Forgotten Models.

I had a VC SLE as my first car, and was talking to the old man the other night about never seeing any around. And the thought came up, to chase a V8 Model down and restore it to traditional spec.

Oh, and initially this wasn't meant to be a debate about the AU. It was only highlighted because of it's controversial styling help established the BA as being more relevant than the VT/VX to VY/VZ to VE evolution.

How about the Proton Jumbuck. Theres thousands of them floating around, and for Christ's sake for a near new ute, they're cheap. Heres a question, are they any good?

Austin 1800, great for ummmmm sleeping in, the 2 fronts lay down level with the back to make a double 'bed', an ex-girlfriend of mine owned one, great for nights at the drive-in - LOL

They can carry a fair bit but they were given a two star ANCAP rating if i recall correctly. Dont know much about anything else about it.

Not so much forgotten, more so just their reputation for being lemons. I remember ACA or whoever absolutely panning them on release for being lemons. 20 years later not a day goes by I don't see one.

Would still love a twin cam EW CRX or SiR vtec EF CRX. Great cars, real litlle giant killers when set up well. The targa killed the CRX name and now it's real hard to get a good one. Not bad for what was originally going to be a Pininfarina styled small FIAT coupe design.

I don't see many AW11 Toyota MR2 or Nissan EXAs around these days.

Calibra was a nice vehicle but had issues with the earlier models. At least the later ones had turbo 4WD.
Apparently Opel have plans to release a new model based on the Opel Insignia.

As for the Piazza (not pizza ) It was always a model better to be forgotten about. It was just an Isuzu with a Holden badge anyway.

Speaking of other weird models forgotten about.. How about Nissan's Gazelle. It was equally as forgettable as the Piazza.

The Calibra was based on a Vectra and as such suffered from it's remote steering (there was a Lotus tickled version that never made it in to production). Have a look at the DTM racers to see how good they could've looked. V6 versions as well as the 4WD turbos.

The Piazza was Ital Designs Asso di Fiori (Ace of Clubs) body plonked on Gemini underpinnings. I think that there was a Lotus tuned suspension version that was a little bit better.

Forgotten models - I seem to be seeing a lot of TRD Aurions lately (I've seen about 12 all up on the road) but I've only seen about 2 FPV F6X's (and 1 of them was in the showroom). Seeing as they only sold twice as may of the TRD's that seems weird to me.

What I would consider forgotten cars
- VK LM5000 brock commodore..everyone talks about the ss etc and barely anyone knows about the LM5000
- EJ holden..everyone thinks they are EH's (look at the tail lights for starters people)
- VC, VE and VF valiants.. everyone is all about the VG VH VJ and CL/CM.
- Holden Gemini..everyone had one and now you hardly see any
- Ford Capri
- datsun sedans and wagons.. Most you see are utes with sr20 and ca18s
- Sigma
- HB and TA Toranas..on a side note alot of people need to learn the difference between a LH, LX and UC. They're not all LH's lol
- Holden HX,HJ etc...most people just call them HQ's

Heaps more to list but i'll leave it at that

Dads VYII SS is a nice car. Quiet, powerful, bullet proof 4 speed (mock as you will, but its stronger than an BTR 4 speed auto).

who remembers the camira's?
Were they a rebadged Holden something? or genuine Holden?

I'm not 100% certain but the Camira was developed by Holden, but underpinned by a global GM platform. The Camira, combined with poor Commodore sales, was what nearly sent Holden bankrupt in the 80s.

Only thing is I wish it was rwd, but still pretty quick and handles great! Particularly when it is stripped out so it only has a dash and drivers seat and has very soft tyres.




I am pretty sure it is mostly standard except for suspension and exhaust.

It has surprised a few people on track days and the like.

Do you mean how the headlights went from rectangular to circular then back to a more flush fitting rectangular, the hatchback was introduced on the second model, the fragile L34's driveline, The UC copping the Commodore/A9X rear suspension and dropping the V8.

Geez it's been years since I've seen a Plus 4 or a Sandpiper Gemini.
