On paper (so to speak) theres only one answer, well for those of us with early FPV offerings commonsense would point to them going and the Mustang staying in the shed but when it comes to cars/motorcycles theres a few other things to factor in for some of us and they at times defy all commonsense i guess if had i grown up being influenced by an old man mucking about with Mustangs instead of putting 351 Clevelands into XYs etc etc then there would be one in the shed as good as they are, whilst ive in the past owned some nice old Falcons a lack of foresight/money blah blah saw them moved on many moons ago,an XYGT or any other X series GT is far beyond this fellas budget so in the shed sits a much loved BA GT-P with all its supposed flaws its a GT Falcon and i guess a link to the past commonsense or not.The Mustang would go if indeed i was lucky enough to have one in the shed beside the Falcon. No doubt madness to some but would be a very easy decision for me personally.

Not yet but will certainly have a look......thanks RBM.

Not having to worry about shipping it and road worthy makes it more enticing too unlike a mainland example.

That's bloody nice.

I really like the contrasting interior to the subtle exterior. (for an FPV)

For me when it came time to move my g6e turbo on for a replacement daily, I went for a mustang and worked out my trade in price etc, but in the end could not do it and went for the GS with the Miami,
Guess having 2 miami's sorta clarify's my choice .

And to be honest, I think that for cars developed on a shoestring, and built in almost boutique numbers in an antiquated factory, I think FoA and FPV did a bang-up job.
Well said. They will all have a special place in our hearts.

But time moves on. And the Mustang is all we have now in terms of v8 magic.

Have driven BF F6s and then everything FG onwards and currently own a FN Mustang.

IMO, Falcons have better seats than a Mustang with the stock seats. Get the recaro option in a Mustang and they are a level above the Falcon seats again.

Sound wise, put a FNs exhaust into sport or race track mode, and the thing sounds awesome for a stock car. Way better than anything from FPV.

Handling wise, a stock Mustang handles better than a Falcon but I believe it has a lot to do with the Michelin PS4S tyres. Magnaride really improves the handling of a Mustang.

In terms of braking, I found them to be really similar.

Engine wise, the gen 3 coyote is a cracker, but so is the Barra and Miami. All fantastic but they are very different from one to another.

Having had two zf cars before this, I found the 10 speed to be a revelation.

Tech wise, Mustang is so far ahead of the Falcon but that is to be expected with the age of the Falcon.

All in all, I've found the Mustang to be a far better car than the Falcon but it's to be expected from a newer platform that has had the $$$ put in to it to make it as good as it can be. The Falcon was as good as Ford Australias limited budget allowed it to be.

Well I don't have either but if I had to choose, it would be FPV all the way.

I don't see a world where Mustangs don't exist but there are definitely no more FPVs coming.

This is a really good thread, thanks to all those with experience of both. Kypez thanks for all the observations from the track, that was great.

I seem to pick mine up when they are old and then try to preserve them while enjoying them for what they were.

Mustang sounds to be a worthy progression. I do love that supercharger whine however...

Thanks Sprintey.

Reason I started the the thread as firstly, I don't own either, and secondly, I wasn't sure which I'd pick if given the choice!

Especially to get those who own to share experiences, I wish.

Clearly the replies suggest that. Just a positive discussion.

I'm guessing the Mustang does have "fake" calipers?

Still cool mate. I'd buy the first over second - front bumper looks so wrong imo.

If it was now with still a few years to work yet think I'd go FPV ...Then the decision would be an F6 or a V8 . I'd be really torn because both have great reasons to choose them .

If all's well when retirement comes a Mustang V8 if they're still available in 2025/26) will be very highly likely and it'd be a brand new one so I can get a car with as close to my personal choice as possible ...

As so often happens in life, dreams become impacted by reality.

One thing that was always going to be a factor, is that technology will favour the Mustang. I have not tormented myself by looking too closely yet, but I would imagine that already the Mustang outstrips the Falcon.

Then of course there's age. There will for the foreseeable future be new (and near-new) Stangs, but the Falcon just keeps getting older. Sadly too, its amazing (and horrifying) how many people bought one of the iconic Falcons then proceeded to flog the crap out of it. I'm all for enjoying what you've got, rather than locking it in storage, but some look like they've been used as taxis.

But perhaps the most bizarre determinant in this debate will be price.
Despite predictions to the contrary, the prices being demanded for decent examples of the local product have not slackened, and with more and more Mustangs coming onto the market, they are already starting to undercut the locals on price.

FPV for me. Grew up with aussie performance cars, we built some good ones and we built some crap ones. Never cared for the yank mustang and still don't, but i prefer seeing them than another soft roader

Neither in my garage anymore...
If I had to choose now it would be Mustang. Styling , tech and a more focused car for intended purpose. The good thing here is that as more and more of these hit the road, there will be plenty of good examples available on the second hand market in years to come with good parts availability and after market mods and tuning.

