I recall that caused a reaction from the crowd and caused Ford to go back and change the design before production started. I am sure I have a photo of it that I'll try and dig out.
The only reason they changed the bonnet was because of the high rate of scrappage of the first version. It would split when pressed. So they were forced to change the design to prevent that from happening. Hence getting rid of that front crease which was causing the problems. As you can see the second version is much smoother and much less inclined to split the metal when pressed.

Thanks Bossxr8, did you work at the casting/stamping plant or AMO in Geelong?

I remember looking at the BA series cars like in the pics above and at the motor shows when they first came out and especially after the AU lights and shape thinking thank God!! They got it right this time!

The testing and timing bit, has more to do with how a new model variant went down a full production line.............not quality or durability unfortunately.

I think the problem these days is everyone thinks you can ask crazy prices now since they have ceased production.

In my opinion the only way this is worth $200k is many many years down the track.

The bad news is back then no one was really keeping these cars laid up which is why they are worth **** tons now where as there are plenty expecting a profit now for the late models.

My brother is like why did Dad sell his GT or Torana or this or that. It wasn't worth **** back then

You can not blame the seller for having a red hot go. I also wish them best of luck with the sale.................however if the car is a genuine untouched mint low miler it is probably realistically worth twice the price of a comparative nice condition accident free unit with the same options that presents well and has not been driven into the ground.

Cheers Mick

I don’t think this guy understands what the market wants. The market wants the best car of the bunch at the time. Eg people would never pay as much for a mint XR GT as they would for a XY, Because the XY was the fastest at the time and considered the best because of this.

Fast forward 40 years the fastest and most powerful falcons of all time are the GTF and sprint. These cars will fetch the highest prices because the were the best and last of their time/era.

A BA GT was the slowest and worst handling GT of the modern era so I believe it will be worth the least. Sorry to say that to BA owners but it’s the truth.

Look at the EB and EL GT they were not fast cars indeed the xr6 at half the price would give those GT falcons a run for their money. So there future value will reflect this. That’s why these cars don’t carry much interest.

I think the Ts50 5.6 litre will be somewhat of a hit.

But the king by far will be a hsv w1 as it’s the fastest and most powerful Aussie built car ever.

I think a XRGT will always be more desirable than XT!
Rarity alone... 2 1/2 times more XTGTs built than XR’s 600 odd.

Edit... (coulda sworn you had XT there a minute ago?)

Rarity is not everything although it is important to a degree. If it was all about rarity then the king would be the TL-50 series 3 5.6 litre. Only one made. You can’t get rarer than that.

No - it was my mistake I was trying to fix it as you posted. Big move leaving the australia and settling over there. I’d love to do that but I haven’t got the balls to tell you the truth. Hope all is going well for you and your family there. You should import a falcon even if it’s only a ****ter and drive it over there.

If you had lots of superannuation or a few rental properties then you could rent your own house to say one of your kids, and have enough income to live like a king

Got a link? Go twist his arm and grab it for 15k.

Kind of a sobering thought on cars like these GT's . I'm in my fifties and grew up getting interested by all sorts of Fords and Holdens . I recall a couple of XY V8's kicking around town , one was a GT that a bloke a few years older than me had . As a teenager waiting to get my licence I ogled XB's , XC's that were newish then as well as Monaro's and hot Torana's from the General .

When I was about 20 I almost bought a demonstrator Escort Rally Pack with the 2.0 engine but settled on a 1.6 GL because that's all I could afford . I did get to test drive the yellow and stripes Rally Pack and what a little rocket that felt like .

I've never owned a GT Falcon . Never owned a V8 either . Circumstances have never aligned for that to happen . One day before I'm too old to do so I'd love to have that chance but prices and exclusivity might even stop that .

As I drive my 2008 FG naturally aspirated XR6 which is the most powerful car I've ever owned though I'm thinking I've been lucky enough to live in an era that it was even possible to think of owning a proper Australian built GT Falcon or similar spec Holden . Then you think of 18-20 year old drivers now who will never get that chance .The first crop of young Australian drivers with no Australian built cars to want for .

The way things are going with SUV's , little runabout hatches and even EV/Hybrids the age of motoring enthusiasts is coming to an end . The car soon enough will be two things only . First is just transport from A to B and secondly cars like a Falcon GT /Turbo Falcon / Monaro / Torana / Commodore will be museum piece oddities .

By the time the current 18 year olds are grandfathers the Australian fast Fords or Holdens will just be a forgotten part of our history .

Maybe I better keep an eye out for that V8 sooner before they're too rare or expensive to find .

Great thought , really is , but I have my dear old AU ll Futura still going strong . She's part of the family , 15 years so far . When /if I replace the XR6 and if I can find a V8 mint enough for the money I reckon a last hurrah V8 could be then . Either that or I find a nice affordable project car that I can have a go at . Job security agreement negotiations will have a say in that as will a trip I have in the wings to visit a great friend in Baltimore Maryland in a year or so . I'll keep a V8 in the thought process though even if it's not til I retire in about 6 years time.

Disagree ............ fastest and most powerful don't make it the most sought after or future money makers . That decision is in the eye of the beholders , we all have our different reasons on what makes our FORD valuable , so just enjoy your ride .

Agree it's steep for a BA but hay ..... good luck to him

Couldn't agree more. As I have gotten older, my whole attitude has changed regarding 60's & 70's Fords. I love XW sedans and as great as the GT is, its the shape I love so a nice Fairmont or 500 in good condition is just as pleasing.

Couldn't agree more. As I have gotten older, my whole attitude has changed regarding 60's & 70's Fords. I love XW sedans and as great as the GT is, its the shape I love so a nice Fairmont or 500 in good condition is just as pleasing.
I'm the opposite. I couldn't wait to rid myself of my 1977 XC Fairmont 5.8L GXL ...by 1985 it had become a rusty ol POS and not a week went by when there wasn't a new problem with it. When I was offered good coin to change over to an XF Ghia ($2,500) I grabbed it.

I'd rather have the rusty GXL today than the XF, but we all know the benefit of hindsight. I gave my MK1 GT Cortina to my older brother after I bought another Ford as he had no car. I found out he totally destroyed it through neglect like he has every car since & that was 30 years ago.
