What do the other 10% do?? How do I get in that group?? LOL

You are essentially correct in that the rate is set by the government in consultation with the industry. At the moment there is a rate for SE Qld and a slightly higher rate for the rest of Qld, due to higher prices for EVERYTHING outside the SE corner.
The rates are only reviewed twice a year normally so the taxi fares wont go up overnight, you should have another few months until the LPG price rises and the carbon tax flow through.

This rise has been know about for years and was supposed to come in last year (I think) but got delayed due to the GFC or something.

Point is it is not a sudden moneygrab, just part of the continuos moneygrab.

The other 10% Jastel own a stinkload of licences that give them a stake that can steer the corrupt-at-the-top ship that is the taxi industry.
