nathan-find me . Haha
I think my biggest problem is weekends, get on the cans and smoke like no tomorrow then wake up and feel like a coal miner. My biggest hurdle will be seeing how I go this Australia day long weekend, 5 days off drinking won't be easy to say no to a smoke!

If you continue to smoke and binge drink you have no one to blame but yourself if you end up in an early grave, im sorry to hear you have emphasema but i have no time for people who suck poison into there bodies like that then try to make excuses like i have time off work so i have no choice but to drink and smoke the whole time, you could just control your drinking and limit the chances of smoking, its all about self control

Sorry to hear this mate. As has already been said at least you got it in it's early stages.
However this has made me think. My wife and I are trying to give up atm. I am guessing a few others on AFF are trying to atm as well so maybe we should start a support thread and all try to give up together. Any takers on this idea???? |

Combined with a predisposition to and history of breathing difficulties, your ingestion over two years of timber dust and fibres(many containing chemicals) may be contributing to your current issues. Good luck and I hope for the best outcomes for you. |

that's devastating news, it definitely give you a wake up call.
I'm a none smoker, never been my whole life (a whole 25 years) but have had the one or two for the hell of it in the past, and I can tell you I couldn't be a smoker if I tried Definitely try the therapy programs, well worth it imo. I think the patches are pointless? everyone I know who smokes tried and failed them, like my mum who smoked the same amount and wore patches, she has lung issues now me and my twin brother are the only ones in my family(tree) that don't smoke it seems definitely give it up while you can |

It's the 3rd anniversary tomorrow of my quitting.I started smoking when I was about 14, (I am now 50) and ended up being a 20-30 a day gasper. My work dictates that I have many and regular medicals. I had one 4 years ago, and was told I was bordering emphaseamic and had the lung capacity of a nearly 80 year old. Although I had tried to give them away many times before , this was the final straw for me, and I remember vividly coming home from the Big Day Out and at 2 o'clock that morning crushing the last 10 or so smokes in the pack, and have never touched 1 since.
That sounds extremely easy but for at least 2 years I was gagging for a smoke, cold turkey is not easy, but it worked for me. I now cannot stand the thought of smoking, let alone smelling it,I have since been back for another medical, 6 months ago, and the doctor was incredulous that not only had I not done more irreparable damage , but had in fact recovered so well from the harm that had been done. On the spiro test I am now back to over 70% of my lung capacity. I take my hat off to any one who is able to kick this (or any other habit), it's a personal Everest as far as I'm concerned, and I wish you all the best. Will certainly give my support on any subsequent thread. Ps My next challenge is to lose the 20 kgs I have put on since I stopped!!

with your lung problems ( regardless of the final diagnosis) to keep smoking is madness . of course the choice is ultimatly yours but saying i have a plan to quit by next year is like finding your car has no oil in the sump and saying I have a plan to put oil in it but I will keep driving in the mean time by the time you do it more damage will be done, just like continuing to smoke till you can quit
I know they are highly addictive but if you want to minimise the damage chuck them away now and tough it out, none of us want to read your funeral notice at the age of 30 because you smoked a bit longer good luck with both your specialists appointment and quiting

thanks for the words guys.
Au3xr6- I'm 21 in may this year, smokes are gone by then for me. Tuf 302- ease up, we all make mistakes, what I said in regards to Aus day long weekend was a bit toungue in cheek. Won't be easy not to smoke but I'm not about to lunge desperatly for the pack first chance I get. My hope is I don't have a single one at all! And because I want to quit so badly I'll make sure I don't.

If by "smoking" you mean "Peuty" and by "bald tyres" you mean "small children to cry" then maybe you're on the money there peut.

Damn I'm really sorry to hear. That's bloody horrible news to have to take at such a young age. I wish you all the best.
Thank you for sharing this. It's a timely reminder to us all. |

I had my specialist meeting today, results are a week away but he is now confident I do not have emphysima, he does believe asthma is on the cards, but that's again a week away. A fair bit of relief, despite the fact the results are a week away.

Don't stress I'm still commuted to quitting. Picked up a quit info pack from the specialist, I'll be using the NRT(nicotene replacement therapy) products and hopefully with my own willpower and some patches, I'll be all good.
