Hmm... so in NZ chips (aka fries) are called chups?

I don't know about others but I think this is interesting. Depending on their shape it's either fries, curly fries or wedges to me. All are yummy as long as they're not oily. The twice fried ones are really crisp on the outside and tender inside....<but not good for you>.

Oh great, now I'm craving some fries and it's not even mid-morning yet. *sigh*

I was thinking much the same. When I looked into it, they only share a hand full of menu Items, if that (Whopper comes to mind). Having said that, I think HJ works under the control of BK???

The name change is due to copyright, or trademarking... We had a mob somewhere in OZ that already was called 'Burger King' so the name was changed to Hungry Jacks.

My sister worked there for a while, which is why I looked into it.

They have a burger and fries challenge too.


I haven't been to either of these, but Man V Food has perked up my interest that's for sure.

Be warned though, once you try Misty's, you won't be going back to Captain America's.. not even the same league unfortunately.

There is also Soda Rock in Sth Yarra on Chapel, not far form Misty's, that place was a massive disappointment.. ended up not paying for the few meals that made it to our groups table.

Misty's ALL the way, best food and service and ya can't beat their thick shakes either!

Local independant supermarket/cafe/servo does a Tradie Burger (chicken), and a Mongrel Burger (beef)....which is a challenge in itself to finish.

My recent trip to NZ, had a meal at Velvet Burger which was awesome! Once of the largest burgers I've had.

When I was a kid, the roadhouse at Nathalia did a dinner plate size burger.

I noticed their caesar salad had a weird spice taste to it as well.
Then found out 24 hours later I'm allergic to their food, and was told by someone at the restaurant I went to not to go back again, and that it's not uncommon.

Couldn't find anything in the recipe that I've had a problem with before though. Tried it twice, and twice had a problem, so it's definitely something.


What we really need here is Cheesecake Factory and Bubba Gump.

After spending last month in the States i did really well and didn't put any weight on! Despite the huge portions of food and sides of
French fries, American fries, mashed potato, baked potato, hash brown or sweet potato being offered. Ha! who needs a 72 oz steak?

Funny you guys should mention outback steakhouse. I had it last night (it's about 50m from where I live) and of all the times I've been there, I've only had steak once. Every other time it's the alice springs chicken and the chookaburra wings.

how the F did I miss this thread. I've been watching MvF on foxtel for the past 2 years. Favourite food show by far and often I watch reruns over and over.

I sooooo want to go to Driftwood in Texas to visit the Salt Lick BBQ. OMG the meat there looks F-ing insane.

I think you'd like Chef Guy Fieri's show called "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." He visits exactly that, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. Most are viewer recommended and he visits, talks to the owners and guests, then they cook up a couple of recipes together. Guy tastes the dishes they're known for and he does it all in an informal way. *He drives a '67 Camaro, its an original SS convertible (with a new 350). He's a Chevy man, he even has a 2011 "bumble bee.*

Oooh Cheesecake Factory! Must wait for 30-45 min or longer on the weekends but once in, it's heaven! Difficult to decide which cheesecake to order though bc there are way too many choices!

Portion size is ridiculous here. Plates needs to be smaller so portion sizes can be smaller. More is not always better. I have guy friends who finish what I order, they are happy as can be! They work out and play lots of sports though so they can eat like that.

We went a couple of times in Hawaii, OMG!!

On our last night there, we decided to stop by earlier in the day to make a reservation for that night.
The host asked if we had a reservation, and we said "No, we'd like to make one", to which the reply came back "Oh, we don't take reservations. First in first served." Wait wut?

Ended up at California Pizza Kitchen instead. Not bad, but I was hanging out for my Reeces Peanut Butter Choc Cheesecake

My sister in law went to the cheesecake factory in Hawaii as well when she was over there an said the same thing. First in, first served. But she got in and said the food at that restaurant is unmatched here in oz. Servings were beyond generous and no left still feeling hungry.

Yep MvF made me want to go to the U.S on a food pigout, plus of course I do want to go to aviation museum, NASA, baseball game etc, but I would be in fat man's heaven at some of those places. My only issue is I am too impatient to wait in line. I would love to go to where those 2 hotdog places are next door and see who really is king lol.

Totally. I would have to buy an extra seat for my 3 asses on the plane home after a month trialling all these places.

Here in SA, the Stag Hotel has a version of the famous 'Jucy Lucy' Burger that the 5-8 club does. Im not sure what it was like in the U.S. but the one here looked just as big and tasted pretty freakin good.

The juicy lucy just didn't do it for me lol, I love a good burger, but I prefer my cheese on top, although I have thought of making a juicy lucy. I would love to try hotdog's, the various pizza's, burrito's and of course some bloody brisket lol.

I make my own pizza's anyway and have a dough recipe that gives a base similair to NY pizza. If our country would just offer the same sorts of franks etc, I wouldn't need to go to U.S lol.

Used to watch a show called Food Wars where there was a battle between two fast food joints who both claimed to have developed the Jucy Lucy. Similar style to MvF - I believe they're both on the Travel Channel.

IIRC, the winner between the two was the other joint. Does look like a tasty burger though, provided your arteries didn't harden before the final bite.

I havent been to one in a few years, I'm not a fan of a "Stakehouse" any more I think is the main thing. I used to love the old style Lonestar with the peanuts and stuff, but I think I jsut grew up and now well I much prefer a smaller general resteraunt to the big stakehouse thing
