You could tell the V8SC management were getting worried at the start of the race where it ran green for 40 or so laps. It was become like a procession as it usually is. But them KAZAM!!! They pulled a safety car out for DEBRIS! For what looked like a coke can off the racing line!!!

Ahhhhhhhhh artificial racing.. gone the way of NASCAR

Anyone who watched the Singapore Grand Prix may remember Timo Glock lost a chunk off his car which fell onto the track and there was no safety car. They just sent a marshall out to pick it off the track!

Pretty ordinary race for ford !!!If you take Lowndes and Whincup out of it (because they will be with holden next year)the first ford to finish was ninth. Now that can't be good for the sport!!

Theirs no passing because everything is so equal.

What more can we ask for in a race.

The yellow car provided means for more passing and dont you agree made the race more exciting.

You win your safety cars and sometimes you loose them and thats something Tander has had no shortage off.

Very deserving win from a very disciplined driver.

thats the sad part

id like more passing like the old toranas getting ahead in the bends then being overtaken down the straight by the falcons, variety is never a bad thing

Yep back to old days when Brocky won by 6 laps..
Heaps of passing ?? Yea..By one driver or team in a sports sedan compared to rest of field..
It got boring when the major Ford runners dropped out..

Brock was a great driver, and he knew how to set up a car. If the car was better, good for him.

I agree with alot of the post, back when bathurst was GREAT it was holden vs Ford Torana vs GT as you could buy them from the dealer.
I did'nt see a 5.4lt GT out there anywhere, it has become to controlled.
888 just need a new body to fit over the roll cage because under that they are all the same.

I bought my GT because that is what i grew up with, I would not buy one based on todays race cars.

at least now they do look like a falcon or a commode

Boring? Well I did the right thing today.

Years gone by I used to be fixed to the screen all day because anything could happen at any second, and it did. There was no safety car, so Larry or whoever could build up a lead and not lose it again because of a SC. Then there was the time when Glenn Seton with 9 laps to go had a valve failure while in the lead. Back then the mechanical reliability was dependent on the skill of the individual racing team, unlike today where the engines etc are built by a handful of teams, so they are mostly the same reliability, also nothing like the road cars that you can buy from the dealers.

So today when I got home at 4.30pm after doing my thing all day, I didnt miss much at all. All leading cars were still one behind the other with six laps to go, so watched the race from there.

Seemed to be just like a normal 40 lapper race rather than a grueling 161 lap race. No point anymore sitting in front of the screen wasting a Sunday.

when did this actually happen amongst the leaders
moff had 70 under control by the 3rd lap, moff had 71 under control about 3 metres up mountain straight for the first time, the rain made 72 competitive. 73 only came alive because the leader was involved in a crash. 74 because the lead car stopped when 6 laps ahead. 75 was a case of the slowest of the fastest 3 finished without a problem. 76 was just lucky moff stopped when miles ahead and the rest of the torana's tried to lose it for the second half. 77 was over by lap 5. 78 was over at the same time. 79 was over by the first turn. 80 was over once the rock did it's job etc. etc.
the only truly exciting race 70-80's was 81 and even that sorted itself out by lap 20 or so

none of those races were exciting for passing or anything. the only thing that made them remotely exciting was incidents - a bit like today really. but the difference is today's incidents create excitement, be it artificial or not. at least now days, no one knows who will win for sure until the last few laps. in the good old days, without a mechanical, the winner was virtually guaranteed long before half distance

i am not saying it is necessarily better or worse now - but at least at present, we have the most well funded, best presented and most competitive cars we have ever had. the rose coloured glasses lie, when watching a highlights package. if the editors cannot get 10 exciting minutes out of 6 1/2 hours, then something is wrong

What is aussie about the cars? The engines come direct from detroit, so what would the difference be if a German engine was used? Everything else would still be Aussie.

Edit: and we've already established that the cars have nothing to do with our Aussie road cars, so whether it has an Aussie badge or not is irrelevant.

Nothing...

It is about the tribes.

State of Origin football has very little to with football and a lot to do with interstate rivalries.

V8SC must be pretend holden and pretend ford because these two bogan tribes hate each other and this is their field of battle.

If there were any other tribes or either ford or holden pulled out it would be like NRL State of Origin, NSW vs Fiji......who would care....

I have watched every lap of every Bathurst since 1976 (excpet for ads etc)
Some track side, most on tv.

ITs funny the amount of people who cry for the olden days, when there was more passing etc. most of them are too young (Ok not all!) and are going by some 10 minute highlight reel they have seen. Summarise modern Bathursts into a 10 minute reel and it would be even better.

BAck then there was generally ony 3 or 4 cars really capable of winning most years. Msot years you knew who would win in September! There were prob only 10 cars in "V8" class and half of htem were dungers. 1977 Moff/bond had won all but one race all year. holden werent in it. Come bathurst it was only a question of how much by. 1978-81 the opposite applied. Ford couldnt win a chook raffle.

I did like the variety of cars and drivers, but the amount of cheating, post race appeals and exlusions. Brocks last win was awarded something like 4 weeks after the race!

Also cant help but laugh at teh amount of people who said "Its boring, i only watched a bit" ... Um if youdidnt watch it, how do you know if it was boring. FOr gods sake its an enduro nota 2 lap demo derby.I wonder if you ever read a book with chapters? Things unfold.

THat dice for 3rd this afternoon on last lap was classic.

I dont get passionate about it any more. ITs jstu aprofessional sport with purpose built "sillhoutte" cars. but its a fun waay to waste a day or two.

IF you want cars clsoer to production, you want classes and variety. GET ut to bathurst mid Feb. Vote with your feet and your wallet. Dont slump at your pc and whine.

I will see youthere!

I wonder if Holden paid lowndes to rub in pit lane early in the race?
They may have won if he didn't do that.

12 hour is competitive motor racing, it really only appeals to motor racing enthusiasts, people who race or follow amateur and/or professional motor racing at different levels and there are not very many of them really.

Like Polo, IPSC, Netball, Triathalon, or any of the other hundreds if not thousands of sports played, only the true enthusiasts have more than a passing interest.

Volleyball, boring...... but stick the competitors in tiny costumes and put it on the beach.... BEACH VOLLEYBALL....a MUST SEE... who cares about the game.

V8SC is a television mini series, it is entertainment for the masses.
