It is pretty ****, I don't know how Ford can think this is a good thing

They are blaming supply issues, but if these are made in Thailand then tell them to ramp up supply, pretty simple

And it isn’t because it is an Australian only market. The Ranger is a global market product!so they must be sold in the 100s of thousands,a lot of them in the RHD market.

I reckon it's gone NLA from the manufacturer and Ford Australia hasn't updated the information, so now everyone's steering racks are sitting on back order perpetually with ETAs creeping out month by month.

Curious if they share the same steering rack with the current model Ranger? If so maybe all the stock is being prioritised for the new Ranger production.

We used to do that with Kenworth all the time, their production would be prioritised for stock and PACCAR Parts which is their spare parts network buying the exact same parts got nuts.

My Ranger is now sitting at the local Ford Dealer, it has become undrivable due to the power steering rack becoming completely inoperable, it can be driven but with NO power assist so I insisted it be taken to them. 'Apparently' they have the new steering rack and and now waiting on a sway bar FFS

No choice I tried other dealers and none had them and were in fact waiting on them too

You can't buy aftermarket, so you have no choice but to wait

Not just DTM, no-one had any. It is a Ford Australia issue, not a local dealer issue

Electric are not available aftermarket.

Oh they are there if you search online, seen a few since this topic came up.
What I have seen is that they are remanufactured as one would expect.
Only matter of time these will become more common.
Here is one example from Perth WA........ https://www.steeringlpsr.com/product...er-px-series-3

Trev

Only throwing it out there...

Who are you insured with? You may have already said but I'm not going back through the whole thread.

We had a similar problem to yourself a number of years ago. My EF wagon got damaged and they repaired it. When it was returned one of the axles were bent. There were no genuine ones available so the insurance company and I came to an agreement, they paid that amount and I personally had a mechanic fit a second hand one. I had to sign some sort of waiver to do with the lifetime warranty.

Would your insurance company entertain something like that? Apologies if this has already been covered.

Exactly what I was thinking, just ask them to compensate for the cost and fitment of a rack and use it to source and install a reco unit.
Knowing how hit and miss factory parts can be a reco unit is probably a better result.
And if the insurer wont comply, spend 5 minutes filling out an AFCA complaint citing lengthy delays etc. and they'll be jumping through hoops within 14 days

Hey, don't believe me, no skin off my nose, but I'm certain most in the repair industry will say the same.
If no new parts available, second hand or reconditioned will be substituted, unless vehicle is up to 12months old.

Cheers

Really, the last 10 posts or so are irrelevant as the steering rack is at the dealers, they are waiting for a sway bar
