euro beers are to die for . No preservatives makes a huge difference to the hangover effects .I estimated that I drank well over 300 different brews over there and only found a handful that I wouldn't have a second one ...Aussie wise I love all squires and xxxx , superdry , but always do the boutique beer where any decent bottleo is .., just grab a dozen mixed and hook in ..

Put a Coopers Real Ale in the tub yesterday. My first brew for 2013. Used dextrose. We call it Gosh Ale, as straight, it's a real nice beer. Most Coopers brew well at warm temps.
p.s. I agree, alot of the gear we get in the cans over here are nothing like the brews you can get in Europe. Besides, check the can, alot of them say at the end of the day, brewed in Aust, i.e. not authentic. Just grog in a fancy can.

Those large international brews are just the VB equivalent...oh, but it's European....
Marketing...powerful.

Since Little Creatures sold out to Lion Nathan, I don't feel like supporting them, so Mountain Goat Steam Ale has become my preferred session beer. It isn't highly rated at Beer Advocate, but I seem to get pleasure out of it...

Hey,
Like many others here, my beer of choice is very much dependant on price. When i want a good cheap beer i look for Carlton Draught on special, when i have got some extra to spend i look for Carlton Draught. Yes i believe its that good!!!! Been drinking for 16years, Carlton Draught for 15 of them.
I have tried many others but i just keep coming back, those great Carlton Draught ads might also have something to do with it.
Cheers
Sharpy

I'm considering making it my beer of choice for a while.

I've been living in the UK on and off for the last 23 years and the array of real ales over here is overwhelming.
There are thousands and I do my bit to try them all .
We have a local brewery near Derby Derby Brewing Company of which I sample regularly.
I don't miss the Aussie beers one bit anymore. When I first came over to the UK I used to crave a Reschs or a Tooheys.
Just about to have a Black Sheep Rigwelter and a Black Sheep Golden Sheep.

We also brew our own real ales at home. Just finished a beautiful Stout and have just bottled some Real Ale which should be ready in a week or so.

I've just tried these three beers for the first time: Tiger beer, Miller draft and tooheys extra dry. When poured into a glass they all have a similar smell to them which unfortunately I don't like... cant put my finger on it, but have a sewer smell to them?

Seeing as it is the Beer thread, a little story might be in order
Flew to Melbourne in Feb, 2010 for the ACDC concert. My brother had purchased tickets for himself, his wife and teenage son. Unfortunately, the wife couldn't go, so the offer of a free ticket. I only had to purchase the plane fare and put in for overnight accom - great.
Great concert btw. Also got into the MCG tour. Well worth the effort.
Anyhow, the return trip to Perth included a two hour stopover at Adelaide. Ah well.
But, whats this? At the airport is the Coopers Shop, grabbed a few bits. And there on the otherside of the concourse is the Coopers Bar, with just about every brew on tap. I couldn't drink fast enough to sample every brew.
So fresh, and better than the bottle.
I sometimes think I should get a ticket to Adelaide, just for a half day stopover.
Sometimes the slow road is the best road to take.

Have to try that one tregs!

A beer by Burleigh Brewing company in Burleigh Heads QLD called "My Wife's Bitter" is a nice one I've tried lately. QLD version of a classic English bitter. Funny name for a beer.
