Passed a new Pathfinder today, IMO it would tick most of the boxes for a Territory owner.

Separate chassis offroad capable Everest should do well - diesel power and sturdy construction. |

Well it's all relative isn't it? It will be very fun compared to the 3.5L V6. It will be boring as hell compared to a GT500. But if your wife was going to make you get one of these things, you better tick the 2.7L option.

The Separate chassis offroad capable IMO are all pretty similar, Kakadu offers a little more but has a healthy price tag to match

Why aren't we getting Explorer in Oz? Seems a better replacement for Territory. I need the extra room up back.

I would never own a car that uses CVT.

Didn't realise that they had that, I've never driven a car with CVT but I hear it feels weird, like a constant slipping clutch

very quick calculations, SZ / Edge (mm) Front head room 1074 / 1021 Front leg room 1122 / 1080 Front shoulder room 1548 / 1530 Front hip room 1525 / 1420 2nd row leg room 1015 / 1031 2nd row head room 1006 / 1023 volume behind 2nd row/rear seat: 1153L / 1110L back seat hip room isn't listed on Ford's site but if it's the same as front hip room this is where the Territory is a much better by over 100mm.

In our case, where a car like Edge, with only slightly smaller interior than our SZ, won't make a huge difference to us. It's the dynamic brilliance of the SZ I would miss if the Edge isn't as good. For those that find the Territory boot doesn't have the length of the Falcon wagons the Everest will cover this and also provide serious off road ability. Ford might not sell as many Edge's as Terry's but between Edge and Everest combined will increase their total sales obviously and judging by the success of Ranger, when Ford's local team has a go with a world-sized budget they product world class vehicles.

As Everest will be developed to be more capable off-road then that requires more $$ which means higher RRP. The beauty of the Tez is that most family just require the occasional "off road" experience...Everest will be overkill and the Edge wont cut it either. Point in case is the Ranger...pretty sure its just about the most expensive in its class. Sure its a quality vehicle but it makes the sales pitch that much harder. Can you imagine the sales the Cherokee would have if it had a 7 seat option? It would smash the Tez and the Kluger..and hurt the Prado aswell. Its depressing driving past a GMH dealership and seeing the Craptiva 7 at sub $30k. Sure its not flash..but for most families it does the A-B stuff.

If this makes its way to Australia, like Polyal said, it will smash it out of the park!
To me, in terms of size and market, the Edge is very much like the CX7. Theres a reason why Mazda stopped making them over the CX5 and the CX9. In saying that, Jeep have done very well even though its a 5 seater only option, so who knows. If the pricing is right and the Edge proves itself to be a good value product, it might do well. I still think leaving the 7 seater option for the Everest only will leave quite a big hole in the product line up |

No doubt the Edge will be a great drive (its a Ford!) but like you said it has big shoes to fill in terms of the driving dynamics, which is why the Tez is as close to a 'drivers car' in an SUV as you can get. For a reasonable price anyway.

Front looks like Kluger, back looks like ASX. Too short in the reader to make it a decent 7 seated. Needs that extra 100 mm and a diesel + 7 seat option to be a true replacement.

China is getting a 3rd row 7 seater version, but I doubt we would see it here.

It is disappointing there won't be a 7-seater version, maybe this would happen with the next gen Explorer? Maybe they are saving the Territory name for that, seeing as the Explorer name is a bit tarnished in Australia. |

We've just updated and traded our 2009 Terri Ghia on a Titanium Diesel.
The 7-seat feature is really important to us; we're 5 in the family but sometimes if the girls bring a friend along or we take my parents with us the extra 2 seats in the rear are fantastic. They may be "auxiliary" seats but they work a treat as the girls are young (small) and my wife is a small build, so no problems there. Terri is a fantastic driving and riding vehicle; the 2009 model was great but this is definitely a step up, seems a more refined car on the inside. It'll do us for the next 5 years!

We had great service out of our 2007 AWD Ghia to the tune of over 150,000 trouble free kilometres, and I would go Territory again, but other half feels they are a bit too big for them sometimes, thus the slightly smaller class leading (they have already sold more than 10,000 of them in Australia this year) Mazda CX5 looks a little more likely to get the nod. If Edge was out now it would get a very close look in too as it looks okay, a good middle ground between CX5 and Territory in regards to size. Personally, I would go Territory again as I like the handling on our roads, would be Territory in a heartbeat with FG Spec turbo engine (which is so much better than we saw in earlier Turbo Territory in regards to everything including economy). How are you finding the diesel? Did you drive the updated 4.0 too?

Hi Trev,
We were very happy with our AWD Ghia; pretty much trouble free over the almost 5 years we had it. Two warranty items were picked up by the dealer and I changed the front discs and pads last year. I only took an AWD diesel for a drive as I prefer the AWD; I "feel" AWD is more safe when driving in heavy rain and on slippery roads. It's not as nippy off the mark but I like the torque when accelerating on to the motorway. We've only had the new one for a week or so but it rides and handles as good as the old girl and feels more tight, probably more so from the newness. The diesel is very quiet and the steering, being electrically assisted is much quieter. My old one always seemed to have a noisy pump! The interior is a step up and the wife reckons it seems bigger inside which is because of the new dash. The seats have a different leather facing which I think will not crease as easily as the old car. The ABS also seems differently calibrated in this one; a couple of annoying little graunches don't seem to afflict the new one. We loved the old Ghia and we love the new one; they're a pretty basic motor vehicle but for an essentially 10 year old platform I think it's amazing what Ford Australia have achieved. I believe the last model will not be much changed externally over the SZ but will have a few more tech features inside. All I really wanted was keyless entry and start but the deal was pretty good on this one (big bonus from Ford plus 3 years free scheduled servicing) seeing it was the end-of-financial-year so I took the plunge.

Yep your thoughts on the ABS will also carry through to the traction control system too I think as the new generation of this kit I think first made it to the new Territory before it made it to FG MK II Falcon, and it is not one step forward, but a few steps forward to latest generation stuff. Big improvement.

I'm not really sure it does here either, perhaps for someone doing high mileage like yourself or for towing. but otherwise I think they sell on peoples perception. I'm guessing here but the cost for Ford Australia to develop and produce the diesel Territory. did not meet the rewards. and IMO that's why Toyota and Nissan wont bother to develop them.
