I've got to say I love these Volt ads. Everytime I see one on TV I think I want one*... it's nothing to do with the product - but the implication of the car and Australia being forward looking is inspiring (even though (I think?) the car is fully imported and had no development done here). The background music that sounds like a movie sore is great too. The whole thing kind of reminds me of Apple's Think Different campaign.

Seems to me like they're appealing to high-end buyers by selling it at a high price, marketers actually do this, they feed off the "it's expensive, it must be good" frame of mind.
You watch all the chumps secure their orders and head to the nearest beach town wearing a Holden cap.

And Holden have also said they will lose money on every one they sell, so they aren't profiteering on them. New technology costs money. |

The Prius was originally sold at a loss, but Toyota saw the halo benefits to the rest of the Toyota range - now Toyota is seen as one of the greenest car brands around and in the process become the world's largest automotive producer. |

Only thing i don't like about the Volt is how it looks like a attempt a futurism...
Wouldn't it have been cheaper, easier and possibly better to just keep the Cruze styling?

But then you won't get the hippies buying it because it won't obviously be a hybrid.

If you look around, the engine does charge the battery MOST of the time. GM have admitted however, that under certain circumstances the IC engine WILL engage the driveline and power the vehicle directly.
