My ping is worse than it was on 1.5 and it takes longer to browse.

The only benefits are from file downloads.

Not only that, the speed changes from 5mbps-9mbps so it's also unreliable.

As fast as that speed seems to you, it's terrible. Australia gets crap speeds compared to the rest of the world.

With ADSL generally the faster your speed the worse your pings are this is partly due to interleaving (1.5 mbit and slower does not use interleaving by default). If your ISP offers it try some different line profiles preferably one with interleaving disabled. Of course downloads will suffer slightly.

I know you may have heard this before, but comparing one countries Internet to anothers is not really possible. Check out the population density in other countries compared to Australia. The size of this country is a limiting factor.

As for your Internet, I didn't look at your ping sorry. You should have explained why you felt your Internet was poor. What modem you using? Have you got filters set up properly in the house?

For my modem, I have made a telephone cable out of cat5e cable, and this actually improved my sync speed over the generic telephone cable I was previously using.
