answering the OP, got to be horsepower.
its much easier to make a car look bling, than have a car that goes hard.

FIAT Group [owners of Chrysler and Lancia] should be ashamed to have put a legend brand on that American trash.

The new one is *much* improved, and alleged to be more quiet than a Lexus [i find that hard to believe] but is still a E-Class Benz [of 200+ generations ago] underneath.

Wait a couple years for a proper FIAT engineered one

Some people put an exhaust on for sound and to be noticed (bling) not for performance. (I dont get why).

For example, Those that change just the rear muffler will get no more performance (maybe less) and just like the noise to tell people they have another 100 horsepower and the car is noticed. thats a bling mod in my opinion not a horsepower mod.

Young commodore drivers make me laugh. I went for a drive in a VX SS a few years back. The owner said it had 300rwkw. I took it for a drive and it went no better than stock. just a missing rear muffler. Then I took him for a burn in mine which made 282rwkw and his head went bright red. I told him it made 282rwkw, he said no way, yours is like 400rwkw. ha. No yours is not 300rwkw was my answer.

Yeah it's a bit like some people spending $$$$ on a S/C but never taking it to the track , those people are purely "look at me" people.

Thats not really a sensible comment. Using your ideology, If you car has the capacity to do 200km/h, you should drive at 200km/h? or if your car has 5 seats, you should always have 5 people in it

The thread isnt about using your car to its capacity its about horsepower vs bling, substance vs style. Please keep it on track. What is your preference? horsepower or bling?

Please your being like Galaxy AU. Surely you can make the distinction. A blower ADDS horsepower. A half job exhaust does NOT ADD horsepower. Some do it for sound/appeal only (bling).

Come on Im trying to keep a clean shirt on in this thread. Be nice.

Nothing worse then seeing a p plater driving a lancer with a big wing, huge loud exhaust, stupid chrome rims and a 'shopping list' down the side thinking that the car is Ferrari.
I respect the fact that they have worked hard for it, but thrashing the car around on the streets thinking its an animal is annoying!!

Stealth HP all the way

EXCUSE ME...... being like me in what way ?.

Surely you can read into what it mean's, as you are very quick to question other's decision's that may seem different to your own but expect everyone to see your way of thought.
All I said was that there are people out there that clearly like to "bling" their vehicle in such a way that the new addition is not used as it is designed to do, these people are people that must feel inadequete with themselves and feel the need to express their short coming's by spending big on such item's that they will never see the full potential of.

Your making a comment that is irrelevant to the thread. Because my car has a supercharger doesnt mean I need to do burnouts all day or race it every week? Because im discreet, its a "look at me" mod?. Parked somewhere, where do you see the bling of a supercharger? Its obviously a horsepower mod. Everyone knows that if I say the sky is blue, you will come on and say its red.

Please I dont want to engage in a dogfight. Please stick to the thread and be nice.

Since when did I mention "Your" car, I never said you... I clearly said that there are some people out there that do this, and it is relevant to the subject... as I believe it is a bling mod... didn't you start this topic if so please STOP, READ and LISTEN to what I have said.
Why would someone add a S/C to a vehicle to only drive around as if they were in a camry, it doesn't make sense to me, but then again most thing's said around here don't.
Really it's no different to adding some Bling under the hood or removing a rear muffler for noise only, some people have more money then sense.

I have a s/c under my bonnet, yet I dont like showing people whats under it because I don't think its worth bragging about. Its there to give my car some boost when I want it, not for bling, and not really for HP even though its added a reasonable amount extra over stock. I dont drive it on boost like a mad man, as my driving consists of 95% city driving.

Does this put me in the horsepower wannabe section or bling bling money aint a thing section?

A custom built car (ie. hot rod or something) is a very different thing to a Blinged up Lancer, Skyline, Commodore or Falcon.

However, bling can also be good for performance...

If I had the money, I'd buy a car, replace all the easily accessible panels with carbon, then have them repainted to look stock. You could probably add a lot of performance to a heavy car like a Falcodore or 1980-90's Euro GT car through light weight panels, wheels and brakes while not losing the luxury side of the car.

For example (a Falcon Sedan):
- Carbon Fibre (Or Fibreglass) Bonnet, Boot, Front Quarters and possibly roof. Can also replace the body kit with Carbon if it would give a weight loss.
- Alloy block (if I6 or 5.4L V8)
- Light weight (and wider) wheels
- Carbon brakes

All but the block could be considered 'bling' if not repainted body colour.

I reckon Jack's (G6ET8U) G6E turbo is one of the best cars on this forum that I would consider the best balance for power vs bling. Under the bonnet, it looks virtually stock to the untrained eye, externally it has some wheels to let others know of individual tastes, some tint and its basically stock externally speaking. its clean, classy and yet will most probably blow a lot of other cars on the street in the weeds, and scare the crap out of most people here if you got the chance to be taken for a ride in it.

Bling vs HP its the best of both worlds in my opinion.

I have let my mum out in my car twice now. Can't wipe the smile off her face, and she hardly even finds the loud pedal.

To the OP, Brakes first, then suspension, and mods for efficiency.

Nothing more fun than out braking and out handling everyone who thinks they are in something extra special, that just isn't when tested.

After that, a little more HP, then maybe a bit of personalised bling.

I like mods for purpose.

They need to be done well, compliment everything else. I hope with my car (thanks Shav!) I am doing that, it certainly works for me and is also a work in progress. I would say Tex has done something very similar with his car.

I'm not one for chrome wheels etc just nice mods, done well. That perform

So why did you say " you don't understand why someone would drop the muffler only for noise".
The penny certainly has dropped alright,
I think you should take your own advice as you are going way of topic it's not funny, you are mentioning 4WD's /speed, and you are not reading what I am saying or it's not sinking in.
I have a full S/S Herrod exhaust thank you very much with a rear resonator as it's a auto, so once again thank you very much for your sad attempt at humouring me.

A custom built car (ie. hot rod or something) is a very different thing to a Blinged up Lancer, Skyline, Commodore or Falcon.

but...the general consensus amongst this thread (and many other similer topics) is that anything modfied for looks, but has no go...is lame or (ugh) "rice"...

Take a look at the 50's style...there is a fair bit of non-performance mods like fake side pipes...own a falcon and put a twin exhaust on anything but a V8 and people think your a tool...

Correct me if im wrong anybody...but any exhaust doesn't make more power (technically), rather, it creates an environment that allows the engine to make power?

I.E

A engine is capable of making X amount of power, and a restictive exhaust is only letting it make Y amount.

The adding of an exahust lets the engine make X amount of power, rather then > X?
