For the last week all I've heard from dealer is "we're waiting on part lead time from ford".
What's so hard about getting a TCM? Or even finding out how long it will take to get? |

Got my car back in Friday and have done about 100 km trouble free since. Considering to fault was intermittent I'll be a bit nervous for a while yet though.
Documentation states that a new "mechatronic unit" was fitted. Is this same as TCM? I caught a glimpse of fords invoice to the dealer and it was around $2500. |

I know that feeling, I've done over 4000km in the 4 or 5 weeks since getting mine back and I've still got that nervous feeling every time the transmission does something unexpected.

Lurking under the black housing you can see on the front of the gearbox there is a three part system properly called the mechatronic unit. It comprises: 1) An electronic module with speed, temperature, pressure and position sensors hard wired. I call this the TCM. 2) A solenoid body containing 9 solenoids and some valves; 3) A valve body assembly. When the TCM is removed the solenoids and valve body must come out with it. I don't know if these sub assemblies are replaceable separately, and whether the term TCM is sometimes used to mean mechatronic unit. Next time I visit my friendly spare parts man at Ford I'll ask how much a solenoid body costs ;-) Last edited by rondeo; 05-04-2016 at 01:48 PM. Reason: correction |

Mechatronic has been the general term since the days of traditional auto gearboxes. TCM is the Ford term and obviously it's constituent components are a bit different in a dual-clutch gearbox.
You should be pretty happy to have a new one, they are not a common part and AFAIK $2500 is a good price, let alone free! Sent from my GTi-9305 using bloody Tapatalk

Hi all, it was suggested that I raise my issue here in the Mondeo forum as well and seek input from those who might have seen similar, and this seemed like a relevant thread rather than starting yet another powershift problems thread.
I have a 2013 Kuga TDCi 2.0 120kw with powershift (same drivetrain afaik), and in the last couple of weeks, it's started making noises like gears clashing immediately after changing up into 3rd and 4th (but no other gears). At a constant speed the revs are also flaring - just noticeably on the tacho on flat ground, but up to 200rpm difference uphill/under load. The dealer had it for a day last week, tried some software updates and also pulled an error code from the AWD system (I wasn't told what it was). It's booked in tomorrow for further investigation, for 'up to a week'. Has anyone had similar issues, or got any thoughts? Thankfully it's got a couple months warranty left on it. Cheers.

I just picked up an mc titanium and the shifting was quite harsh into each gear especially second. I thought the engine and trans mounts were gone.
Anyway did a trans oil change today and looked to like it had never been done, although always serviced at ford by previous owner. I changed the trans oil using the guide on here which wasn't the best guide and its like a different car, nice smooth gear changes. I bought a 20l drum of Fuchs titan dtcf as was better value as plan to run it for 1000 kms and change it again to make sure its nice and fresh for the next 30000 kms. (yes 30 not 60 as most transmission places recommend to half the period if you want long life from your trans. |

Hi all, I have a sad tale that from what I read is not uncommon. Just after any advice I can get. My MC TDCI LX wagon gearbox just got the dreaded "limited transmission function" warning and I lost first, third, fifth and reverse. The local Ford dealership are wanting around $14k to replace the transmission. The car has done around 224k but other than the always a little rough gear changing from 1st to 2nd, it has been a fantastic car for the two years that we have had it. I had the transmission serviced twelve months ago but unsure of the prior service history at this point (I am endeavouring to find that out). Does anyone have any meaningful advice to give? At this stage I am just looking at wrecking it and buying another car. Such a f$&@ing waste!

I would get a second opinion from a reputable transmission specialist - not a spare parts replacement centre like the dealership.... I can recommend one in the ACT if you are close? Failing that, I would look at a lower KM second hand box from a wreckers. I'm sure it would be a cheaper option.

i would check with a local auto specialist to see how much to rebuild, often cheaper than replacing whole assembly. If you tell us where your located, someone may have a contact in your area.
