what the hell is it doing going to bendigo????

got betterer luck getting an item from the UK directly!

At least they found and sent it on it's way.

Even stuff from China is being held up atm and senders are actually adjusting arrival times. I had something leave the warehouse get to docks and stay there for 4 weeks just sitting before continuing. I sent an email asking seller if it was lost but they just said wait and it duly arrived on time.

Ive got a stand mixer I paid for on 30/09/21 and I'm still waiting on Australia Post to deliver to me, Melbourne to Central VIC.

It's that Sunshine depot that's causing all our dramas.

I'm over traditional big box bricks and mortar stores who've thrown their hat in the ring online, these ****s keep using Australia Post, there's so many other courier services they could use.

It just reeks of laziness.

For the sake of experiment Ive got a 16KG carton on its way to Melbourne from Cairns via Startrack Express road freight, only cost $35 Inc GST - I'm curious to see how fast their private company gets me my goods.

For the sake of keeping on topic, it's taking me about a week to land goods in the UK from Melbourne via DHL International Express.

Agreed, I was quoted $112 for a smallish packet of photo paper samples, even the company sending it couldn't believe the price.

I ended up ordering a similar size sample pack from England....$7.43c. Posted on the 19th Oct but no tracking.

Good luck with Startrack, you might get it by Xmas.I have watched a Startrack van pull up at the front gate and the driver hop out and put a card in the mailbox saying couldn’t be delivered and to pick it up at the P.O

You didn't say which Xmas - hopefully by 2025

They're all junk at the moment, I've had Direct Freight 'Express' take 7 days to deliver something from Campbellfield to Preston.

They're like 'national driver shortage' and I'm like 'pay more money to drivers' - I bet there'd be no driver shortage if you paid decent coin to do your **** job and they had a modern and maintained fleet of trucks.

That **** with Startrack Express happens day in day out for me at work, send something air freight, week later they call me where's my ****, its at your local post office and its been sitting there for like a week bro - no card

Seems to happen only to the ones in regional areas from experience, once you go outside Melbourne metropolitan area then the post office trick happens left right and center.

Here's my stand mixer:

People sending stuff to me at work via Australia Post, its taking 4+ weeks to get what they sent me, it gets to the black hole at Sunshine then disappears - these people have cars/trucks on hoists waiting on parts to be manufactured from their samples.

Also there's about to be a massive increase in the price of air freight globally very soon, this may be why there's some crazy USPS prices being thrown about this thread.

Most likely so much extra parcels that they simply don't have enough drivers/trucks to deliver it.

Australia Post is whats going wrong - they've always been absolutely useless regardless of pandemics.

They just stopped picking up parcels from business in Melbourne for a few days a couple times to try 'manage' their depot.

Everyone is claiming 'driver shortage' but that's a cop out, there's no shortage of people willing to do the work, there's a shortage of people who will drive their old clapped out trucks for SFA.

I'd gladly drive trucks around, I saw Startrack advertising for HC drivers and they get paid less than I do, its a lot of responsibility and training costs for no reward.

Mind you I got something sent from Adelaide last night at 5PM and Startrack had delivered it to my customer in Maffra in regional VIC already this morning - so there's some Australia Post group wins, just never from their retail side.

2 days later and she's made it to and also departed from Brisbane - on schedule I should see it on Monday next week if normal road freight times are adhered to, if not, Tuesday is a public holiday here so likely Wednesday next week.

Lets see how this turns out.

Another incidental benchmark, item posted 16/11 in Kaunas, Lithuania - arrived 25/11 on my doormat in Sydney metro.

This time, Melbourne and Sydney sourced orders placed on the same day arrived sooner - but the subject part was still quick and best value (camshaft variator rebuild kit).

I've had no issues at all getting stuff delivered via AusPost.

I get there is some issues going on with them.
Had a new laptop delivered to work via star track.
Dispatched from Sydney on Wednesday, delivered yesterday.
One is still in Sydney.

Speaking of international freight.
I have some Lego coming from Portugal ordered 9/11 dispatched 10/11, nothing since.
Had some more Lego come from the Netherlands took about 16 days.

Is there a genuine problem with outbound freight to UK/Europe at present? Or is it just something Oz Post have managed to “achieve”. Or are we just a tragically small blip in terms of outbound parcels compared to incoming?

Flights overall seem up, there is plenty of air freight incoming - you’d think that generated reciprocal capacity.

The capacity on flights outbound is being taken by passengers & their luggage.

I can understand that on passenger flights, but what about dedicated cargo - have long been under the impression we are “import heavy”? Are Australia Post simply unwilling to haggle a deal with other carriers?

Commenting because the difference is highlighted by consistently decent times for inbound air parcels vs slow departures.

Probably the worst incoming timeline so far that I’ve experienced in recent transactions, is air parcels from Latvia. Compared to Lithuania, about triple the days.

A bit off-topic but not totally unrelated: what is the situation with GST or any other tax being imposed here on incoming parcels? It's a long time since I have had stuff from O/S but I need to order some parts from the UK.

O/S businesses that sell direct into Australia, over a certain annual threshold, are now required to register for GST in Australia and collect GST from the customer at the point of sale (for items under $1000 AUD). If they're selling through a platform e.g. eBay then eBay would handle that process.

For other imports the $1000 AUD threshold still applies, under $1000 and GST / duty isn't applicable, over $1000 and GST / duty is charged to the importer.

Wooden spoon contender here.

Economy parcel post (airmail, not surface) Riga-Sydney. Transit time 45 days, verified by postmark. Contrasts poorly with Lithuania.
