The ECU monitors the pressure drop across the DPF. An increase in the pressure drop corresponds to a higher soot loading.

It says the oil must meet ACEA A5/B5-08.
The only difference between the specs: A3/B4: light duty A5/B5: extended use and engines capable of using Low Viscosity Oils with HTHS Viscosity of 2.9 to 3.5 mPa*s. (source: http://www.oilspecifications.org/acea.php) The service interval is 15,000 km but I change every 10,000 km so that's covered, but the other part, does it really matter? It DOES exceed the M2C913-C spec required, D is just the next iteration of the spec right and they are backwards compatible? Checked oil levels today and about 3/4 way up the stick. Only worried about the DPF on this one. |

The Peugeot oil specification for our engines is a C2 oil, which is mid SAPS and 2.9 - 3.5 HTHS. It isn't clear why Ford don't specify a C2 oil also, but if the engine manufacturer requires mid SAPS, then that's what I'm going to use.
Lubrizol some good info on the ACEA standards. This is fun to play with. https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/pc.html Yes, M2C913 oils should be backwards compatible. Ford Europe state a 20,000 km / 1 year oil change interval, so Ford AU are already being conservative. Sent from my SM-G9208 using Tapatalk

Great, going to switch to a C2 then once this oil hits 10,000 km, which is about how many kms I do a year.
Good idea to look at the Peugeot oil spec, didn't think of that. |

What do people think of this? http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Pro...itre-C4/518975
Meets the spec and for cars with DPF. |

Penrite Enviro+ Engine Oil - 5W-30
As far as have seen this is the only oil which breaks the Alice in Wonderland oil labeling tradition. By claiming to meet Ford specification while at the same time being suitable for vehicles with DPF, my nightmares might subside. In the meantime I'll have to use the 30l stock of Nulon C3 long life diesel oil. Last edited by rondeo; 04-05-2017 at 05:10 PM. Reason: addition |

well it meets a Ford spec, Ford M2C934-B (level) whether or not it'll bring negative affects is another issue. i find you can get fancy with oils all day long but at the end of the day an oil that meets the original spec will do me just fine.
Just so happens to be Nulon.

I never said it was, only that it 'meets a Ford Spec.' you said "Interesting that it meets the Ford spec." but if you notice it only says that on Stupidcheap website which you should take with a pinch of salt. Penrites website actually has the spec I posted.

Well spotted!
The subject is endless, so it's easy to talk about. If the information on the container labels were digested completely one would fall ill. I starting to get dizzy already. Anyway, I'm guessing Ford oil standards are higher than plain ACEA etc in terms of cleanliness, valve train wear etc, and are fuel efficient (eco, enviro etc). Unfortunately for the very small minority who are interested Ford isn't saying, the information is secure . . da dah! |

Yeah I've never taken a third party website for info as concrete, I've always gone to the manufacturer for everything. Was the same for that ELF tans fluid I used in my slushbox, right down to the cSt (centistokes) to keep viscosity as close as I could.
I'd like to give it a go but I'd need to look into C4 for the exact reasons you've mentioned. Hard when I've got a large supply of nulon already but still nice to have options, uptodate too.

I was struggling to understand how it could meet C4 AND M2C913-D. Not sure I understand what that was all about but never mind.

PS Go here https://online.lubrizol.com/relperftool/pc.html and compare ACEA A3/B4 2012 and M2C913-C.
You might have to reload the page after you click on the link to get the list of specs to appear.

Thanks. Clears thing up a bit.
Looks like your guess was better than mine. The note at lower right is a bit unsettling though. Judging from the Lubrizol comparison tool fuel efficient beats aftertreatment compatibility in Ford vs ACEA C sequence comparison. Either ash is not critical to the life of Ford DPF or Ford deemed it best to sacrifice DPF life for fuel efficiency or they plain forgot? |

So.......I used a Kuga 2.0 DW10C engine PID for DPF soot levels in the Torque App and the car returns 88%.
Apparently DPF regen occurs when levels are above 80% so should I expect a regen soon? With our cold weather I think it never gets to temp for it to perform a regen... |

I believe a regen is suppose to happen at 80% so indeed you're probably due or at least close to it, monitor exhaust gas temp to give any indications.

I've set the soot level % reading to display at all times on the centre display, so I'll keep on eye on it and see if it drops.

Set to show EGT1 and EGT2 on the same display, apparently I have two of them. Going to see my temps tonight when I go to work.

Car was trying to do a regen on the way, DPF soot showed 100% unfortunately got to work before any result could be seen. Leaving work it showed high 70s so it burnt a little. Decided to give it an "Italian tune up", EGT2 started to get really high and car starting using 2L/ph sitting still idling. Suddenly DPF soot started dropping, continued going, dropped even further. Then I sat in car until idle fuel use dropped to 0.5L/ph. EGT2 temp started to drop. It completed its cycle. It in the 30s now.
Also when I got out of the car it smelt like the sooty crap smell, that's a sure sign that the cycle happened. All good for now, working as it should |

Thanks for that. I've never left it idling during a regen because it's a bit scary with the cooling fans running and the heat smells. I'll be brave next time!

30% off oils right now at SCA, seems to be only Penrite though.
