Anyone know what a barrel of crude is worth today compared to the last 5 years?

Based on info from Macrotrends, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was US110.21 a barrel five years ago....today its trading at US71.99.

The AUD was trading at around 92 cents at that time.

Price rises just come round to bite fuel companies in the ****.....fuels been cheap for a while and when its cheap after a while everyone thinks il go for a cruise in the v8 just for the pleasure , take the boat out etc , when the price goes up it takes a while for everyone to get back into the habit of staying home , using the little runabout , parking the v8 .....once that habits formed fuel sales suffer big time and it really hurts them , as said with all these EV,s coming on board they need to keep the greed in check as once people change ....theres no going back and that slice of income is gone for good

In NZ , Z Energy (which owns Caltex NZ plus the former Shell sites ) has just bought a power company ?

When fuel is through the roof and dealers complain they can't give them away, that's the time to buy the V8 you've always lusted after!

Not to mention drinking from plastic bottles gives you a decent top up of phthylates and estrogen which is great for man b00bs and testicular shrinkage, and then goes on to do the same to the poor fish. Glass ftw

I always fill up when I have half a tank left... That way I always have half a tank in reserve.

Done this ever since there were petrol strikes in Victoria years ago, and we had petrol rationing imposed, and never forgot the long line of cars at the petrol stations.

so 5 noobs on failbook don't buy fuel for a day or week. the servos won't even notice.

even if it was 5000 noobs on failbook, they wouldn't notic the change to their bottom line for the week.

or they've seen the 'movement' on failbook, and will just jack up the prices on the day after when all the noobs are desperate for fuel. that'll show them.

destined to be an epic fail.

I thought fuel was getting a bit steep for a few months now as it were a few years ago but I paid $1.85 (BP 98) for this last tank in Braddon which is in Canberra CBD. I certainly remember paying $1.60-$1.70 but never this much.

Lucky for me, most of my driving is 80-100km/h with little stop/start so economy is pretty decent.

The only way to hit the companies is to actually reduce your fuel usage. Simply putting it off won't make a damn difference, they know you have to fill up at some point

In Canberra we had ACT fuel watch on Facebook, you may remember it. Most people were filling up at Costco and united in Fyshwick as part of the campaign. It must have peed the big players off as BP and Shell got their lawyers in and the Facebook page got shut down. The pages mods got taken to court as well, it was huge in the papers

Our fuel went down 15 cents on average in that period. As soon as the FB page went inactive the prices went back up.

It does make a difference if enough people jump on board.

Not sure how they can do that as the NSW Gov has their own.

The additive packages are different though, and added when the tankers fill up.

Just always buy petrol at the bottom of the fuel cycle, and also use the 7/11 app to lock in another 7 days once prices shoot up ~30-40 cents Then for many people, you wont need petrol until it goes near bottom again.

I have been doing this for years, most I have ever paid is about 10c over the bottom, and that was just once. (i also fill use a 20L jerry)

Quality of fuel may be better, especially in Europe but we are very lucky though, in that we can buy RON 98 at most places in Australia.

We think of the USA as being advanced, but there are many states and places in the US were their top fuel is RON 95 (MON 91) and you cannot get 98 (MON 93).

So if you have a car that requires or performs best on 98, a lot of Americans miss out unfortunately.

Shell 98 in perth is imported. BP 98 comes from the refinery 20 mins from my house.

The rest of the in 98 in Perth I have no idea so I dont buy it.

All my cars are tuned for E85 or 98. Iam not risking buying cheap imported crap fuel from a small independent.

United E85 in Perth . 6 outlets. For turbo barra, adds heaps of power . I wouldn't bother with an N/A 6 or 8.

FuelWatch was actually useful - letting people know where the best prices were, not a bunch of noobs going all 'stick it to the man' to buy fuel for a week. that'll never work.

NSW and WA (that I know of) are government services, not so easy to sue the government. The ACT ones was just a facebook page/group so easy to target and it folded faster than superman on laundry day. Not that I agree with the allegations at all, how can sharing public information (fuel prices) be something to sue over. if the expensive servos didn't want to lose business they should've been more competitive.
