Yet again another example of how out of touch they really are, pity, because it's a great looking car. Normal people don't care about how much of a change there is or isn't. The sheet metal changes alone are enough for a new model number. FGX obviously just sounds like another FG and it completely discredits the cosmetic effort that has gone into the car. Would love to know how the boffins actually finalised that name, honestly they could have chosen ANYTHING other than that and it would have been ok. There is no more effort in making it FG X than FF, FZetc...actually it's a PIA. But again...Fords got it covered and I am sure they spent good money to work this out...they are all over it. Disappointing is one word, the car deserves more....surprised the marketing guru's didn't come up with iFG...that's what the kids are into these days

Could this be like the "iSnack 2.0" saga...where a imbecilic name is chosen, sending social media into panic mode, then the name is "change due to poor reception", but the reality is its a marketing strategy?

FG X designation is OK with me. A different way of designating the new model, and I'm sure people will get used to it. And the rear views look quite refreshing imo.
Maybe the current FG wont depreciate so much with the introduction of the new FG X model. And in 10 years time when I'm still driving my XR50, the FG will still be the latest model. |

Well that's it then, because its called FG-X and not the more traditional model naming sequence, it must be a bad car. I had better cancel my order then.
If people actually read the press release they would know that the "FG" part identifies the car its based on and "X" acknowledges the Falcon's roots that start with the XK. At the end of the day, three little letters are not going to affect the sales or the fact that this will be a fantastic car that will live on in the minds of Ford Falcon fans forever.

The Fairmont Ghia tribute has been done. No need to do it again.

Probably right, but the general public gave up on the Falcon long ago. So since its only the diehards left then who are they trying to impress? Love someone to setup a well structed poll to get a general feel from AFF....

As far as crash testing goes, I thought any major re-design of the front required new crash tests as it changes the pedestrian safety rating etc?
And as for emissions that seems far fetched here, but keep on defending those in charge of a company which stopped listening to customers and marketing their cars.

I like it.
Reminds me of the Halloween sequel "Jason X: Evil gets an upgrade". **** poor movie but I've always found the title cool.

That kinetic XR6 looks great !
Interesting that there's some talk about a limited release of the FGX 6Turbo with a few significant performance upgrades for a send off. I'll be empting the bank account for another car if it's actually built ! |

Nice car, bad marketing with BS reasoning.
With the current Falcon on the nose with much of the buying public most companies would have tried to distance a newer version from the old and changing the model designation would have been the logical place to start that perception. For the uninitiated, persisting with FG is not only strongly linking the two models together, it is saying we haven’t got much or anything new to offer. If you weren't interested in the old why would you be interested in the new? I my opinion it reinforces what has been said by some members in previous threads over the past year or two, Ford aren’t really interested in selling Falcon or Ford’s marketing is a lesson in how not to…. |

And the XR8 gets another boring cheap looking single exhaust exit.
TWINS MAN TWINS! FFS Holden can do with the calis but our XR range cops a supercheap tip. FGX? WTF... Yep I'm having a *****. I just wish they would put some real effort into the last ever falcon and let everyone know it! Sometimes I swear the design and marketing team are monkeys. |

excuse me?! I'm trying to let you guys in on some of the reasoning without completely telling all as I'm not the one to do that, there are people at Ford that are paid to do that, but it's their choice to use BS marketing terms rather than the real reasons! I am not defending the choice of letters etc, I just understand the reason.
Don't you think they would have used a more simplified model designation if it was viable? Just think about that... |
