Instead of sending our military resources to Ukraine and being so keen to get involved in everyone else's wars, we would have been better off thinking a bit more about our own, local sphere of influence and trying a bit harder to protect our own borders first and foremost. 'We' have dropped the ball very seriously there.

Russia-Ukraine war: Civilians evacuate Mariupol’s Azovstal plant
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/...azovstal-plant

Quote:
Russian state media and a Ukrainian soldier say several people have been evacuated from a steel plant in the pulverised city of Mariupol, including women and children.

Russia’s RIA Novosti reported on Saturday that 25 civilians had been brought out from the Azovstal steelworks, the last Ukrainian stronghold in the bombed-out ruins of Mariupol.

The news agency said the group included 19 adults and six children, but gave no further details.

A top official with the Azov Battalion, the Ukrainian unit defending the plant, said 20 civilians were evacuated during a ceasefire, though it was not clear if he was referring to the same group as the Russian news reports.

“Twenty civilians, women and children … have been transferred to a suitable place and we hope that they will be evacuated to Zaporizhzhia, on territory controlled by Ukraine,” Sviatoslav Palamar said in a video posted on the battalion’s Telegram channel.
Interesting that the Ukrainian military are using Telegram to communicate.

Journalists that are actually in Ukraine contradict some main stream media news articles.

Just another perspective...the truth is somewhere in between I suspect.

I love the way you try to twist comments, I said nothing of the sort!

2019..He was hit with a number of lawsuits for running a Ponzi scheme, then moved to Portugal..... to avoid the lawsuits?

2020.. Was sued for $7mill for copyright infringement.

2020.. Indiana filed a civil lawsuit against Clayton Morris, among others, for violating Indiana's deceptive sales and home loan acts in real estate deals involving more than 150 properties in Marion County.

Yep, that's someone who you can rely on for honesty

Cool..what about the other presenter, got anything on her?

She looks dodgey too...and all those journalists they must all be crooks.

Good work uncovering it all....

The link was about the content, not the person delivering it.

There is a video going around of a recent interview on state TV with Biletsky. Said any civilians celebrating May the 9th is a sign of provocation, and they will have a "flashy" response. Said they have tochka-U which has long range. Said Ukrainians have many funny videos and screensavers of Russian with their vehicles, and there may be more funny videos come May the 9th.

Who is Biletsky? Yeh, wikipedia that one.

I haven't bothered to look much at claims/counter claims of mass graves, presumably containing civilians, in Ukraine. Maybe they are true; maybe they are false.

Again, I go back 20 years, to the falsified/fabricated/dreamed-up/made-up claims of WMD in Iraq. Or earlier to the first Gulf War and the 'Iraqi soldiers removed babies from humidicribs in Kuwaiti hospitals and left them to die' stories.

I guess the 'mass graves in Ukraine' stories helped push the Germans over the line in deciding to supply weapons to Ukraine. These stories, true or false, pay a dividend.

If the stories are false, no one is ever held to account. It's a win-win situation for the generators of the stories.

Pope says NATO may have caused Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Pope Francis said that NATO “barking” at Russia’s door may have led to Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine — and said he has offered to meet the Russian president in Moscow.

There's absolutely no doubt that the fear of NATO led to Putin's invasion.

The question you meant to ask yourself was why do all Putinland's neighbors feel the need to join NATO?

Yes he fears NATO it seems, but having a fear doesn’t give him the right to butcher thousands of innocent men, women and children and destroy their country.
He is in possession of thousands of nuclear weapons bolted to hypersonic missiles and in ICBM’s in submarines and many other hidden locations. Surely not NATO nor anyone else in their right mind would invade or attack Russia in any way.
Those that possess Nukes generally don’t get invaded, talked down to or rubbished as China does to us every other day. Its about time we got some.

Yeah, not sure we need nukes here. It's like the old adage that people who own guns are most likely to die from gun inflicted wounds.

I think the message the West needs to send to China is to bring Putinland to its knees via economic means. China and Xi Ping understand this language. Then, in time, hopefully China reintegrates as a useful World citizen.

I was reading articles recently on the economic and democratic planning already underway for the post-Putin Russia and it's quite encouraging.

Thanks for posting - seems I underestimated you (didn't expect you to post an article that is not good news for Russia).

So no referendum, Sweden's parliament will make decision re joining NATO later this month based on their security report. And article confirms majority of their parliament support joining NATO, so unless the report changes that view then the writing is on the wall. Is only one of their minor parties that wanted a public vote if their parliament decided to join.

Some people treat these conflicts as some kind of sport, where you have to pick a side and start barracking. I don't. So sometimes it means looking at narrative that is contrary to popular belief. We have enough MSM narrating one side, so I don't feel a need to regurgitate the same thing.

Here is an interesting one...

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/...ol-steel-plant

Quote:
The United Nations and International Committee of the Red Cross began an operation coordinated with Ukraine and Russia on Saturday to bring out women, children and the elderly from the steelworks.

The Russian army said 126 people had left Mariupol in safe convoys over Saturday and Sunday from the steelworks and other districts for separatist-controlled Donetsk. Of these, 57 opted to stay in that area, while the others had decided to leave for Ukrainian-held parts, it said.

In the past, Ukrainian officials have accused Moscow’s troops of forcibly relocating civilians from areas they have captured to Russia; Moscow has said the people wanted to go to Russia.

Its a tricky one for democracy isn't it? If NATO is invoked, it'll be the people who will be risking their lives and suffering. I'm going to bet parliamentarians decision makers won't be on the front lines. If polling suggests 70% are for joining, whats there to be scared of? Unless this is all just posturing, in which case a For referendum result would back them into a corner. Interesting times.

I think that the idea of other countries joining Nato was put forward so that it could be used as a bargaining chip later on. If the parties ever sit down for genuine negotiations (and that's a big "if") then a commitment from these countries to not seek Nato membership gives Putin something to save face. If the govts of those countries are bound by a referendum then the negotiators have less flexibility. If Putin can't come out of this at least looking like a winner then what motivation has he to participate in talks? And it needs the Ukrainians to at least hold their ground for a while which is not a sure thing.

This guy has some insights into the impact of sanctions; not just on Russia but the rest of the world.
tl;dr We're all screwed, a worldwide recession is almost inevitable.

There's experts on here? But you don't need to be an expert to understand that Putin cares what some people think. If enough Russians start to think that they would be better off with different leadership he would care. He would remember what happened to the Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu in 1989. The people rebelled against Ceausescu. He lost power, the army turned against him, he was tried, found guilty then taken outside and shot immediately. From start to finish all over in less than a week.

In the long run this is not going to end well for Russia, which is a shame because I would guess that most of the people there either couldnt care less about the war or wouldnt want it to happen...and no Im not going to pay much attention to any popularity polls form Russia.
