I would definately cruise past a cop car if they weren't doing the speed limit and it was safe and legal to pass them.
I dunno about dragging a copper though Crofty, especially when you think its a taxi. Haha good on you for trying though! |

Um overtake a cop car? I haven't seen one not speeding to be able to if I wanted. Bit hypocritical isn't?

However that said, I've happily been above the speed limit behind or beside a police vehicle doing the same whilst not attending to any job. Also some cars are scared to overtake me as they confuse my car for an unmarked too lol.

Last time I overtook a police car was on the stuart highway heading north. He was doing about 110, I passed him at about 160ish. We stopped for lunch, he stopped at the same place a little later on. He just smiled and asked how our day was going......

Obviously I am labouring a point in this thread, but I think that coppers get ridiculously built up and have all manner of stupid stigma attached. I have a heap of mates who are coppers and they are just people. It's that simple.

I know of many police officers too and while they might be people like you and I, some officer's attitude to "civillians" while on duty leaves alot to be desired. Staying on topic though *most* people don't overtake police cars because most of the time there is a chance of being intercepted, which can be an unecessary delay for some.

Overtake anything, anytime. My car is an ex-cop car, with the speedo calibrated to match my GPS unit, so as accurate as I can get it, and I will overtake police cars while I am doing up to 10km/h over the limit, and have never been pulled over doing it. ie 110 in 100 zone, on the tuggeranong parkway and monaro highway in canberra. I think if I was pulled over, I would see them in court, as traffic generally ends up doing 10km/h under whenever a cop car, or ambulance(!), is around, so I am just balancing out the traffic flow.

your comments regarding my brake lights are fair..... but if you read my second post i explained how they "went through my car like a dose of salts". why should i worry...the only deffective thing was my brakes...and they failed to miss them....i got pulled over expecting that to be the reason....which it wasn't |

Mostly only on freeways or dual lane roads.
I like the ones who sit on 99 in a hundred zone, you go to pass them at 102/103 so you slowly crawl past them over a distance of 600 or 700 metres.... smile

And in normal circumstances, I find it highly amusing that no one will overtake them. I always do, as long as it's safe and legal. |

But I always go past at 60km if I'm not speeding to do it but not at any higher speeds because the exhaust is a bit too loud (read 104.7dB) ... dont have P's now so as long as i try to keep the exhaust quiet it's ok

There is some rampant paranoia and the usual drivel about cops but I can assure you that it's quite safe to go past them if they aren't doing the speed limit. If you get pulled over it's usually for a random check as they need to be seen to be working.
When they decide to go through people's cars there is usually a reason ... generally a complete suckhole attitude, they are looking for a car/person that vaguely fits a description or the driver has some form. The other thing I find vastly amusing is hoiw everyone has a crappy police story.. why don't people complain about the rubbish service they get from other places?? |

Probably to do with the power trip that is imposed on you when you are the victim of a crappy police story. The bird at the bank might give poor service sometimes, but she aint threatening or trying to intimidate me either.
Good & Bad in all, but this thread is about a crappy one. |

If you think they are bad to you, try being another police officer working with them, try being a trainee when you get treated worse than the crooks.
It's only a power trip if you let them get away with it. If you remain calm and comopsed it's nothing but a time filler. If you have done wrong then IMO, you fall on your sword and get on with life, if you haven't then let them carry on as it's just bluster. When he/she is done you go away and they have done nothing but provide entertainment. I think people's egos get in the way of their common sense at times.... and I don't just mean the police. |

hell no, i wont overtake a copper, as soon as i see one up ahead, indicator on and get out of there..., the exaust is a bit loud and the XD shakes at the lights when idling, plus ride height, (only 5mm out but still a pain in the ***) most coppers are ok in Shepp but its the HP and the Taskforce that are assholes

Would never pass one, especially if its a togger.. Slammed BAXRT on 20's seems to be a bit of a cop magnet, especially de-badged and with p-plates!

XA Coupe...unfortunately I think your bashing your head against a brick wall.....there are those who are sensible and treat coppers with respect...then there are those that think they know it all and wonder why they get a hard time.
And to all the cop bashers out there...where do you think we'd be without the thin blue line...time to grow up ppl.
