The thing is I don't Holden cares as much about its losses than other companies. I mean yes they care, but they also know that the government will bail them out if things go pear shaped. It wouldn't suprise me if they have been temporarily operating at a loss recently just to maintain that # 1 selling badge and are just awaiting for the release of the series 2.

Yes you are absolutely right.
Although dropping your prices will never guarantee sales, and market perception is important.
I'd rather be Number 2 and make a profit than be Number 1 and make huge losses. Isn't it the exact same way its playing out in the USA?
As for Ford getting rid of some old plated stock before the end of June, this is done purely as a dealer initiative to avoid depreciative costs associated with the finance they have on each vehicle.
To put it into perspective, imagine how us FG owners would feel if Ford said; "From now on XT's are 25K drive away, G6's 30K drive away, XR6's 30K driveaway etc etc" ?

The term "old plated cars" is a scam made up by the car sales industry.

There is no difference what so ever between a 12/09 and a 01/10 FG Falcon except a number on a sticker but they have artificially created this "fear" that it is an old one close to its use by date.
Australia is one of the few countries in the world who actually have this system, most of the rest of the world have a MYxx nomenclature.

I always like how people mention "resale" and how it will be affected by price drops. THIS IS NOT NEWS - it has happened forever.

Buy a car, you will lose money. This happens to every brand.
The exception being "godly" cars like GTHO.

Slightly off topic, but speaking of better ways to advertise the bigger cars, I like this Chrysler one for their muscle car >

The Aussie brands need to pull the "Aussie" heart strings of buyers.

resale is important as it determines fleet sales.

It is not as important to the individual, especially if they replace cars less often than every 6 years.

For a company that is dependent on fleet sales, managing resale (compared to your peers) is vital.

Is GM Holden Commo dependent on fleet sales ?
We Know Ford AU Falc currently is NOT

Perhaps, but the dealer who buys the car from ford has it on finance and would rather turn it over before the end of the financial year. This is to avoid depreciative costs. Further, as end of financial year is a time when businesses are looking at reducing their tax bill by purchase of capital items, what's the harm in ensuring they come to you first?

We Know Ford AU Falc currently is NOT
In 2008 65% of Commodore sales went to fleet - http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...rticleId=59992

In early 2010 it was stated that approximately 75% of Commodore sales went to fleet - http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...eet+percentage

For private buyers handing over their hard earned, the Falcon is their choice.

I keep reading this one on this form, but I'm yet to see any backup to the comment "Ford AU Falcon is not dependent on fleet sales".. Is this really truth or just wishfull thinking??

wow u really like pointing out ford is doing it too....but the point is...ford remains profitable and holden isnt. That alone is proof that OVERALL it is done cositantly by holden in there bid to stay no1. If ford did at as much as holden they too would bwe in the negative all the time. Holden apears to fail over and over again. Wow and i hear the new interior mods are gutless anyhow.....anyone wanna buy a brand new ten year old holden..bwahaha

Fleet sales have been leaving the 6 cyl market for some time now

There are very few fleets that are solely 6 cyl these days

We repair plenty of fleet cars and the Toyota badge is the most prominent with a suprising new contender chasing them in several areas (Hyundai)

Falcon and Commodore sales are still dominated by fleet with Government, Rental and ABN holder sales boosting numbers -

plus

the fact that Holden now give "the holden owners grant" to anyone sees every sale really being a fleet sale as the RRP is a distant memory for that car

This from the previous supplied links sounded factual enough to me.

Less than 2000 sales separated Corolla and Commodore by November 2008, prompting Holden to market a near $10,000 discount on the Commodore with a $29,990 driveaway deal for the 60th-anniversary model that helped deliver the large car’s best sales month of the year.

Holden says fleet customers accounted for about 65 per cent of total Commodore sales

Annual leave, scheduled into the calender last year. Done every year.

Stocks are not getting too high, Broadmeadows ran last Saturday and may be doing it again this weekend or next.

Demand has not dropped off at all.

Bingo.

They've already been caught out once before (Adventra) having to send customers rebate cheques for bastardising resale values - here we go again!

That is good on both accounts then. At least it isn't because of too much stock. I take it Geelong is working its proverbial arsé off to keep Broadmeadows fed then?

Thanks Naddis01... If those figure are correct then Falcon sell less to private & rely more on fleet/ government sales than commodore... Not what most of here will have you believe!!!
