The Cam was overhead, which makes it an OHC. There have been plenty of OHC engines that use rockers, including Ford.

A lot of people used to hang **** on the Magna, but I think an AWD Ralliart with a supercharger on the stock V6 could bit of a weapon.

Yep my ol man was a GM believer, he had a string of Holden wagons from EK through to HZ. As well as buying a few Chevy C60 furniture pantecs.
I can remember when they announced the Commodore was to replace the Kingswood he sold me his last wagon (my first car) and ordered an XD Fairmont Ghia
His first Ford after many loyal years buying new Holdens.
He originally started out in business running a Ford Consul.

I owned a few V6 Magna's, the last one was a TL (Final shape before the 380) VR-X Manual. Had pacemakers, exhaust and intake. Was a great, well built, reliable thing... Well, I already hotted up an EA so know all about doing up cars with a crap reputation, and to be honest I made it a cool car, so yeah, I'd do it again. In Fairmont Ghia guise it was a very comfy car and pretty stylish for it's time. With the Multipoint 3.9 and a 5 speed, it actually went pretty quick too. They were certainly by no stretch perfect (front end alignment was always working it's way out, power windows etc gave a few headaches) but it certainly wasn't the POS that people made them out to be.

The 3.9 with a 5 speed was actually a pretty quick bit of gear for the time. 15.7 quarter mile if i remember correctly.

My old man wound one off the clock, out the back of broady while on his way to the plant one day back in the late 80’s.

One of my mums friends had a mitsubishi scorpian. The 2 door sigma thing back when i was a kid. It was brown with a brown interior. I know only a handful sold, and i also know only a smaller handfull of people modified them, but from memory, in such a small car the 3.8L commodore v6 made them go pretty good. I would drive one of those, especially brown on brown. With a 3.8 v6, welcome to brown town.

One of my brothers mates bought one of those way back when. After he wrote of the mk1 escort gt. He didnt pay that much for it, but it had a 90s alfa efi v6 in it, so not 'pure', but it did things like corners and stuff.

Hi guys,
They say ( who ever they are) that the Chrysler Centura was not best car made.
It came out in a 4 cylinder but also 3.5 litre or 4 litre 6 cylinder engines and i can imagine the 6 cylinder engine models went pretty good.

Leyland cars get my vote like the Morris Marina and the Triumph stag which was a great looking car for its time. Triumph was to twin 2 inline four cylinder into 2.9 litre V8 and a 3 litre V8.

They had cooling problems, water pump problems, timing chain problems, Head gasket problems.

1971 Hillman Hunter Chrysler had a sporty model that had like a Pacer paint job. may get looks.

Austin Kimberly could have some potential with a turbo, a mate had a run with a Land crab 1800 up in the hills with his VN Commodore 5.0L auto and he was in shock as the land crab went past him.

My brother's first car was a Hillman Hunter. The folks promised him the Fairlane if he worked for them over summer and earned it. He did the work, saved the money, and then Mum said no, he'd kill himself, so they bought him a Hunter.

He took it to a mate who was into racing and threw all his money at it and made it into a beast.

My first car was a 1976 Corolla. That's what i'd go for as a project if I was to ever do that. Don't know if they count as a ****box, but I have a soft spot for them, and they are pretty **** by today's standards!

I'd love one of these 4L I6 Jeep Cherokee's, one of my old customers had one of these, both the front ****ing doors fell off from the latches snapping off from the body, we had to repair the wiring every time one of the doors fell off and he got the car welded up and repaired.

Turbo hanging off the side of that 4L I6 would make a weapon I reckon.

This is a great post "crap cars of the past". I could write five pages on this topic.

1. Holden camira.
2.Leyland Morris/Marina Six.
3.Ford Cortina six the car was overpowered and if pushed too hard it was hard to keep on the road as it under steered and oversteered simultaneously.
4.Datsun 120y Automatic.
5.Toyota Lexcen.

Thats just a few i can think off.

A mate of mine and a good mate of 30 years went and brought a second hand XJ6 Jag.
I told him all about the problem with the Lucas Electrics but he wound'nt listen to me and went ahead and brought it.

I took him out to get the car and on the way back he stoped. I got out of my car and said "what are we stopping for"?
he said " the car just stoped".

My reply was after i finished laughing " Lucas prince of darkness strikes again".

He told me "you can go and get ****" and it did'nt help when the NRMA turned up and said "sorry mate it will have to be towed". I burst out laughing again.

I find the 1980s interpretations of 'the future' absolutely fascinating with those weird and wonderful designs where everything was square and everything went 'digital'.

Also if you look at the end of the 1980s through to mid 00s Mercedes seemed really intent on designing cars that looked like they were targeting old men who wear beige cardigans and drink tea.
