Leaving all the dirt, dust and poo on the car for the auction is all part of the legend and the appeal. The buyer can clean it. Reserve has been reached.

I'll go the winner pikes out and disappears and they have to do another auction
The publicity that would create could suggest the original 'winner' was staged

Has anyone got an old horse stable? We could park my old Cortina in there, fill it full of manure and make a mint. Go you halves?

Seriously though I think this is exactly the thing and the people the old boy didn't want to see it end up at and with.
But as previously said the times up for it in its current situation and I'm watching vicariously to see how it pans out.

I reckon you can blame Wayne Carini (Chasing Classic cars) for all this.

Off topic slightly, but do you guys think that in 30-40 years times cars like this will command the same sort of coin? I'm 39 but I'm wondering if "Gen Y" will still want to collect and restore the classic muscle cars from the 1960's and 70's, or it will taper off.

They'll be finding Tesla's in garages still plugged in from the year 2020.
Guys will be banging on about how it still uses a vintage 3 prong electrical lead from such a bygone era.

Reckon this will pull between $450k and $500k as ridiculous as it sounds

Next best thing to a ph3 ho and effectively built to race

As for 30 40 years time - how are 80yr old cars faring today? Will be interesting to see what happens next year when the real effects of rona start to become apparent - fuels etc won't be a problem for a while yet but suspect values will decrease and start a continous slide in 5-10 year time.?.

Good cars will always pull good money?

Nope, all the guys that luv them will be dead and the new guys will think they are old piles of junk.

Check the internet for your answer. Fully restored vintage cars pull around $20k because the people who restored and cherished them are dead.

And so it ever was.

I was going to predict $300k till I just checked and saw it has passed that already.

For run of the mill, mass produced cars yes. Anything special / rare / unique from that era goes for decent money.

I've been getting to know the guys at the Model T club as a T is on my bucket list.
As the era and the owners pass the interest just isn't there and it reflects in the price. At this point alot of the cars for sale are part of estates and the family members are more interested in them finding a good home than getting top dollar.

To clarify the above, just in case anyone thinks that going by the paint colour name it should be a shade of gold, so must have been resprayed orange at some point.

Paint code on the plate is Y157 which confirms 'MacRobertson's Old Gold'. MacRobertsons obviously commissioned the fleet colour from the wrapper of their 'Old Gold' dark chocolate, which had a predominantly orange background.

I tried to post an image of an 'Old Gold' chocolate however it wouldn't let me post it as I don't have a Flicker account or whatever it is that's required.

If someone who knows what they're doing would like to google a MacRobertsons Old Gold pic and post it you'll see the colour is very similar to this car.
