Plenty of Toyotas break down. Plenty of other marques go the journey.

Perception is more important than reality.

100%. Toyota are reaping the rewards of building some reliable cars in the past, however these days they are simply cashing in on that reputation rather than adding to it. They are no better or worse than anyone else.

Its hard these days to buy a bad car, pretty much you just need to keep up maintenance and you're good to go.
The only dodgy stuff going on is going to be electrics - ie Euros. Keep in mind the average lifespan of a car in Australia is just under 10 years. He's an interesting summary of the benefits of reducing the age of the fleet on our roads: https://www.aaa.asn.au/wp-content/up...t_Dec-2017.pdf I'd say the 10 years old is the point where the Euros start giving you electrical dramas - not economical to repair. Reliability numbers fron the mines show no difference between Ranger and Hilux. The Hilux is just a little quicker and cheaper to fix. For now. |

Read yesterday that they are actually 2 completely different cars, and share very little between them.
Hyundies is just taking the urine at this point. Following that example Ford should just call the Everest the Ranger wagon and instantly go to no1 in sales. And those 2 share a hell of a lot of parts and are at least on the same platform, unlike the i30 hatch and sedan. |
