Looks to me like the Siri works better then the Android voice talk.

The difference between Siri and the Android offerings is Android fetches its ability to do tasks from the cloud, Siri apparently does it on the handset. That's Apple's excuse for offering Siri only on the iPhone4S due to greater processing power (not, as the sceptic in me thinks, to persuade iPhone4 users to purchase an iPhone4S for a feature they'll rarely use).

Give it a month and you'll probably find the bits of Siri that the Android platform doesn't do will be patched in - and will run on any Android handset.. and people will clamour to not use it, like they don't use it now.

The disappointment I see is that Siri was the big "innovation". Everything else was catch up -
- Dual-Core
- 1GB Ram
- 8MP Camera
- iOS5 - Notifications bar, Camera button etc

Thats why I was hoping/expecting something big. At least a new design. Siri just seems to me like FaceTime - used once and then forgotten.

Be interesting to see if/when Siri appears on the Mac desktop

Because it's losing significant market share in the phone and tablet space to them. It's more than a slightly faster processor.. also has double the memory. Removable battery. Removable storage. Not tied down to an ecosystem - well, unless you want to void warranty.

Apple haven't been the innovative leader for a long time, they're the litigation leader as they can't compete with innovation. The 3G and iPad were their innovation peak, now they just bring out handsets and tablets that are middle of the road specwise and their OS updates provide functionality that have been available elsewhere for years - yet label them revolutionary.

Funny thing is, people will still queue overnight to ditch their iPhone4's for a 4S. Their products may be well behind the curve, clearly their marketing isn't.
I like my iPhone 4 it suits me it does what i want it to do, as did my old 3GS. If it aint broke dont fix it. (No i didnt upgrade to a new one because i could it was out of contract).
Yeah i have jail broken my 4 as i couldnt care for my warranty but, and it was good when i did it playing around with it, but id be just as happy with a 'standard' iPhone and as i posted earlier i wont be queuing for the new one.

Those are the US prices. Over here they will be more like $999 for the 64GB model to buy outright.

Check out my mates tech blog for the other info

http://notanalog.com/post/1103824788...de-that-counts

The let down for me is that it won't support Telstras 4G Network.

As a 3GS user, this is the phone I will upgrade to:

1. Because its better then my current phone
2. My contracts up and I have been waiting for this one
3. It will be faster on Telstra then other carriers, so for me its still fine
4. Its no big change in terms of having to learn another OS because I got a new phone
5. My current settings/data/contacts/calendar/music/pictures will just be loaded on when I plug it in to my mac book first time

Its a good upgrade for those with something older then an iPhone 4.

Alternatively, its going to lower the price of the iPhone 4 enough to make that a better option for people who need/want to upgrade their 3G or 3GS.

Also, anyone going to Vodafone for this will be sorely disappointed.

Yeah I agree with voda and any iphone. I have mates who have iphones and are on voda and have had nothing but issues with reception for calls and data with these guys. Their phone is fine, but the telco is pure poo in the way of reception is concerned. 3 is the same in my opinion.

In the end, as long as the phone is doing what you want it to and you are getting the support you want from your telco, then from my point of view, there is nothing to be concerned over and you should be happy.

That's positive news for you Dallas. But I wasn't going to take the risk when I changed from 3 very recently. I hope for Voda's sake they don't become like 3 and sacrifice reception quality for cheaper rates.

My Uncle works for Ericsson Communications, Well I think he still does.
He's still in that line of work anyway...

He cringed when I told him I was with Vodafone, LOL

When I spoke to him a few months ago, he said Voda were throwing heaps of money into upgrading all their network towers and such, He said they were still way behind the likes of Telstra, But another year or so should have them getting closer.
He also said, they were playing catch up because the hadn't really spent anything on the network and with the explosion of their client base and the smart phone in the last few years, it was hurting Vodafone really bad.

I guess you either stick it out and hope the upgrades happen soon in your are, or change.

I know mate. But they are still trading under separate names. I was merely stating that I hope they don't completely follow the same business strategy as 3.

Yeah...the N series Nokias were very good phones......but Apple went a step further by making the iphone infinitely more interactive and intuitive.......the rest have been playing catch up since that time. Its not always about the number of features , the most megapixels , the biggest screen or the fastest processor.......its how it all interacts and the end user experience as well as ease of use. By the time Nokia released their N97 - they had gone so waaaaaaaaaay off the mark and their phones were a PITA to use in comparison. And then there is the Symbian OS v Apple's OS........should we even go there...... The Symbian stuff wasn't even engineered for a touch screen phone....Once you innovate something like the iphone.......its a hell of a lot easier for the rest to copy and companies like Google who have squillions to squander....will eventually just buy Apple.........that's how they will end up with a superior phone..........it will be an AGGLE.......lol

On a side note. I have recently been involved in an app for work and the software guys developed an app to use with their main software.(property management software) Due to the way things are programmed, they did the apple app first as that was the most difficult to do and get it submitted to apple. They knocked it back.

The lead programmer was speaking to an apple dev on the phone in california to find out why it had been knocked back. One of the things were they didn't like was the code it was written in. Our guy explained it was easier to port across to android and windows in this format. Apple guy then states "I am going to stop you there. It is inappropriate to mention other OS and companies whilst in a conversation with me and apple"..... "goodbye" said our dev! Made me laugh did that!

All apple do is copy now. Yes they were ahead of the game when the ifail was first released but their own arrogance has left them now playing catch up.

As of today Apple's market capitalisation is $350B which is nearly worth what MSFT ($220B)and GOOG ($166B)is combined.

Apple is the largest tech company in the world.

More worth than the US Government

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/globe...rticle2114181/

Quote:
We can’t resist passing this little nugget along: Cash-rich Apple Inc. (AAPL-Q377.37-0.88-0.23%) now has more cash on hand than the U.S. government.

In its latest earnings announcement, Apple said that its cash holdings had swelled to more than $76-billion (U.S.), thanks to a combination of big iPad and iPhone sales and not a lot of spending. Meanwhile, as the deadline to the U.S. debt crisis ticks down, the Treasury Department – which has enormous spending commitments – reported that its bank account had dwindled to less than $74-billion, and could hit zero by Aug. 2.

You can insert any joke you want here – that the U.S. government should start selling iPads or that Apple should take over the reins in Washington. But it also underlines the fact that the respective health of the U.S. government and corporate America are two very different things.

I love Maccas, and most other fast foods. I am neither obese nor do I think myself lower class (our house is on a hill so we are above most people in town! )

You dont need to buy the entire company to "own" it . A majority share holding of even 15 -20% would be enough to stir the pot . Dont forget that google just purchased Motorola mobility which is the hardware arm of motorola....their plan to take over the universe is only in Phase 1.....
