Im now thinking the name change is because of fleet pricing.
Buyers cant re-negotiate pricing as its still the same model...

Only guessing here too but it could be to do with part numbers and such. A lot of parts will be carry over and there would be a lot of work in changing all that.

Including the Designation; MkX
For mine, as annoying and a bit lazy as it is (breaking the two-letter format),the FGs are a much loved model (i'd think) and the X is a real falcon letter XK, XL, XM, XP, XR, XT, XW, XY, XA, XB, XC, XD, XE, XF, XG. XH then with EA, the XR (6/8) rears it's head again and stays through EA, EB, ED, EF, EL, AU, BA, BF and FG!!! Actually, as the XH continued past EA, there's been a Falcon available with X in the name from 1960 to now!! That's 25 separate models (plus MkIIs and IIIs) that have used an 'X' based on Falcon Heritage. Could have been worse, surely. Makes me want to add a 'FALCON" badge to the LHS of the GT boot - anyone done this on an FG yet?????

These days inventory systems are easy and just link parts together regardless of how many of the same parts are shared in different models.

By not reclassifying the model as a 'new' model (which FH, FZ, FX ect would signify), they have avoided some very expensive legislative requirements which would have forced them to invest significant amounts of $$$ towards certain certifications, because they'd be seen as releasing a new model to market post Nov 2013. This is simply not the cost of just a fake chrome letter or for marketing purposes. ;) |

Still ****ed off that a Falcon V8 ute (not an FPV with useless tow rating) has not been available for years - especially at a time when Australians crave a final model V8.
Three dealers have told me they are inundated with V8 ute enquiries but Ford doesn't listen. And then this: http://www.news.com.au/finance/busin...-1226967772594 After four XR6T utes I feel like a change. |

So what's the general consensus about the final Falcon? Do you guys like it?
I think it's pretty obvious the rear end was ripped off the Jaguar XF, and the front end was designed in such a way that it resembles the design language that Ford are looking to bring forward into the future, with the "Aston Martin" grills as evident on other models in the range. I hate to say it but I think the FG MK1 will remain the best looking contemporary Falcon. This new one just... I don't know what they were thinking. I feel as though they've taken two steps back. Ford must have been seriously cash strapped to produce something so... uninspiring. My 2 cents of course. |

Yeah it's not doing it for me. I would have liked to have seen what FPV could have done with this base shape...but oh well. The XR8 will be great value for money I think...but looks wise I'm glad I grabbed a GT while I had the chance

I really do think it is the best looking Falcon to date ... well since the XA anyway!
I have like the look of the XF jag rear, never liked the front. Love the look of the Mustang and the generic global front ...... so so far it is doing it for me in a big big way. Even the name I actually like. Just put the words Falcon on the bums, drop the term XT and its done! Big stiff if it rips off some bits from other cars as long as the cars that is similar look like Jags, Aston's and Mustangs! Better than being compared to Camry's and the ilk .....

Whilst I love the look of the car, the FGX model code sucks. For the first time in falcon history they opt for 3 letters? FX or FZ would have been 100 times better.

The Australian Falcon brand began with an X in its model number, perhaps it's not such a bad thing to end with an X .........might be the smartest thing Ford Au marketing have done for a long time, a big hat tilt to the past Cheers Mick |
