Well at least they are supporting it. It fits in with what they wanted to achieve, and it is being touted as something very special. The 'Four-door Corvette.'

Just wish Falcon was as important to Ford as clearly Commodore is to GM.

How important is it to the buying public?

How important is the SS to the buying public? According to Reuss, they need it for a parallel to the race car. They couldn't give a stuff about the buying public.

As for Falcon. Still the second most popular large sedan in Australia. Unfortunately the segment keeps shrinking. Needs some lovin' export.

Yes, that was an extremely incompetent statement on his part. They don't need it for racing, as evidenced by the Fusion and Camry being legal.

The SS won't bear any more relation to the race car than the Fusion and Camry do.

If they really don't give a stuff about the buying public, no wonder they're going bankrupt. The SS will probably be as big a hit in the US as the Holden-sourced GTO and G8 were.

I don't really care about any of that Vic. Being an American, you can simply be proud that these companies are your nations companies, But only the Falcon, Territory, Commodore, and some boutique low volume sports car companies can we call our own.

And whether it's a success or not isn't important to me, just that they are getting some support and recognition for makes them uniquely Australian.

People should be positive about the Commodore doing well in USA, after all its Australian manufacturing and Australian industry we are talking about, having them go bankrupt will only make it worse for everyone.

Those headlights look nothing like the NASCAR ones. This is just a Malibu with some big rims, and a V8 weirdly placed in the picture.

Well, whether it's a success or not ought to be important to Chevrolet, and they won't be touting it as an Australian car. They will be pretending that it's American, and that it bears some real relationship to the NASCAR version.

This should have a leg up on the GTO (which was at the end of its cycle and stylistically linked to 1997) and the G8 (which although fresh was criticised for blandness) as it seems to have some strong Chevy design links shared with the Cruze and Malibu and is also a bit more daring in its design.

The GTO seemed like a great concept, but when it arrived here, it just looked incredibly bland. Maybe if they had named it something else--hell, they could've just called it Monaro here, too--it would have done better.

GM screwed the first-year buyers over. A lot of them paid a huge premium on top of the sticker price to get the first new GTO in decades. But that car had a 5.7L engine, and the next year people got a 6.0L engine with significantly more power for much less money, and the styling was also more Americanized.

I think the problem with the G8 was just that Pontiac was so damaged by that point that buyers didn't even look at the car. I sat in one and found it too cramped for my tastes, though.

The SS will be promoted much better than either the GTO or G8 was, which should help. Also, Chevy is counting on it to save the brand the way Pontiac was.

Well they did mention leveraging their global portfolio. And the journalists are going to know where it's from.

GM are trying to have the stock car more in common styling-wise, and technical-wise, with what's actually racing. So V8, and RWD... and they're going to tell people this. I think it might get people excited about Chevy, and the ones who can afford it might be very interested.

Maybe 50c is interested in trading in the G8.

They're at least going back to different bodies next year. I haven't followed NASCAR since the '90s. It hasn't been good since the '80s.
