Buying the dry sump system is only half the cost. By the time I had it up and working I reckon it owes me 7k, and I'm still making regular changes to improve its effeciency. As you can see from the above shots I mounted the Petterson oil filter on the inner guard. This created some massive harmonics that reverbed through the entire body. I ended up tossing the engine tie down and mounting the filter on the front of the head and fitting indestructable engine mounts. Problem solved. Theres a fortune in aircraft fittings in the system and you still need the biggest and best sump possible or oil whip still occurs. I'm still using the one we made to be a prototype and were going to copy it in aluminium, but it looks good and works great so stuck with it. I run a crank scraper -

and the sump is as big as possible and runs a diamond screen. The 15L sump is in the boot and I run seamless 1 inch id steel tube straight to the front of the car through the floor. Works too well as if the car sits for a couple of weeks I end up with 12L of oil in the sump(rear seal doesnt like this!). I just take off the belt and return the oil to the sump by hand(this also primes the engine).
I dont think I would go this way again; if I was building a hi rev engine I would use what greencapri408 recommended -

Big fan of the blacked out bright work, door handles and petrol cap. I am planning the same myself. Can you tell me what process you used, paint, anodize powder coat? Also, did you paint under the door trims and roof gutter moulds black or just leave it yellow? Just thinking you wouldn't want strips of colour showing through from behind the trim if any is visible.

Hi Dan,
They were painted in 2-pac and yes, still yellow in the areas you mentioned. The only spot that irritates me is between the gutters and the door seals; wish I'd thought to paint black here.

Is that on the underside of the roof gutters, i thought i could see some colour there in one of your pics.

I am really interested in how you have gone about injecting the clevo too. My mate is a motec tuner and he reckons i should inject. He has a motec run blown cobra mustang cammer engine in his XC coupe. What i am keen to learn about is sensors, timing system and wiring. Will have to quiz you more one day when i get around to my motor.

Somebody else wanted to know if I had a still fitted in the boot LOL. Enjoyed the drive to Seaview with the Barossa Valley Ford Club and entered it into their show and shine that year -

always the way when yur at shows ,always some knob who has to punish yur talents because you destroyed a gt ,happened to me at a ford show in qld many years ago when my xb gt was in black and sported a 400m c6 and some wild interior ,sposed to be putting my old gurl back to appollo blue but finding it hard to remove the black off her ,they look good in funeral dress

My coupe isn't a GT but it was banana, the previous owner re sprayed it red with black, it looks vastly better now, even though the paint isn't finished. no chance I'm going back to a baby puke colour!

I never made the Coupe Cruise, got the car finished the night before at about 10 pm but had no ignition. Turned out it was the MoTec ignition module. Got it back from MoTec last friday and had the old girl running saturday afternoon. Ran in the cam, set timing and tappets all ready for a drive sunday. Felt great with the new top end. Took the wife out for lunch to the Lord Lyndoch in it. I was taking it pretty easy (nothing more than 50% throttle), and you won't believe it - blew the clutch (I hope its the clutch) shifting into 4th on the way home. Lost drive, pedal still feels good and box shifts fine but some nasty noises as you lift the clutch with a gear selected. Hooked up the strap and towed her home without any noise from the gearbox so pretty sure its the clutch (which I blame for all my issues since last september).
So now to pull her apart again and get it sorted - chuck the extreme clutch; don't know why I let them talk me into a button clutch in the first place, its just too much clutch and get something like I ran in the black coupe which ran about 2700lb force and allowed some slip.
So now I've had to replace diff, engine and (hopefully) clutch all due to letting myself being talked into using something I did'nt really want to and which did'nt suit my application.
Back to the drawing board

Yeah, blame the clutch for the diff damage. Button types are just too agressive. Tried one when I was drag racing and it cost me axles and toploader input shafts. This one was supplied by the same guy who made my "good" clutches back in the day. Was told they are different now but they feel the same and seem to cause the same problems. I will probably make one up using a combo of McLoud and Hays parts.

I think the wife has given up; she knows now I'm not going to stop until I get the car right. I will have owned the GT for 30 years next march. Can't wait to get out and do some serious (reliable) cruising and hit the track!!!

Thanks for sharing your story, that yellow is an awesome colour. Couldn't believe the damage to the roof when you the accident pics. From the back it looked ok. I know you weren't happy with the repairs but they did a good job to get the roof straight. Black trim and highlights definitely suit the car the best.

Hey thanks for letting me know about the mag. The pics and story were done in about Feb 2011 and I'd given up on it ever making the mag. I've changed so much on the car since then too.

I wouldn't normally sit here and read someone's story word for word as i don't normally have the time, but i'm in hospital with a broken back and a few other broken bones (dirt bike accident) and all i can say is, awesome story man!! i'm gonna get one of my mates to bring me the latest street fords just so i can read your article.

love everything about your gt hey. the ar se end on that thing is ****in tough!! i bet you just sit there and stare at it, smiling for hours! stupid question, but you've owned the car for nearly 30 years, have you given it a name? haha.

on a more serious note, when do you plan on taking the gt to the track? and what time are you aiming for?

Thanks for the kind words Dan, hope you are healing well and not giving the nurses too hard a time. Spent a fair bit of time in hospital myself over the years and guess I know a little how you must be feeling.
Yea, I still love looking at the rear of the GT; always park it nose first in the shed so when the doors are open you see it. Got it back together saturday and went for a run to Barmera in the riverland for a show and shine. Was a good day and met some great people. Will definately go again next time. Stayed at the Barmera Country Club sat night and they had undercover parking for the GT, well away from the street. Was a nice place at a good price.
I called the GT Elanor in the old days, now just 'The GT'. My wife still calls 'The GT' Christine, as the GT has always disliked her!?!? When we were going out in the 80's and the GT was my daily things would just stop working when she got in the car; the Voxson quadrafonic stereo refused to work but was fine when she wasnt around.
I still got some work to do before I hit the track, just started work on the stroker again even though I havnt got my money back from mastercard yet - A WARNING TO EVERYONE.....DO NOT DEAL WITH SPEEDOMOTIVE IN THE U.S.....THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!
