Likewise the exterior.

They both look ok , but positioning of the speedo looks a bit suspect on the mondeo, put your hands on the wheel , it looks like you have to curl your head around a bit or drop one hand to see a 100 k`s, its a small gripe , but never the less, the speedo is the most looked at instrument, the mondeo binnacle colors looks prettier.
comes with free binoculars to see that the tiny clock in the centre dash .
personal choice really,

i think id go the camry .

That speedo is in MPH. You wouldn't have any difficulty reading the speedo unless you're doing 100MPH.

In any event, both the seat and the steering wheel are adjustable, so I think that issue can be overcome.

Ah.... ok, good pick up , i did not think it would have a 160 mph speedo being a diesel, but there you go.

I like the Mondeo dash, it looks much better than what we have in the current gen Mondeo.

Well, post #25 compares it to the Mazda, maybe the closer shot on the Mondeo is unflattering; nevertheless it has the silver plastic centre console surround that was new in 2003 on the BA and VY. Centre console itself looks very flat (buttons are flat) and austere, much like the Golf 7 but without its straight lines of demarkation with the rest of the dash. The wheel looks nicer than the FG, but that's not saying much. It looks noughties in the teens. Previous euro Ford dashes have done the Nokia theme which was cool in 2006 but got iPhoned out of existence pretty quick.

Scroll up to the Mazda and maybe it's the shot, or the trim level, or the light, but it looks a class above. Piano black finish around the recessed screen, darker rich reds around the air vents, restrained use of chrome throughout. HVAC controls with easily understandable colours, chrome controls coming out of a black background. Nice. Not as blue instruments however. But if I had to sit in one for a prolonged period of time, I'd take the Mazda.

But yeah, as said before, if you like it then it's for you. The market sales and resale will show the truth.

Isn't it amazing how everyone sees things differently.
When I look at the Mazda picture I'm very underwhelmed by the standard 2-din touchscreen stereo. It looks to me like it was bought from Supercheap auto or Autobarn. The Mondeo on the other hand looks classier to me with its bigger integrated screen.
I do like the Mazda steering wheel better though.
I guess that's why there is so much choice out there hey.

I just wish Ford Aus had specced the touch screen in the Mk4. Mine doesn't even have USB let alone a touch screen. The UK ones have had them for years.

Having seen the wagon now I would say...

Best looking wagon under $60k

Fantastic looking wagon for a base model.

No.
Alfa 4C on the other hand...

me like the behind.
Car not bad either.

$89k landed, but the order board might now be measured in years for oz.
and I'd want the headlights from the targa....
Italians, design beautifully, manufacturing? not so much...

Agreed, 4C looks fantastic.
But it doesn't have 4/5 seats nor can fit half a cubic metre of luggage......realities of family life.

------
Current modern drive: Mondeo XR5 MB 2.5T
Next modern drive: Something smaller - kids have moved out now
Older drives: assorted....

I saw the new Mondeo today for the first time at the dealer - it was a Frozen White Trend Ecoboost hatch. Looks very sleek, particularly with that steeply sloping rear end. It was parked right next to an MC Zetec Ecoboost hatch, and the contrast couldn't be more stark. I do think it is one of the best looking cars - if not one of the best looking <$100k, then definitely close to one of the best looking under $50k.

The boot is a bit smaller than the old model and quite a bit shallower, but the new Mondeo has a full size spare while the old one had a space saver.

The driver's seat was extremely comfortable, but the back seat is noticeably more cramped than my Fairmont, though. I'm only 172cm tall, but when I sat in the back, I was within 5mm of touching the roof. The old Mondeo was slightly better. Other than that, the interior quality and styling are significantly better than the old model. It feels more solid too - the doors close with a resounding 'thunk'.

I had a look at one the other day. I think they're the ducks guts!! Look friggin' awesome. Love the interior. Better than the FG-X interior which is more or less 6 years old. I wont buy an FG-X because of the old interior (dam that tiny budget Ford had to spend). But I also wont buy a Mondeo because they don't have a manual option. 177kw turbo with a manual gearbox........yes please! They sell all the models in the U.K. with a manual, why not here? If you want a sporty Ford sedan when Falcon is gone, what do they have? Nothing! Not putting my family in a Focus ST.

Once Falcon and Commodore are gone there wont be any manual 'sporty' sedans left.

Oh and you're incorrect regarding the manual being available on all models in the UK.
Only the 1.5 Ecoboost and the TDCi engines can be had in manual.
