Nice little car the Suzuki Baleno, I used to have one, bought it brand new, very comfortable and good on the fuel.

Only problem with them that you may not be aware of ... the gearboxes in them are prone to failure because Suzuki used the same gearbox from the 1.3L Swift in the 1.6L Baleno.

Obviously due to the extra power from the bigger engine the gearboxes get smashed, mine failed around the same mileage as your one and I had to get it rebuilt, can't remember off hand how much ... but it wasn't cheap!

My Brother-in-Law who's been a Mechanic for over 30 years did the job on the cheap and found out that it was a very common fault with the Baleno.

I remember at the time he tried ringing around and getting a second hand gearbox from the wreckers .... most of the wreckers just laughed and said "if only", they reckon they could sell them every day if they could only get hold of them, they were all very aware of the Baleno gearbox issue.

CONGATULATIONS! Okay, advocacy mode 'on' :-) Drop into most any auto-parts-shop and place an order from automotive parts supplier "PRO-KIT" for their Item Number RG9212, cost is $20. Has a nice plastic storage case bearing instruction, and will fit neatly into the Baleno's boot... U can throw them at MP's.

NB- France's grace period re warning triangle 'carry and use' and ditto for EN471 safety vests, is over:-

Rules on warning triangle and high-vis jackets enforced
THE period of 'education' on new rules covering the need to carry a warning triangle and high visibility jacket in your car comes to an end on October 1.

From that date the gendarmerie will begin to enforce the regulations, failure to have a triangle or jacket in your car will mean a fine of €90 for each offence, and the equipment has to meet EU standards.

Also on the same date rules requiring cyclists to wear high-visibility jackets will be enforced, requiring jackets to be worn when outside towns, at night or when visibility is poor during the day.
