It swept through quite quickly. It went very dark and you could hear the hail coming - it was like listening to a Jumbo Jet engine getting closer. When it hit it sounded like gunshots as the larger than golf ball hail stones were hitting cars , roof tiles and brickwork. Lasted minutes and it was amazing the damage left behind. Trees had small branches sheared off and it looked like the whole area had a wipper snipper go through it......

I really do feel sorry for the people who had major house and car damage. Our neighbour lost both his cars......so many dents and broken screens........surely a write off for both.

Here's a pic of our backyard when it started.........It got worse after this photo was taken. Stacks more golf balls and then heaps of rain.

i was at moomba with the family yesterday when it hit, we got back to the car for shelter & i saw alot of damaged cars along the way, had a quick look at my xr & thought i was lucky, until i got home, boot lid, roof bonnet, rhs front & rear quaters & both doors have various levels of damage......worst bit is the car is 6 yrs old with 69,000 on the clock & only had 2 dints in the whole thing....rough estamate from a panel shop was 250 per panel...this could get very expensive.

mrs not happy as we were thinking of taking the au ghia (which has a few scratches in the front) & parking at the casino, last minute decision to park at the gardens to be closer to the event. stupid mistake really...should never have changed the system.

To all you poor souls who have have home and vehicle damage, my sympathy goes out to you. Something you have worked so hard to achieve damaged or destroyed through no fault of your own.

I feel especially sorry for those with no insurance. That must be truly devastating.

Look at it this way though, at least you have something worth looking after. Think of the people that spent the storm in a shared or rented house, with no car to put undercover.

No way, if you cant insure your car you shouldn't be driving it. Its like those people in the fires that got paid out even though they didn't have insurance..wtf....anyway, off topic.

Sorry to hear of all the damage to people's property, we coped alot of rain here yesterday, it was good to see, as most of it goes around us and heads over the ranges to Melb, and god know's we need it bad, so we were glad to see the rain come down like it did, but we didn't get any large hail like it was in some part's of Melb.

There seems to be a good swirler over Adelaide at the moment, and it's sucking all the moisture from up North.
Just looks like it's building up all that loose moisture and whamo, to us again!

Have a look at this black spot heading our way although is sussposed to just pass Bendigo to the east but heading toward's Melbourne's sth east, I'd batten down for those in this area.

If you zoom out to national radar the whole weather pattern is swirling to the left, so Melbourne could yet get another flogging

Best over the next few hours to sort out the shed and get cars in there!

I just did that now! The missus (uninsured) XR6 got hammered last nite on the roof, boot and bonnet - no glass broken and the sides are OK.

The territory we were lucky enough to be out and about in the yarra valley where we saw nothin but a bit of rain. Got home to Scoresby and you could tell all hell had broken loose here.

Not only did I have a heap of raking and cleaning up to do (no major damage tho) but the dog had ripped open a bag of bean bag beans in the back yard so it looked like snow!

Can now get both cars under cover tonite anyhow! Fingers crossed it's not needed.

As much as everyone thinks that their own repairs and claims take priority, please inderstand that that the staff will be under the hammer and doing everything they can to get claims sorted quickly.

How is it that your “poor mum” cops a double whammy? Is it because she has to go to work and do the job she’s paid to do?

Like many, I’ve found a lot more damage around the house and to vehicles than I first thought, but I’ll just ring the insurance company on Tuesday like everyone else.

One thing that I can just about guarantee is that the service from insurance company’s will (like always) be slow and frustrating, however, in a situation like this, it’s a great excuse for the lot of them to jack up their premiums because of the losses involved.

You’ll probably have a hard time looking for sympathy for an insurance company or the people on the end of the phone “who in many cases” cause a lot of the frustration on an automotive forum.

Saying that, I’m glad that the storm didn’t damage much in your area.

We're getting more in Rowville.... just what my as yet unrepaired skylight doesn't need... hoping my temporary fix will hold up.

Friends in Whittlesea are saying the town is underwater. Not good.

Yeah it did - but the size of the hailstones werent big enough to warrant damage. None that I heard from friends who had their cars outside in Essendon.

My car was pummelled at Highpoint Shopping Centre as I was doing my workout. Not much I could do but sit and watch atcually. Luckily there are no dents that I have seen yet, when I wash it next they may appear!

Road is 3' under water over the bridge in the plenty gorge, my lilydale toppings driveway is most likely back in Lilydale by now, $$$$$$$$'s of damage, cops are turning cars away from the floods.

OK, just checked the rain gauge, 70mm in 1 hour, dam next to my block is full, the first time in 25 years. Is this the end of 15+ years of drought?

Not quite. The drought will only be over about a month before the desalination plant is due to open.

just drove passed your place jc, plenty and yarrambat is under water. Block next to my folks has lost a fence and there is a torrent going down the paddock. Now in doreen, gonna be wet starting a new job on tuesday! A mates place nearly got flooded in mernda

Come up in the country and then ask yourself that question again.
It's nice to see this steady downpour but once again MOST of it has elluded the most harsh hit area's of the state when you talk about drought.
Melb people need a good reality check when they mention the word "drought" on the new's.
