$72900 drive-away for a Sport BiTurbo with Prestige Paint and Touring Pack. Onrods are approx $1000 for rego, $2500 dealer delivery and 6.5% stamp duty.

$98k for a Raptor seems a bit high even with our taxes here.

I've got a V6 WT coming but my dealer is on annual leave so I haven't bothered him re price. My guess is 75 - 76 with prestige paint and the premium pack.

Yes 2wd models don't sell much. I always thought the 2wd high-rider was going to sell in much better numbers than it did, because it looks just like the 4x4 models and would cater to people who never go off-road, even though it's fairly capable with enough ground clearance and a diff lock to go further off the beaten track than many people would think. Especially with better rubber.

But it seems like everyone wants 4x4, except for base model cheapies for fleets and inner city tradies who use them on the worksite, and don't want to pay extra for 4x4. Although many do anyway.

The fact the V6 versions come standard with full time 4WD, and the 4 cylinders don't tells you all you need to know.

Going by those figures, I’m probably in for around 96k then.

Probably already covered, but apparently the raptor can be a bit of a handful on the wet roads, and they are investigating a more "highway friendly" tyre as an option , which I take to mean a silica "don't send me sideways into oncoming traffic in the wet" type of tyre.

You should have seen me driving home in the rain tonight..........power sliding through a roundabout, axle tramping leaving the lights............I may or may not have been helping the cause though.

In my mind, I don't see the point in having the look of the high rider and not having the 4X4 to match.

I'm probably going to get a 4x4 single cab. I have been in a couple of situations on job sites where and extra set of drive shafts would have been helpful.

Quick back of envelope calculations tells me a new replacement Vito 119 and V6 Wildtrak would be about the same and the Ranger can now fit a standard pallet in the back…. and comes with an electric cargo bed roller cover to help with security…….hmmmm

F150 and similar are too big for my needs, if I wanted to tow something big regularly, I’d look at them, but I don’t.

Raptor is a good size for me despite living in a place full of big American trucks (Karratha).

Understanding now how WA’s stamp duty is much higher than everywhere else, $96k is an acceptable price for me. I was ready to commit to anything under $100k anyway.

That's a good payload allowance. Thank you. Can put a bar on that and a few other things without worry. My Everest had a very low payload which was a pain for accessories.

Random question,
If Ford was considering some form of hybrid, could that be done with the 2.0 diesel
and a motor replacing the torque converter as with Ford’s other hybrids?

I’m thinking that would fit in better to Thailand’s diesel based manufacturing wile
extracting efficiency of the hybrid side with regen braking and electric drive off.

I know the wisdom is to use petrol with hybrid but in our region, a diesel probably
makes more sense for cruising efficiency while hybrid is perfect stop/start running.

Got to wonder how DPF burns and such would work in a hybrid setup. The new emissions requirements make it simpler to go petrol hybrid. Plus the weight saving of a petrol vs diesel (and added weight of batteries)

The 2.0 Panther diesel uses alloy block and head, it’s as light at a petrol engine.
If a Diesel engine is operations only at steady running conditions, diesel particles
will be much less and better controlled by urea injection at highway running.

The DPF clogging up is usually caused by people driving around the city at low speed, I can see how this might be exacerbated by a hybrid…..

a few people I know have the Hi Rider as they wanted the Ranger for towing caravans but NEVER wanted to go off-road

I am one of those.Have no need for 4wd.I bought a space cab partly for the extra secure storage space,partly because of a higher load capacity and partly because my wife finds it easier to get in and out.Just bought a BT50 extra cab for the same reasons.Why carry round a hundred extra kgs of gearboxes and diffs if I’m not going to use them.And I am going to tow a 3 tonne 5th wheeler with it.

Yep, me too. I had a RWD Territory, decided to move it on to get a 4wd so bought a diesel Pajero, used the 4wd once in the time I had it.
When I was looking at getting a ute I figured why bother with the extra weight and complexities and associated costs when the 2wd will do the towing I do without it, that it has a diff lock is a bonus.
Ive already taken it through the same track Id used the Pajero's 4wd on and it did it easily.

Looking at the list of offerings available on the new model Id be leaning towards the new XLS Hi Rider at $46k as it would have everything the PX2 XLT has and more but the 10sp issues is still a concern.

IMHO they should ban 'electric cars' as they are a fraud - you are still using 'fossil fuels' to charge them, either coal or other earth's resources

as far as I know, the only Ford hybrid transmission available is the MHT for petrol.

no, like the materials that they use to make batteries (lithium aren't they?), electric motors, copper is an earth material isn't it? well that is what I was told in secondary school all those years ago? Now what are those big fans made of again? and what earths materials go into making solar panels?

And what happens to the big fans, solar panels and the batteries from these 'green' alternatives at their life end? and they all do have a shelf life

I see it this way,
Hybrids are a great way to improve fuel economy when added to a petrol engine, perfect for mostly city driving and if I was to pick one, this would be it.

Plug in hybrids are great for commuters to charge at home each night and use the limited electric range almost exclusively, if anyone wants to try electric running, PHEVs are a great way to try while still having the ultimate run-flat defense, a petrol engine.

Battery Electric is just an extension of the above but it transfers all the responsibility for pollution regulation to power utilities, it offers government and manufacturers the opportunity of converting from tens of millions of carbon emitters to hundreds of carbon emitters that are more easily to control and change to less carbon producing resources.

As for what about lithium mining, and the copper for electrics and plastics….
The crazy politics of “what aboutism..” does my head in as just excuses to not do anything, change is always
painful especially for us, the consumers on the end of the line but in the end things do get better.

Seriously though I think its a bit of a compromise between load carrying capacity, rear leaf spring suspension, unloaded ute and road manners on the Thailand specials which creates some problems, thats why you see them backwards in roundabouts every month on DCOA compilations and not at high speeds either.

Maybe one day someone will make a half decent HT 4x4 tyre, like the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 for heavier vehicles that can help sort out some sketchy handling characteristics of Thailand Specials.

Dropped into local dealer today to see how long the wait is for a Raptor. If I order today, expected arrival April 2023


They expect to get their dealer/demo Rangers in July. Customers in August.
