Mate I feel that same when something like this occurs anywhere in this country.

The difference between the Australians, Kiwis, Poms and so on is mostly nobody takes it personally.

I know Indians, Italians, Poms, Kiwis Ect and we give each other crap occasionally and sometimes get a bit fired up at each other over it, then 5 minutes later we can be having a beer and laughing about it.

How many wars have Australia taken part In, Do we hold grudgers against all those people.

My old mans dad was in a German POW camp and my Dad’s mother survived the German Consternation camps> my old man doesn’t hold a grudge against Germany or the German people.

My late uncle was a POW on the Burma railway and survived, some of the stuff that the Jap’s did to him was horrendous but he didn’t hold a grudge against the Japanese people for it.

What ever happened, it didn’t happen to these people or affect there life, so why can’t they just Move On, like other people would have.

I'm sure the settlers and the aboriginals shook hands when they landed.

Just look at tasmania for example, aboriginals were just about made extinct. If that's not genocide then what is?

All i've got to say is people should look in there own backyard before they pass comments about other cultures and societies to which they know little about

Australia, the recognised country was born through the shaking of hands.

The Aboriginal deaths is not how we formed Australia.
Sure...it is part of Australian history, I don't discount that.
But I don't wake up in the morning feeling like I'm going to kill some indigenous Australians because I feel like it.

I see what mean regarding the country/modern country was formally acknowledged by the shaking of hands, but who's hands, of the "white man" english, while others have been living here for millions of years.

Same sorta goes for america and indiginious indians i guess.

Anyway, here's a funny pic to peruse

Whether we like it or not, if Australia had not been inhabited by the white man, the Aborigines would not be much further advanced.

The Australian Ford Falcon wouldn't exist, I would be living in the U.S most likely (grandparents were given a choice b/t U.S., Argentina or Australia) and Vegemite would be a myth.

As I said, some cultures have trouble moving on.

lolz saw that cartoon. I liked it.

I'd not blame say, a Sweedish person, for example, born in Australia, with both Sweedish parents, a Sweedish name and surname, for being loyal to Sweeden first, for example. Not only is it their right, many people believe in nationality and identity stemming from blood rather then the place they were born and/or reside in.

So THAT'S what I've been doing wrong.

My parents, grandparents etc. were born in the Ukraine, have Ukraine names, and all this time I've been in love with this **** country called Australia, when all this time I should be caring about a country who doesn't care for my existence while this **** country called Australia provides me with the best life I could hope for.

Well...I've learned a lesson.

You're taking things a little bit far, and acting like a child. Loving one's heritage does not mean disliking the country they live in. Would it be so impossible for you to love Australia yet be a Ukranian? Is that a difficult concept for you to grasp? It seems so.

And if you think Australia offers you the best possible life you could hope for, you're a bit out of touch with the world.

I feel no loyalty towards the Ukraine because Australia, the greatest country on Earth has provided me with safety, food, shelter and education.

Best life? Where else could I get International Football, Tennis, Basketball, Australian Rules Footy?

Where is a better place to live?

My heart will always be with Australia. I cannot deny my heritage, but I must also move on and realise that Australia is where my future lies. Therefore, I pledge my loyalty to Australia.

Australia is a country where its people have many material posessions and are well of in such a manner, but there is no real life. You work like a robot your whole life, 40+ hours a week, overtime, blah blah blah, and then retire and die. Where's the enjoyment of life? The happyness, the full life? Consumerism and materialism make up this country. It will be forever in Europe's shadow in terms of a truely fulfilling life, especially in countries like Italy, Spain, France (in France, for example they work 4 days a week, 3 days off) etc etc. Its an OK place, but world beating? Far from it.

Oh and all those things, you can watch on TV anywhere in Europe if you really want to.

Kinda on the Aboriginal topic.. What kinda irks me as well, is when these guys bring their crap over here and don't respect Australias own history.

I'm half Dutch, and very proud of that heritage, but it doesn't mean i've turned a blind eye on Australia's past at all. I'm quite interested in everything from Aboriginal culture to modern day politics.

If they don't want to take an interest in this country, and just want to bring their 'war' (even though community leaders and some people in their OWN countries are against it) here, then they can bugger off, whether they were born here or not.

I take it you havent been to Europe lately then Steffo? Cold, wet, dirty, cimre like we cant even begin to contemplate and race problems (that some choose to take here) that simply dont exist here. Europe has a great deal to offer, as a holiday destination. I am Irish, lived in London and have travelled, and there is nowhere else on Earth that provides the same quality of life as Australia. It isnt perfect, but there is nowhere better.

Where as its Hot, humid and dirty here. Cold and wet please. Also depends on the region of Europe, it has very diverse climate's.

Australia has all of Europe's race problems, people just refuse to acknowledge them. In fact, Australia has argueably WORSE problems then Europe in that department.

Last time I was in Europe was in 2000. My grandparents were there in 2005. And I'll be going there again later this year I hope.
