The worst bit about this is that his kids will have to go around and listen to and read the negative fallout about their dad. There are some supporters but the overwhelming majority think that the dad is a halfwit moron.

Its one thing to drag your own @s s through the mud but doing it with your kids is ignoramus on the highest level.

Many might think they are halfwit morons as well.
Anything you post publicly is subject to public opinion whether positive or negative.
when you post youtube , it becomes subject to global opinion and misinterpretation.
people have the right to post text and video on the net when and how they want to, but they should be mindful of the fallout and consequences. Case in point.

there would be a miniscule minority of people up in arms concerned about watching kids riding motocross. Watching kids wrecking cars and doing skids isnt quite socially acceptable yet....lol. Might be in years to come.

@GTPChris, you're entitled to you your opinion. But what gets me, is you've come on a public forum, potentially looking for support. How about you approach Sam at the next MOSC meet and have a discussion about his behaviour directly with him?

I was taught to drive when I was 13, on a farm in a manual HiLux. The first day I got mw L's, my brother took me out. There is a corner nearby which is off camber and it was wet. Sure enough the rear of the old Datto slide out, I oppy locked, caught it and kept driving (brother shat dacks). Get an L plater these days with ZERO experience into that situation and watch what happens.

Playing devil's advocate here - but chances are that they would be driving a newer car with ABS , EBD , SC , ESC .
In which case - probably feel a slight twitch and then.........nothing. Drive straight ahead.

Let's face it. This Sam guy and his kids are doing the burnouts for fun. Nothing to do with a concern for future car safety or driving experience on roads with heavy traffic and learning any driver courtesy. I reckon that's fine on your own private property - away from prying eyes and the media and its not affecting your neighbours or the general public. Start filming it and distributing it and then voila, it becomes public opinion property.

Trying to defend it by attacking other sports and activities is DOUCHE BAG territory and shows a considerable lack of tact and intelligence by this Sam guy. I reckon there's a lot of good work done by car clubs on the image of your average performance car enthusiast that has been undone by this. At the end of the day - a lot of govt ( nanny state ) type policy is directed by mass public opinion and dissent. This guy aint doing us any favours.

@ESP, so you don't consider him teaching his kids to drive old bombs on 10 acres worth while?
You can play devils advocate as much as you like, you're only perpetuating the cycle of bad drivers on our roads.

Whilst on the subject of attitude, I bet more rubs off on the child sitting in the back seat for 18 years before they are even driving. Bad habits get passed down without parents even realising.

You say he isn't doing 'us' any favours, who is 'us' exactly, what favours are you doing for 'us'? I don't see any harm in what he has done and there are thousands who are supporting him.

I don't see any where any one criticizing being taught to drive on private property, I was taught from a young age to drive on my brothers farm.

Doing a burn out in controlled environment (Sporting event) & doing one in his driveway is two separate matters & publicly posted of his driveway burn out does not go down well in the public eyes.

I have no problems with Sam Surace teaching his kids to do burnouts in a controlled environment, but when he starts to assert automotive sports are safer than that of the hunting fraternity, my blood begins to boil!

If you're going to sledge another group to bolster your weak claims Mr Sam Surace, at least be sure to get your facts straight!!!

Hunting is widely regarded as one of the safest recreational activities. In addition to this, public land hunters have an impeccable safety record.

https://googledrive.com/host/0B_xGYb.../NCIS-2012.pdf
I dont think he was sledging Hunting. He used hunting and fishing as an example.

Let's list what is not generally acceptable by the general public:
Modified cars.
Loud cars.
Low cars.
Motorbikes.
loud motorbikes.
Jet Skis.

So what are we supposed to do, ban everything that is perceived as 'unacceptable'?

Perpetuating the 'nanny' cycle.

No one said any thing about banning, your words.

If I was to sit outside your house & did a burn out most likely you & neighbours be ****ed off, if I did this at a car event example Calder Raceway I'd be cheered.

Hence my earlier post comment.

King of off topic but I was driving around with a mate in his Race MG that was twice as noisy as any of my cars, he put the boot in down the street and all the old people look then smile and think how awesome - if I did the same thing in my Ford they would be taking the number plate and calling the cops.........

Interesting thought, perhaps we should also include what about those sub cultures or why those sub cultures are frowned upon that lacks community support.

Modified cars. - is it a modified car persay or the way the culture tends to behave while in said cars?
Loud cars. - Is it becuase to the non mechanically knowledgeable loud must mean broken, hence unroadworthy, or in fact unroadworthy. Plus disturbance to the peace,
Low cars. - Is this a real concern. Im willing to bet the majority of people couldt tell if the car was lowered and by how much?
Motorbikes. - is it motorrbikes or they ay they are used or the impression cast by media of Motorcyclists
loud motorbikes.- How they get away with it Ill never know!
Jet Skis. - Is the community anti jet skis because they are loud, used dangerously or becuase they destory things. Is it the users or the object.

Bit like the argument guns don't kill people people kill people with guns. Who/what does the community blame, the inanimate object or the user.

There are not many P Platers that can do this either....
I would even stretch it to most Full Licensed drivers too....

I drove on a farm before I could drive on the road and honed my skills on the back dirt roads as a P Plater.... Even took the older kids out doing figure 8's and stuff out Port Gawler on the beach in a $500 VH Commy we had just for this... They had great fun and learnt car control....

how many people have been injured on a burnout pad vs how many have been injured on a public road on a rainy day....
you have more control over a car doing burnouts than you have on a wet road.

And what about all the 7+ year olds racing junior dragsters, go karts etc they all "HOONS" too?

media and the public has to pull their heads out of __________-
