Hey Beer Baron, thanks for providing/producing the how to remove/replace your roof lining it saved me a lot of time and saved me money
Reading this "how to" before hand has made the job a lot easier to do and took all the guesswork away. The hardest part was definately getting the rooflining out of the car but luckily i had a assistant (my Mrs lol!). Got quoted $120 ($220 full job) to recover the rooflining which is pretty good - i had to remove, clean and install it though.

I had mine professionally recovered for $110 in Toowoomba and I can't complain with the job that's been done. The guy even drove to where I was for that price and did it whilst I was parked at work.

Just got my AU2 Fairmont head lining replaced here in Brisbane, the guy had three Fords lined up to do as well as mine!
Took 3 hours and the job is perfect, for $190.
I replaced the head lining in my RX2 Mazda a lot of years ago, and promised myself I would never do that job again, though I realize that the two are very different jobs because of the medium which holds the lining in place!

I got a mobile guy to come to my place at Murrumba Downs and replace mine. Took him about 90mins. Cost around $160. Very happy with the job.Will look for his number when I get home.

my son and I replaced the roof lining in the EB sedan a couple of weekends back. was quoted $345 to get done by local motor trimmers. We probably spent $120 (velour and glue) all up.

basically followed the guide but used a high temp aerosol adhesive.

did mine using selly adhesive spray on cant say how long it will last but for my first attempt it turned out ok plus hooking the roof mount up aswell

i just have to remove the back part now and do that aswell

I have ordered this material for my Fords (the 4 in the household have all decided to start shedding their headlining). Interestingly the new cars are worse than the older ones - the EL has sagged badly all over while the NB and NC have just a little that is barely noticeable near the drivers sun-visor where I assume the foam has been damaged when the visor have be moved up and down.

I am still researching adhesives and noting these are foam backed materials I am currently looking at 3M Foam Fast 74 or 3M Super Hi Strength 90. Apparently DAP Weldwood is best but I can't find a source in Oz.

Other suggested adhesives have been Permatex Bodyshop Heavy Duty Headliner & Carpet Adhesive, Part No. 27828 and believe it or not, SHOE GOO - any views on these?

More research suggest that as the roof gets hot, although less readily available in Oz the 3M Super Trim Adhesive 08090 might be best for my foam backed material http://multimedia.3m.com/mws/mediawe...6EVs6E666666-- as 3M claim:

Advantages: Can be used for heavy trim pieces, such as headliners

Benefits: Allows technicians to bond heavy materials, instead of mechanical fasteners
Technician can bond in hot areas, instead of mechanical fasteners
Most vinyl trim (difficult to adhere to) can be bonded
For bonding medium to heavyweight trim materials, including carpeting, carpet padding, many fabrics, headliners, hood silencer pads, and other equipment. It is a very aggressive adhesive, and can bleed through lighter-weight fabrics.

but not for felt or fabric due to the bleed through issue.

Just had mine replaced by a mobile guy. $180+GST. He did an excellent job. The colour and material match perfectly, plus, I can now see out of my rear windscreen. Well worth the money, and the fact that I didn't have to lift a finger.

You did not get air bubbles, you got pockets were the glue did not hold. You need commercial grade contact adhesive. Bought in 20l drums for about $80.
Sprayed on with a paint air gun with 2.0mm nozzle.

The glue in the spray cans is thinned down and in my experience i have fixed many jobs done with what i refer to as hobby contact adhesive.

I could glue a thick rug to your roof and you will struggle to pull it off without destroying it.
It has a high moisture and heat resistance which is what you need on your headlining. I use 3/4 of a spray pot to glue a BA headlining on. Whole job should take 1 to 1.5 hours refitted.

Sorry to bump this back up again (good info in here) Mines starting to come down right in front of the driver :( (I think it'd be worse if I hadn't installed a GT Roof/window clock.

2 questions though
1: has anyone done it reusing the Ford material? Ie do you have to replace it with new material or can it be stripped off and glued back on (does the foam stick to the material making it useless?).

2: the foam that you scrape off the headboard, do you guys replace that or just scrape it off and glue the new material straight to the board

Also on a side note anyone know any good trimmers in the shire south of Sydney or out Campbelltown way (NSW)? Cheers

The foam is a foam backing on the material and it is the whole problem, the foam degrades and turns to powder, you can't stick anything to it. The new material that you buy has the foam backing.

ok I tried this this arvo removed and relined took old cloth washed and dryed
prepped lining wiped with thinners to remove excess glues.
sprayed lining 3 times while cloth washed and dryed
sprayed cloth appled to linning refitted done.
time about 5 hours cost 2 large cans of selleys kik grip.
no foam no drop.

Hi Guys,

thanks to Beer Baron for starting this thread and revealing the secrets for us.

My own Terri needs this before the lining gets much worse. However, I can't believe that you guys over east can get this job done by pro's for so little.

I just called up one guy over here in Perth and they want $550 for it. And that might have been plus gst !! I didn't wait to find out - lol

Can anyone suggest someone over here in the wild west that can do this work for a reasonable price?