Mustang is the go for me.

Ive had a few FPV's and will be buying a Mustang next. They drive better and attract way more attention, plus you can buy a brand new one for the same dollars as what alot of people are asking for FPV's that are nearly 10 years old with no warranty.

I'm 187cm tall. No issue getting in and out. However you do need to open the door quite a fair bit to swing legs in and out of car. Can be difficult in a tight car park. Otherwise no problems.

I need 4 doors and plenty of interior space and boot space so Mustang no go for me. Very happy with Sprint 6 including seat height, interior and especially the performance. Have driven many other cars including European, Holdon, etc. for comparison. Only about 5,000km per year so Sprint will last me for a long time until I fall off the perch!

If I had a mustang and an F6.
I'd kick the mustang to the kerb and keep the F6 all day every day.

I am over 190cm and the other side of 45 have no issues with the Mustang.
You sort of have to climb down into them, and climb up out of them compared to Falcon it feels, but I have no issues. The seat is closer to the road.
It would only be if you had some kind of back or leg issues you would have a problem.
I know it has been said a million times but for a tall b@st@rd I wish the Falcon's Steering Wheel was 10 - 20mm higher. You can hook you legs under the wheel if you jump in carelessly. Mine isn't an FPV but I think the seat / wheel space is the same as the BA Series.

Default Re: Mustang or FPV Falcon

Having owned a BOSS 335 and now the FN Mustang, I'd have to pick the 'Stang because it does everything just a little better than the Falcon and that's simply because they are no longer being made.

My heart is still in the FPV but there is no denying the two cars have always had a close association with each other from the very beginning... eg. Ford Australia marketed the new XR Falcon's as "Mustang Bred" and you can clearly see the classic Mustang lines in the side profile.

Fast forward to today and since 2010, every V8 powered FPV has had a Mustang block in them. Yes, there is nothing like Aussie muscle but let's not forget that while Moffat helped seal the legendary status of the '71 GT-HO Phase III's at Bathurst, he also piloted a '69 BOSS 302 and won 2 out of every 3 races in it with the angry 5.0 beating cars with big block engines.

BOSS 335 vs GEN3 Coyote...

The Miami runs 9.2:1 compression and 8psi of peak boost to make 500hp @ 5900rpm whereas the Coyote has 12:1 compression and makes around 480hp @ 7000rpm from the factory. The Miami obviously has more torque but the Mustang's 10-speed auto makes up for this... just to show you how short the 10R80 gears are.. where the 6-speed ZF in the FPV can reach 165kph at the top of 3rd, the Mustang does this at top of 4th.

Handling...

The Mustang is just a level above the FPV here with a better sorted chassis and suspension (especially with Magneride) and stickier Michelin tyres but to be fair to the FPV, it is a 4-door sedan carrying an extra 120kg with a higher centre of gravity. The FPV's have better steering feel than the Mustang's electric setup though

Cabin space...

The FPV wins this especially when it comes to carrying your mates in the back seats. The Mustang's rear seats are only good for people under 5' 8" but the boot space is comparable with 408 litres vs the Falcon's 535 litres. Front seat space in the Mustang is decent for a sports car with lots of headroom.

Interior Tech...

From Sync 3, digital dash, radar cruise control to the indicators sounding like a galloping horse, the Mustang wins this round. Loading my entire music library onto a tiny USB drive beats having to use a 16GB iPod and having to pick and choose what I can listen to in the FPV.

Exhaust noise...

This will be subjective but stock for stock, the FN Mustang is so well sorted from the factory in track mode, that I'm actually leaving mine as is whereas 2 weeks after owning my GT, I had disconnected the bi-modal and replaced the centre muffler with a 4.5" resonator. The reason the GEN3 Coyote sounds so good is partly due to the high compression and 7400rpm redline.

You can listen to mine here.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXvH5dAiNfM

Another plus for the Mustang is the fuel consumption... 10.9 vs 13.5L/100km for the FPV driving in the same conditions.. so even with a 10% smaller tank, the Mustang has more range (560km vs 504km) than the Falcon.

One last thing... they are both GT's and they are both Ford's !

I don’t know why but I feel very little for mustang, it’s a terrific looking car but being fully imported just makes it feel like everything else. It’s has no connection with anything or anyone Australian. Just feels like a toaster or a fridge from China.

Driving the F6 around was a sort of like holding up the Aussie flag driving past maybe someone who helped build or design them was a great feeling all round.

Gone to the dark side now HSV because their Aussie built offering gives me a similar feeling and they look and go alright too, my blood will always run blue though.
