I kind of know the bloke who built this , Simon Handby would be a lot like your brother I guess ..This is one of his projects where he needed to make pretty much everything as nobody really makes Tasmanian railway stuff off the shelf .

Interesting story about the station is that as Simon is good friends with the curator /owner of our Cranks and Tinkerers Museum and that's our former railway station that was saved from demolition , he used the building to calculate an extremely accurate replica of the Fingal station because all Tassie stations were built to the same plans .

He was there one day when I was at the museum and he gave me some insight on what he's done ..Not only this of course ..other more modern era depictions as well , just as accurate .. As it turns out the Fingal station was eventually saved as well and is now used by the Fingal township as a history room . Safely say Simon has a major distraction .

Aquariums and terrariums are a big distraction for me. I can switch off and stare at them for hours.
I used to keep fish honestly was more interested in the landscape aspect of the tanks so I changed it up and now just focus on aquascape with real plants grown under lights.

I have noticed terrariums and indoor plants have come back into fashion over the last couple of years. Even the 1970's style pots and macrame hangers have become popular.

I suspect with more and more living in apartments with no gardens, people are growing plants indoors to get their green fix.

In the finish I reckon he was 80% aircraft and he and a German immigrant started an model aircraft club known as The East Coast Flyers with a pretty good membership .

You're a legend mate .. I dip my lid to you for looking after these amazing creatures . They were once maligned as being a limited breed good for only one thing when the opposite is really the case . They are really intelligent and are one of the best for re homing I believe .. Thanks for caring and I hope he's feeling much better soon . My Border Collie went through a really risky operation in January and she is much better now .. How do you manage his food given the loss of so many teeth ..He's in great hands ...

You are so right and you all know I'm a You Tube junkie these days and one of my favourite topics is remote control even though I don't do it myself . In Europe it's MASSIVE .....

Stuff like this with construction equipment and they run huge meets , mostly in Austria and Germany ..pay close attention to fine detail in some of the close up shots .

Many of these items are really expensive , take lots of time to build and to operate really proficiently I'm told but it's a true passion . I guess the really big meets are off across Europe right now so I suppose there's a lot of that building going on ..

24th scale especially is pretty substantial ..Do they do these in even bigger scale like 1:18th.. How many have you done since you started because like all great hobbies the term 'addicted' soon starts being said .

One of my retired workmates who owns a gorgeous red FG ll XR 6 Turbo ute also has a massive collection of die cast cars and motor bikes . So big is his collection he had to extend his house reno to accomodate them .. Mostly buys from the USA but also a few from England and Asia ..

I shudder to think how many he has now . When he showed me once. It'd have to be 300 he said that were displayed and quite a few not . That was about five years ago . Dick's distraction would be keeping them dusted ..A lot of them were quite big , especially the bikes from memory .

Haha I remember the old style terrariums, they were torture chambers where plants went to slowly die
Technology has made it so much easier, my 3 in 1 moisture, light and pH meter is invaluable but in reality cost me under 10 bucks.
I nerded out on the lighting and got an infinitely adjustable spectrum LED unit. It can also set sunrise, midday and sunsets, even simulated lightning storms and a dinosaur like me can still set it all up.
It's like a luxury hotel for plants in there.

I have a few models but I'm only getting back into model truck building again.
When I was younger I had a huge collection of most of the famous movie trucks, modifying the kits as they weren't not accurate but ended up giving them away when I built my first boat to live on and had no places to store this stuff.
Reason I sold my Holden panel van was to fund the boatbuilding back then too.

There was a time I cotemplated buying and building a Tamiya R/C truck but like everything else ambition gets the better of ability .

It'd be huge fun , pretty expensive but skill level for first effort would be way above my pay grade so I didn't ..

I think Tamiya also make great display models similar to yours but again I expect these trucks would take really good skills to make a great model like you do .,

Athearn Genesis rarely do a second run of a certain livery of locomotives and I found two in Adelaide I couldn't source anywhere else , not even at much bigger cost in the USA ..Believe it or not I got a bargain . Not even EBAY either . It was a model rail hobby shop that I found online ..was about five years ago .

