Yep, all those have killer riffs, but I could add another one to the list:

Bon Jovi: Raise Your Hands

(I was watching SpaceBalls last night).

Ozzy Osbourne: Old L.A. Tonight
Dimmu Borgir: Devils Path (2000 Remake), Kings Of The Carnival Creation
Windir: 1184
Slayer: Ghosts Of War, Angel Of Death
Pantera: The Sleep

A few good ones.

Think some of these are stretching the definition of a riff. Some are fantastic solos or licks but not repeated progressions.

Walk This Way - Aerosmith
Day Tripper - Beatles (and a few others of theirs)
You Really Got Me - The Kinks

If we are just talking about sound to the ears and not technicality then.
"Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee" by Nuno Bettencourt (but he did cheat)

Eruption- Eddie Van Halen.

Nearly anything from the usual suspects plus
John Petrucci, Adrian Smith and Dave Murray.

ok i just whipped this up

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-2zj0hEzFE

i just chucked 5 of the, in my opinion, sickest riffs ever written.

they are all metal, cause the best riffs are always metal riffs :P and there are some harsh vox... (original recordings. i couldnt be bothered setting up my rig to actually record the riffs)

Yes mate , it will be one of the "All Time Classic's" because there is such a variation of styles in the one song , I can't think of another one like it . Even with my above comment , it's still a great song and always will be.

Absolutely fantastic Instrumental , I listened to it over & over till the Mrs said "Give it a break" , now I use the headphones . Lol

Edit :- Just imagine some of the incredible music we would have if we hadn't lost all those fantastic musicians over the years . eg , Hendrix , Lennon , what a loss to the industry . What do you guy's think ?

To pick only one riff is way too hard, but my favourite "riffmasters" would have to be:
K.K Downing/Glen Tipton - Judas Priest
Adrian Smith/Dave murray - Iron Maiden
Jeff Haneman/Kerry King - Slayer
Chuck - Death

Yeah , XR8Rob , that's why I put in an earlier post , there are just so many , we'd fill the server up , have a think how many good Riffs per year over the last 40+ years in all styles of music , 1,000's .

Necrophagist rip.

But as has been said, Black Sabbath have already written all the good riffs. Everything else is just a reworking of a Black Sabath riff!

yeah your right and I say bugger it lets overload the server :the_finge
Black Sabbath deserve a big nod for sure...more doom & gloom! Also, I still dig the Dio-Sabbath phase as well, after all Ronnie is my favourite story teller of all time....watch out for them rainbows!
edit: well maybe second fave story teller, after Tolkien

I'll add the work of Steve Morse to the mix. Love his work.

Petrucci for the melodic, crisp, yet heavy progressive work. My favorite, has been for a long time now.

Metallica's early work was great, To Live is to Die, Orion, Call of Ktulu, Harvester of Sorrow...Fade to Black... the list goes on for them in that era.

Ill agree, but Ill also disagree. He is good, but hes not great. If you want real talnet, type in Victor Wooten solo in you tube, and be amazed. Ive been playing for 7 odd years (Bass), and only recently heard about Wooten. I didnt even know a Bass could be played like he plays it. He plays for Bela Fleck.

Doesn't anyone here like prog rock?

Carry on Wayward Son - Kansas
Heat of the Moment - Asia
Aqualung - Jethro Tull
Roundabout - Yes

Also, lots of other stuff from the above bands, Pink Floyd, Boston, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc

Showing my age....
