The common theme in Belial's pictures seems to be "Made in Australia from Local & Imported ingredients". No flour, yeast & water in Australia?

This, just because it is frozen doesnt mean every store gets them.
Perhaps i should post up a method sheet or production sheet to prove otherwise. Could do the same for the meat dept aswell Belial, im not having a go at you bud, just setting the record straight is all

We have 3 Woolies and 1 coles here. 2 of the Woolies have in store bakery's and I have seen the guys going to work at 3am to begin baking and knew one guy who did it. The other woolies and the coles have no bakery and sso it is carted in. However this is yet another reason I stay away from coles http://www.watoday.com.au/business/c...701-2p6my.html I know woolies would be as bad, but it is not often you see woolies in the media having misled the the public.

Don't be fooled buy this guy, he is only in it for the money, which he makes very little out of and rams this patriotism rubbish down our throats only to try and improve sales. I have respect for Dick and some of the things he has done, but the rubbish he now produces in the food industry is making him look like an idiot. As for Aussie made...your local icon SPC is a good example; the beans in their baked beans is from the USA, the IXL jam fruit/concentrate is from South America, and I noticed some 1Kg peach & pear packs sneaked onto the shelves from Spain this year. As far as I'm concerned auto check outs were a boon for me. You were getting a heap of check-outs with no one staffing them so why not let technology do the job like it is for all the other jobs that people don't want to do any more? Should keep the sugar industry in business too seeing it is nearly a fifth (buy weight) in carbs (half of this in sugar). I wonder if its Australian sugar?

Barnaby, I could call you names, it is people like you that are sending Australia backwards.
So you would rather buy a French jam rather than a locally grown, owned and produced jam, well you should hold you head high as a patriotic Australian - FFS What the **** would you know about SPC? I am not defending them at all, they are owned by Coca Cola and have recently devastated their local area, was it the farmers fault, NO, was it SPC's fault, in the most part NO, why? because of a 13 year drought when the farmers couldn't produce and secondly because of people like you are not buying locally produced canned fruit . SPC is a local cannery, beans have NEVER been grown in their local area. They have been importing fruit for years, in case you didn't know it fruit is seasonal but buyers want it all year round. I really can't be bothered responding to your dribble any further. BTW, you are on my 'ignore' list now so go your hardest I don't have to read your posts

Jam is sugar. Fructose is sugar. It's found in fruit,.and is labelled as sugar on ingredient listings. I'm confused as to what the issue is.....

It WAS the farmers fault because it was a co-operative. They put themselves into a position where they let a minority hold majority share holdings and then they were targeted and they sold out to interests that wanted to list it publicly. The farmers in the Ardmona co-op did the same thing. Have a look at Fonterra, the Kiwi farmers are making us look like idiots because their fighting to keep their co-op together because they know if they loose control of their manufacturing they will lose control of the price they get for their product...anything sound familiar there with our farmers? I don't buy jam, but if I did I'd buy St. Dalfour and so would you if your only choice was between the two! (or choose to buy none...DS foods is inedible) They country is going backwards because people like you who fight change at every turn and do nothing but keep talking about the good old days. |

I really don't think it matters what type of jam anyone buys. Really, we all have our reasons
I get the homemade stuff at the farmers market. same with my peanut butter (which is basically just peanut paste and ever so delicious). in fact. I'm having a peanut butter sandwich for desert.

The DS foods & St Dalfour are both "spreadable fruit" so they don't have refined sugar (sucrose) in them. As Lotte pointed out in a previous post, they do have fructose in them and heaps of it.

I go to town every couple of months for training, the wife comes with me of course, everytime we come within coo--ee of Hahndorf a visit to the strawberry farm (Beerenberg) is a must.
watch the jams, spreads and sauces getting made while we browse......cant leave without a bootload of gear. there is also a largish market just on the southern side of Hahndorf we visit as well for all fruit and veggies, cant beat dealing with the growers and or manufacturers.... used to be great swags of roadside markets from Gawler almost to elizabeth some years ago, sadly they are gone.....we could never go past them. very popular places.

Not exactly on topic but related non-the-less.
The modern diet contains far too much sugar and seed oils, and commercially made foods are largely to blame. David Gillespie, best-selling author of Sweet Poison and Toxic Oil, explains why and how these ingredients are damaging our health and how to avoid them. http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/cook/good-v-bad-navigating-the-supermarket-aisle-20130701-2p69b.html

we grow a lot of our own vegies & fruit, with most being heirloom types so rarely seen in markets. I like to catch my own fish when I can. My cousins are farmers so occasionally get some mutton from them. Otherwise I try to shop at Franklins (now IGA) - Coles & WW (esp WW) are removing choice from their shelves & replacing brands with their own brands, usually sourced or produced overseas.

The Woolworths that I shop at has recently removed Duracell Batteries from the shelves and if you do a google on it Woolworths claim that there was no difference between the two, so for "your" benefit (what a load of excreta) they discontinued Duracell. Why is it that I think this move was solely for Woolworths benefit by reducing brand competition. Maybe I should start shopping at Coles - why would I believe that they are any better

Both Coles and Safeway (Woolworths) have taken Cedel toothpaste off their shelves in recent times, Cedel is an Aussie brand, IGA still carry it