I went through a bad divorce and my Rhodesian Ridgeback got very unsettled being by herself - sure enough the GAP program was starting and I met them and immediately fell in love with the breed. As so laid back perfect for my quite dominant (pure) Ridgeback.

The professionalism in matching dog to suitable owner is first class and amazing value as desexed, microchipped, has to pass a 3 mths adoption course etc etc

People are still scared but it's funny as they are completely cruisy (albeit need common sense - they will chase fast so need a safe area to run but you clearly know the breed).

Excellent on BCollie - beautiful dogs, love to run when young I hear!! What was the Operation? Sounds like it went well which is fantastic! Still going well?

Mate food for Bruce will be wet food like dog roll and cans - he still has enough teeth to eat surprisingly. Dogs have 40 I believe.

Quality dry food a thing of the past but that's ok : )

Hear you on the Border thing,glad yours is doing well,had a few of them over the years sadly we lost this fella awhile back to cancer,gave it all we could but once confirmed we had to let him go,cracker of a dog/mate.

Pic of his first day with us,feet hadnt even touched the ground at that stage his innings was cut a bit short but he had a great life and thats the best you can do.

.. I knew they had a few teeth but 40 is more than I thought..Glad to hear he can still eat fairly normally ..that's great because dogs love their nosh ..
Missy had a Grade 2 Mast Cell Tumor .

.Can be life threatening but being ten , the surgery itself scared me witless but as it happens she coped with that especially well they told me when I picked her up that day . Pathology grade these malignant tumors to 5 the vet said so being 2 it 's rating is low grade which meant no chemo or radiation. Low grade is the best we could have hoped for . She's got a big lipoma too and arthritic in the back from an injury when she was about 3 but she copes with that pretty well with a regular cenovin injection.. Good stuff is that ..Give Bruce a big pat from me..Dogs are precious .

I’ve been today starting to reclaim salvaged tiles for completion of a floor repair in a late ‘50s/early ‘60s flat bathroom. They’re the little 1x2 inch rectangles in beiges and earthy reds.

Got some floor chunks from a demolition and used my 9” grinder to slice the tiles off in sheets. Thence into a bucket of hydrochloric acid to dissolve the strong cement mortar. I wouldn’t call it a fun job, but it does pass the time.

Yep , thanks . Sorry to read about your fella .He was a handsome dog ..Mine has got arthritis in the back , lipoma , a bit fat like her owner and into double figures as of a month or so ago but she's a treasure , always has been . I got her at 8 weeks old and looked a lot like your bloke at that age .

Missy 2 is my third Border My first BC went to 16 , and she went from kidney failure , so did Suzy (cream and white) my second one six years ago . Both were short hair . Terribly sad when you lose them but the sheer joy of having them more than makes up for the pain of losing them . Cheers ...

Our old boy, is turning 16 this year and the bugger just keeps going. We expected to lose him 4 years ago after the cancer diagnosis and all the fat deposits appearing over him etc etc. Too old and too far gone to operate apparently, so we just figured when he got in pain we would put him down, hasn't happened yet. We got the white one 4 years ago when we got the vet report, so he could learn off of the old guy as he has the best personality of any dog I have ever owned. The white one is completely deaf, which is why he was abandoned. The old boy had a downward turn about a year ago, so we got yet another pup to meet him and keep the white one company but he bounced back again. He's happy and comfortable and the bugger is bullet proof.

Bloody amazing ,and that's three incredible distractions you have there .To rescue a dog or cat is one of the best things to do by the looks of it . My fellow workmate Murray and his wife went through major health issues . Michele had a breast tumor about six years ago and Murray went through depression about 2 years ago ..Both have come through really well . One of the big helps to both of them is Allie .. Allie is a rescue dog too . Muzz said that while Michele went through months of treatment and then later himself , Allie was the shining light and genuine distraction for both . She's a bit of a ratbag and sneaks off to the neighbours while both are at work and spoiled rotten but she's seriously a big part of their lives . I think she's repaid her rescue many times over .
