Don't worry about NSW as I think QLD is the one to watch with their active case numbers. Annastacia Palaszczuk is actually doing us big favour by keeping the border closed to stop us getting infected from Queenslanders. The shoe is on the other foot! |

I’m feeling a bit challenged by the Danish initiative to cull their entire mink population per an initiative to stop reinfection of humans with a mutated coronavirus from the mink. 17 million mammals to be destroyed in short order, apparently the army is part of their methodology.

Data valid as at 23:59 GMT November 5th, 2020.
Note: As not all Australian States report at the same time, the data below is based on the previous full day reporting except for the Victorian 14 day moving averages. 14 new cases for Australia and no deaths so the CMR drops to 3.282% while active cases drop to 1,307. NSW recorded 5, WA 4 and SA 5 cases. Victoria reported no new cases for the last 24 hours for the 6th consecutive day. 2 new cases and no deaths for NZ so CMR is 1.267% and active cases fall to 68. The UK had a lower 24,138 new cases yesterday. We know they are now not counting their mortalities by the WHO guidelines so we are going to ignore the CMR but even using their method they recorded 378 deaths. Just over 108k new cases in the USA yesterday and 1,201 deaths sees CMR drop to 2.462% and active cases rise to 33.2% with the raw numbers rising and now over 3.2M. Note that the USA is actually minus one day due to time differences. Other notable points: Global cases pass 49M with the last 1M only taking a single day; Global cases set a new record high of 599,416; Europe passes 11M cases; South America passes 300k deaths; North America sets a new daily high with 126,139 cases; Europe sets a new daily high with 310,717 cases - the first day over 300k; The USA completes 153M, India 114M, Russia 63M, the UK 35M and Germany 23M tests. Latvia (367); Albania (421); North Macedonia (1,275); Azerbaijan (1,364); Lebanon (2,089); Georgia (2,401); Greece (2,915); Croatia (2,848); Austria (7,416); Romania (9,714) - 12% above the high yesterday; Ukraine (9,850); Switzerland (10,128); Germany (21,257); Poland (27,413); Italy (34,505); and France (58,046) ... all recorded new daily highs; those in blue for the second consecutive day and those in red for a third or more consecutive days.

On our local Channel 7 Tasmania News tonight it was quite amazing to see them covering flights of NSW people able to arrive and re unite with family and friends for the first time since March here in Tassie ...Showed some meeting grandkids for the first time .. That's the real human side of what this rotten virus has done to so many of us .
Awesome to those in Victoria despite some regrettable mistakes made from the second outbreak and hardships endured to see it under real control again .Hardship and mistakes or not they have done a great job getting zero cases in almost a week ..Impressive... When you see the massive threats facing Europe , the USA and other places as we speak , lets learn a lot of lessons from that and not see us as a nation go through the same nightmare in later months.. |

It would have been more useful for these to be brought up weeks or months ago. You would think even a half competent government would have an AG that knows they were on pretty firm if not solid ground. |

Any news on when VIC will accept returning travellers from hot zones, to go into hotel quarantine? When that happens, I'd expect the numbers to rise.
I think VIC has now joined the NZ travel bubble, where incoming NZ's don't have to quarantine for 14 days when entering VIC(??) |

Some random data:
Only 1 European country hasn't reached a new case high in the last 30 days and that is Ireland which recorded it's high 210 days ago. Asia has several with more than 100 days since the highest daily total but Singapore (200) and Turkey (209) have had the longest gap. Africa has none over 200 days with Egypt and the Ivory Coast (both 140 days) the longest. Neither North or South America have any over 200 either although Ecuador (196) is close and Chile (145) is the next best. By comparison, Australia is 115 days since the daily peak of 723 in July.

Little Ms Thurberg will go back to the top of the news this summer no doubt or ask the serious question of why men can not fall pregnant.

Start with an incompetent state bureaucracy, add a dash non-accountability, then stand idly by and watch 850 people die, lock the populations in their homes and nuke the economy for the next couple of decades? The big question is - has VIC learned from this? Has it upgraded its trace and track to be at least somewhere near NSW/QLD standards? Any idiot can kill a virus by freezing the state solid. Dial 1800-NSW if you want to know how to get stuff done... |

Riddle me this (BTW I know the answer) - why does ScoMo and Co heap so much praise on NSW but fail to acknowledge the great work of Tassie and S.A (both Liberal led States) who have done a far better job than NSW and Victoria - why haven't ScoMo & Co heaped praise on the Labor led States and Territories who have done a better job than Vic and NSW? (the answer to that is obvious) - why are they constantly praising NSW (there is a deeper answer here) Get your head out from under the blanket

I did post an AFR graphic a few weeks back detailing the last 20 or so years difference between VIC and NSW on public health spend per head of population and NSW was double VIC. The effect was to slowly centralise control as the funding cuts bit. Where did Victoria go so wrong with contact tracing and have they fixed it? "Fundamentally, NSW’s system of decentralised local area health districts meant when the second wave hit, that state was able to draw on teams embedded in their local communities to manage contact tracing. These teams worked independently but also in concert under the mothership of NSW Health. In Victoria, a legacy of cuts left the Department of Health and Human Services under-resourced and highly centralised, meaning there was a smaller base upon which to build the surge contact tracing capacity (with some contact tracers coming from interstate)." https://theconversation.com/where-di...ixed-it-147993 And it's fact that Victoria Health conceded they were hopeless and NSW was leading the way. Victoria moves to NSW-style contact tracing system "Chief Scientist Alan Finkel will take Victorian health officials to Sydney to study NSW's "gold standard" contact tracing, as Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton conceded that infection numbers outstripped Victoria's tracing capacity when the second surge took off in July." https://www.theage.com.au/national/v...08-p55tk9.html Quote:
Then there's the 850 dead. I don't reckon ScoMo/Josh/Hunt get many smiles out of that each night. Do you? Crikey! Haven't you been reading up on CV19 and bedding? Wash and often https://www.webmd.com/lung/qa/can-co...ses-and-sheets |
