Had my front rotors and pads replaced at about 57K. Supplied genuine parts (from UK) and they were dealer fitted. Now at 67K and have had quite bad brake shudder for the last 5k or so. I can't really find any evidence of this being a common problem with the Mondeo and the first set were fantastic - good bite and nice, smooth operation. Anyone experienced similar?
Going in for another service shortly and I intend to bring this up as I'm struggling to see how anything other than poor installation (namely failure to clean the hub correctly) has caused this. There's been no change to driving patterns at all. Solution will be to machine the disc which invariably will shorten its life and replacements as we know aren't on the cheap side.

I have just bought some new pads for the front & rear and gonna change them myself. Before I get stuck in, is there anything to look out for when changing or anything that will make the job a lot easier.
Got a full set of pads F&R, EBC, for $150.

Old thread I know, but FYI I have been told by 'someone in the know at RDA' (vague to avoid comebacks to him / her) that they supply the Perth ford dealers with their Mondeo discs. So the OEM quotes might be a little dodgy! Maybe not, but it's hard to know once they're on (unless there's a Ford logo cast in?).
For those in the northern suburbs of Perth I just buy my RDA's for the MB Mondeo from Wanneroo Auto One; ordered in no worries, and good blokes as well. The rears are fine and work well (were worn out after ~50,000); now for the fronts which I'm ordering this week. Incidentally, I'm told the rears wear worse because the ESP occasionally applies at the rear in normal driving when you take corners. Not sure about that, but could be... |

My RH rear inner pad has 2-3000K left, according to the Ford techie. The outside one is OK. Go figure....
Also, with hill-hold available, I have no idea how this works i.e. which wheels and which pads. Anyone able to shed some light on this ? (May account for uneven wear) |

I was thinking about the comments on high rear break wear. I remember reading somewhere that Fords way of making the PowerShift better at low speed was to hold it back with the brakes. If you have driven a VW DSG you would know of its GO, STOP, GO, STOP behaviour.
So the brake wear could be from driving around carparks dragging the rears. Just a thought.

So I got around to replacing my front rotors and pads today FINALLY!!!!
Ridex rotors and Bendix GCT pads. I've been annoyed with the brake dust on Motorcrafts pads and I had a terrible pedal pulsing/steering wheel shake for longer than I'd like and it's directly related to Bob Jane TMart and bloody impact wrench over tightening the nuts, flapping hell not happy. I had backed off all the nuts and retorqued them but damage were done. They are warped. I've got a trip coming up that were suppose to be today but the current rain and road blockages up here FNQ has see that postponed so took advantage of the free time and squared it away. The Ridex top hats are nicely machined and heavy, weren't hard to clean and fit well. Surprised to see there's no hardware in the carrier for the pad. Had a bit of a trying time fitting the spring clips on the pad backing to go inside the piston cup. They're just too far apart so used pliers to bend them closer together yet still retain a firm fit. Also took the opportunity to fit a new wheel arch (or wing panel) I still need to assess how it's gong further down the line but am happy it's no longer looking sad (well to me). Few GBP so thought why not as I were padding the order from the timing belt order. I also got a five drivers side Valeo wiper blades 26" and fitted one yesterday (again padding they were a couple of pounds so took advantage). It's so nice to have completely silent wipers. Pedal feels super nice just like how it should, thank god....Here's hoping dust is back to what I am use to with Bendix ceramic pads very light.

I had my MC wagon at the mechanic yesterday to have new tyres fitted and got a call to say my front brakes need doing. He was as little surprised as he hadn't noticed they were on the way out when servicing 7kkm ago. Maybe these wear faster than what he's used to.
$390 for new front rotors and pads, fitted. Seems reasonable to me. |

Wear rate depends on how often and at what speed the brakes are applied.
I use drill bits laid flat on the disc to check if under 2.0 mm, the specified minimum. I don't mind the sharp response of the factory brakes, just press a bit less. In an emergency brake (kangaroo), I try to remember to slam down as hard as I can and let ABS deal with it. The black dust doesn't bother me, I have black steel rims, which I prefer because the tyres are thicker. Last edited by rondeo; 16-03-2018 at 07:51 PM. Reason: addition |

Loving my front set, that creaking noise from creeping slowly stop/start...has gone. I thought it were from the rear but they're silent. Bite is gooooood, pedal feel great and consistent and no dust still, I'd have put the hose on them by now with the old lot.
Nice to have it in the best condition it's ever been in.

I don't know what I'm talking about either.
There are apparently 2 different sizes 13.8mm and 15.8mm "stud holes", sorry called them bolt holes, for discs. I thought it might have been "thread size", which are shown on spec sheets as 13,7 and 15.8. but the numbers don't match. One seller told me the 13.8mm sells the most. I imagine the "studs" mentioned were where the wheel nuts screw on. the holes on my current discs are closer to 13.8 than 15.8. Rondeo, says 16mm. Was really hoping that you, cobrin, might have had the answer as you have done your discs and have the zetec tdci-, like me. |

Given the thread size is M12x1.5 for wheel nuts. 13.8mm stud holes makes some sense. There is a margin of "play" between the hole and stud/bolt.
Rondeo, what holes did you measure? Last edited by Faolan; 26-05-2018 at 11:54 AM. Reason: Add |

I have the old discs from 2011 Zetec diesel in front of me.
The stud holes are 15.8mm on my vernier calipers. The replacements were the same. The studs don't take engine and braking torque, it's just the clamping force. The retaining screw is just for convenience. |

Spent the Arvo buying vernier calipers and measuring my stud holes... 13.8mm
I know they have been replaced previously, by Ford, there is a receipt in the logbook, without sizes. Guess the correct size is subjective. 2010 MC Zetec tdci |

these are the rotors I bought recently for my front:
https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/ridex/7999282 they were GBP$24 back then, padded the order with multiples of all filters, wiper blades (Valeo), a wheel arch and 4 brake hoses.

It's interesting that DBA 2128E rotors for Mondeo have no mention of hole size.
Shall purchase them. |

There's no mention of a retaining screw hole either on DBA 2128E.
I forgot to mention my 15.8mm stud hole discs were factory Ford and Ford supplied. FYI: 15.8 https://www.empoweredautoparts.com.a...front-disc-bra or 13.8: https://www.empoweredautoparts.com.a...front-disc-bra So I wonder why there is a choice. Last edited by rondeo; 27-05-2018 at 08:44 AM. |

Just to touch on that, one of my rears had its retainer bolt mangled from Ford. I had to drill it out to remove the rotor. I did get four new ones later on but never fitted them, don't think I will considering it's been years later and no ill affects. Worth mentioning is all.

Protex rotors are listed as:
13.8mm without retainer hole 15.8mm with retainer hole Looks like the answer. My 13.8 have no retainer hole. Last edited by Faolan; 01-06-2018 at 06:17 PM. Reason: Add |

I have just done front and rear rotors on 2 different MC's....both had 13.8mm stud rotors, though i have ended up with a new unfitted set of 15.8mm stud rotors (dont ask how!!). Free to good home...just have to pick up. PM me if interested. Live in Ringwood.
